UFC 119 has scheduled its headliiner and co-main event.

Mir v Big Nog Rematch
Bader v Lil Nog

I'm more interested in the Bader fight.

Yeah, the Bader Lil Nog is a very interesting fight. Bader is very powerful but I'm wondering if he thinks he has become a striker now. I think the fight hinges on whether or not Bader has solid sub defense. He should be able to put Nog down when he wants. I think this is a bad matchup for Nog, he would be better served fighting Shogun or Machida or even Evans.

lame. Just another excuse for having no cardio and gassing out.

Six, I was on Brock big but I have to say I don't think this was an excuse for having no cardio.
If any of you have ever had an adrenaline dump then you know the feeling. There's just nothing there and you feel like your body is just dead but your breathing is fine. I think it happens in sports, especially football, a lot.

I could be wrong but I think it's legit.

i`m with 6`5" on this one...he blew his wad in rd 1 and couldn`t finish...adrenaline dump or just gassing,it`s basically the same result...not enough left in the tank...

for a guy that never gets out of the first round,he didn`t have a plan b for going into rd 2...he wasn`t hurt....he was fine...

imo,he was basically done once the 1st ended....and i think he knew it...

just isn`t built for the long haul(but with those heavy hands,9 times out of 10 he won`t need to be)...that`s what makes lesnar a pretty amazing athlete...

Big John McCarthy will return at UFC Versus 2 in San Diego

When you think of MMA referees, the first one that comes to mind is ?Big? John McCarthy. He?s like a classic McDonalds Big Mac in a sea of Quarter Pounders & Filet-o-Fishes. It?s not that the other referees (metaphorically represented by fast-food sandwiches) aren?t good, but they?ll never be able to compete with the O.G. that has been around since the beginning. Widely recognized as the best referee in MMA, the last time we saw Big John in the Octagon was December 8, 2007 at the Team Serra vs. Team Hughes Ultimate Fighter finale; A card headlined by Roger Huerta and Clay Guida. Since then, McCarthy has refereed for rival organizations Affliction & Strikeforce, even landed a role as the official referee of EA Sports MMA, scheduled to drop later this year. Rather than sit here and speculate what politics kept him from refereeing fights in the UFC, the important thing is that he?ll be back in the octagon on August 1 to referee UFC on Versus 2, headlined by Jon Jones and Vladimir Matyushenko.

Recent arguments over inconsistent scoring and stoppages may or may not be at the forefront of the decision to bring John McCarthy back to action while statements like that are at the forefront of what constitutes solidly mediocre journalism. We really have no idea what's taken this long or why it's finally happening now. Whatever the reason, having John McCarthy back in the UFC is going to be a throwback to the early days and we're glad he's back. Long time UFC fans are sure to rejoice when they hear ?Let?s Get It On!? after all these years. Now if only we could bring back Pride Rules... [Source]

Sign of Dana maturing. Have to believe Big John rubbed Dana the wrong way with a few things he said about the UFC. I hope now Dana could stop telling everyone that will listen, that Herb Dean is the best ref in the world. I got tired of hearing that crap when Dana was only saying it to get under Big Johns skin. I remember a time Herb Dean was flat out awful. Thank goodness he has improved before someone got hurt.

Chael Sonnen's open letter to his fans is ridiculous

The average Chael Sonnen fan doesn't want to read a three-page letter addressed to them. They would much rather have it condensed to a 30-minute special on Fox News with the words 'patriot', 'counterterrorist' and 'Jesus' sporadically placed throughout. With Chael Sonnen proclaiming his Twitter account to be fake (despite plugging it in an interview with Ariel Helwani), we don't really know if this open-letter is genuine. Are we being trolled again or is this just some elaborate psychological experiment to have us secretly change our voter affiliation come November? Well, there's only one way to find out...

?Hi, everybody! Remember me? Your ol? buddy Chael? Y?know I spend most of my time fightin?, which doesn?t leave much time for writin?, but things being what they are, I?ve decided to take a moment or two, and fire up the ol? Olivetti typewriter, put in a fresh ribbon, and share some of my recent thoughts with you?.

Firstly, I?ve gotten a significant amount of feedback regarding my ?correspondence? with MMA?..?Journalist? Jon Lane? So?.To any and all members of the media: I?m always happy to talk and share my time and ideas with you. And I appreciate your efforts in contacting me, and instead of ?circling the wagons? around a ?fellow journalist?, for applauding my efforts to?.FIX things. Do me a favor, guys. Don?t be so hard on JonJon. He?ll get it. Bring him along, help him out here & there. I kinda like him. And Jon?..No hard feelings. Really. If you re-read our correspondence in the cold, hard, light of day, you?ll see I was trying to?.HELP you.

I never expected you to be Umberto Eco; but those questions? guy! I mean COME ON. So buck up, little soldier. If you fall off, just get right back on ? even if it?s only a keyboard you?re getting on.

And Lil? Nog?..I read your appraisal of the upcoming fight betwixt your pal Anderson and yours truly and, I?ll be damned, you are one sharp dude?. about as sharp as a bag of wet mice.

Do yourself a favor: have your mouthpiece permanently installed in your mouth so you can?t speak at all. Have them feed you with a tube like a coma patient. You?re not doing Anderson any good and you?re sinking your own ship too. You say I?m not qualified to fight Anderson?Which means that the UFC brain trust ? that thinks I AM and are also YOUR BOSSES ? are idiots. It also means Ed Soares ? Anderson?s manager and YOUR MANAGER TOO ? doesn?t know what he?s doing, either. Smooth, guy. Very smooth. Do you have any other brilliant ideas or scathing critiques you care to impart to the UFC Brass or your own manager? Maybe that shot Sokodjou hit you with was worse than it looked (if that?s even possible).

You seem like a nice enough guy, and I have no real beef with you (Oh, and speaking of beef: If you can turn your disk over at the Rodizio once in awhile and get down to ?185,? there?s gonna be a new sheriff there in less than a month who?ll be happy to ride you right back out of town on a rail). So please see this as the kind of well-intentioned advice I would give to a friend or training partner. And if you lose a few (you looked like Roy Nelson in a Frankenstein mask for that Brilz fight? which you lost, buddyboy), we can scrap in the Fall.

And Ed, I saw your recent comments. Not bad work. Hats off. You come across as professional and accountable in every respect?which makes your inability to control, explain or denounce Anderson?s behavior quite puzzling to me. THAT?S one of the main reasons we are where we are with all this: because you can?t make him fight.

You can?t explain why he does what he does and you refuse to give a consistent, rational explanation for it. It?s like you keep trying to sell the kids faulty fireworks that turn around after 10 feet and come screaming back and hit them in the eye or blow their hands off.

Are you aware that you represent the generally acknowledged best fighter in the world in the premier promotion on planet Earth and that the president of that company has promised to FIRE HIM for his behavior?

Aren?t you just a little embarrassed by that?

And that?s got NOTHING to do with me, or even this fight.

Imagine: Your team is on the two-yard line in the fourth quarter of the Super Bowl, but your star quarterback disregards the head coach?s instructions and calls a play where he throws the ball to a popcorn vendor in the sixth row, then eats a piece of turf and craps in his helmet on the 50-yard line.

Do you know who he?s REALLY mad at? NOT the fans or the opposing team?he?s mad at daddy; he?s mad at the coach!

WHY?

What causes that encoded hostility?

Is your fighter insane? If he is ? and you therefore cannot reasonably predict his behavior ? isn?t it incumbent upon YOU to find a way to fix it?

Don?t you owe that to the sport?

To the fans?

To his boss, Dana White?

And lastly? don?t you owe a debt to HIM and his long-term psychological well-being? Shouldn?t you get him the help he needs, before one of his irrational, unexplainable acts causes himself or someone else genuine harm? If he?s irrational and uncontrollable, put him in a psych ward. If he?s fine, prove it by giving a legitimate, rational, explanation for his actions in Abu Dhabi. I?m the one who has to fight him.

What?s going on, exactly?

?OK kids??.Chael has to go get all sweaty again.?

I like Herb. I think the only retarded referee the UFC regularly has is Mazagatti. He's a fuck.

wasn`t it herb dean that basically cost nate marquardt his fight with leites resulting in the fans having to sit through the leites/anderson silva snoozefest?....

the guy hands points out like candy...and you just can`t do that in a 3 round fight unless it`s so egregious it`s fight altering....and he said he considered taking 2 points for the knee?...

that would have been 3 points?..why fight?....

2 points in one fight?....horrible...

i think he reffed the last fight we just saw i just can't remember who it was where the one guy was repeatedly holding the fence and it took three minutes for Herb to see it. He finally said something so the guy lets go and as soon as herb turned his head the guy grab it all over again lol. I think it was the Branch/Harris match on Spike before UFC 116. I have no problem with Herb now but about a year, year and a half ago he was awful.

Shinya Aoki's post-fight interview translated

This is your last chance to hop on the Shinya Aoki bandwagon before it leaves your neighborhood. It only comes around once a year so kiss your parents goodbye and don't forget to pack your toothbrush. Look, I even saved a seat for you. Unfortunately the MMA world will never get to see Penn vs. Aoki unless Penn goes on hiatus and fights in every possible weight division in Japan for a few years (hey, it happened before). In the meantime, check out Shinya Aoki's post-fight interview conducted by SportsNavi, translated by GryphonJapan and cleaned up by myself (and the few years I repeated Japanese 101 in college).

Did you plan on using the heel hook before the fight?
No, it was just a flash of inspiration that happened in the ring.

Did you think Kawajiri could escape out of the hold when he started to kick away?
When I grabbed him, I felt that I could finish it.
At some moments in the fight, it seemed like you tried to re-grip Kawajiri
When I caught him and tried to submit him, I heard a loud crackle sound. He did not tap so I thought 'Ok, this match just became a death-fight' and I was going to destroy his leg.:scared :scared
Did you believe you would win when you first grabbed his leg?
I knew Kawajiri never taps so I could not win without breaking his bone. I was hoping for an open-fracture.

Could you feel Kawajiri's 'lionheart' in this fight?
Yes, yes. No one could have endured [that submission] like Kawajiri. His heart is iron.
You did not wear your famous long spats. What was the reasoning behind your decision?
There was no reason and there's no reason to wear long spats in every fight.

You said something to Kawajiri after the fight, what was it?
"I could show you 100% [meaning either he could have fully destroyed his leg or he didn't give the fight his full potential] but I chose not to because I respect you. Thank you for this fight."

At the end of the fight you said you're getting married...
She supported me in April [at Strikeforce Nashville]. After I lost, many people blamed me, but she helped me through it all. The people who mocked me in my fight versus Melendez, I wanted to kill them all. Even in this fight, too many people said 'Kawajiri would win!'. I felt like telling these people 'Go to hell!'. Oh, what was the question? About my marriage...

You defended your title, what will you do in the future?
If Kikuno defeated JZ, then I hoped I would face Kikuno. He lost, so it all depends on Sasahara. I will take part in DEEP in October. It is a memorial event for DEEP
