He was duped. ND knows that or they wouldn't have come out with the press conference.

Really brings into question the value of a Notre Dame education, but there's no way that he knew

They came out with a press conference because they spent money on an investigation.

On the other side as of now, but a long way to in uncovering the facts. Is he a sociopath or a class A tool? I'm leaning the former.....

Right. . . and the investigation leads them to believe that he was duped.

I know you love deadspin, but they've had a long time to make Te'o implicit in this and they have a guy who thinks he's 80% for sure.

:0074 - sounds like you have a solid take on it, guess no need to pay any further attention to the matter.

I know. . but you were there 30 seconds after the story came out.

It's just so hard to believe an all American linebacker would be stuck on a chick he never met. If there was an imposter chick who met him in Hawaii, then he starts to look like a fool instead of a psycho.

Maybe he's got a 3" dick, maybe he gets scared around girls. And he probably embellished some stuff to hide the fact that he only knew his tragicly lost girlfriend online, but I don't think he thought the story was a lie. . . . and I don't think the reporters do either.

Yea. I have a general rule that I would argue the world is flat with you but I concur...No way he knew. The dude didn't want to tell anyone he only knew the girl online, as most guys wouldn't...and he let the story get way out of control! It was stupidity on his part to keep the story going but I can see his embarassment being a popular sports figure and telling everyone you met your GF online. I'm actually starting to feel sorry for the dude. This has to be the most embarassing thing that has ever happened to a public figure.

I'm not saying he's completely innocent here, he kept the story going but I think he probably realized alot earlier on than what is being reported what had happened and then he just hoped it would all go away. That would be a very shameful thing to come clean about.

I think people have a false sense of these guys going out and getting any chick they want out of the bar every night of the week. In some instances that may be the case but believe it or not all of these guys don't want that for various reasons(no confidence, self esteem..etc.). I mean that shit would get old after a while I guess. I wish I could tell you from experience though...:142smilie

Yeah he definitely kept the story going, for over a year.

What do you do though? Tell everybody "I got played, I told all of these lies because I didn't want everybody to know my girlfriend was a mere online entity and now I'm coming clean"

I don't know what happened but that is not out of the realm of possibilities in my mind. I'm not gonna hang the dude yet.

A year? I thought she supposedly died this season. I don't know the whole story but if she died over a year ago and he kept it going that long then that does change my mind.

The purported death was this year, Sept. 2012. The story states that the first known contact was in Oct. 2011 between Te'o and the fake via Twitter.

Te'o and the alleged guy behind the fake girlfriend's account are connected as early as May 2012.

:mj07:

He said he talked to her on the phone every night.

I can not wait for him to confess to Oprah how he made the whole thing up.

I would not take this kid in the draft.

I don't think there's enough information out there quite yet....but I do think it will get out.

What's more likely? The fact that he was duped or the fact that he made it up? The most likely is the latter unfortunately. Look...regarding the ADs reaction....if he was able to dupe millions of people then of course he could dupe his own program. There are just way too many inconsistencies, it just makes it seem like he made it all up. But I think as information comes out, the answer will be there.

Look, Penn St denied it, Lance Armstrong denied it to the the death...and look where we end up. He said he sent flowers to her funeral home....that they closed the casket at 9am- Just not likely that he was duped to that degree IMO.
