that's the impression i got from reading the article, reading teo statement and listening to the press conference

not sure why it's so hard to believe he got duped.....a "funny" prank by a buddy that went way too far.

and sounds like this buddy pulled same prank on at least one other person.

only "discrepencies" in that theory (both from oct south bend article that has been removed since last night) would be father quoted as saying girlfriend flew to hawaii and they met her and how teo and her met after the stanford game 3 years ago and exchanged glances and numbers.

is it that hard to beleive that a reporter either got those 2 parts of his article fucked up ("misquoted") OR reporter completely made those quotes up (ala plenty of other "reporters" on other subjects...ie new york times reporters and dan rather, etc).

There has to be a girl who was in on it too.

The girl who's picture was used has denied involvement.

I take it he's smart enough to discern b/w a dude and a girl on the phone.

He has said that he spent hours talking to her at night. So, either 1. the girl comes forward or 2. They've got the phone records to prove it.

If not, total fabrication. Which, is the most plausible explanation.

The girl claimed to be a Stanford student. Mateo was a student at ND....

Does anyone know a college student that doesn't have a laptop, or at least an ipad?

If you are in love with someone and talking all the time, wouldn't you be doing a video chat via Facetime or Skype? Hell, even old grandma's are doing it today......why ALWAYS use a phone?

Everything has been a lie, in my opinion.

I don't think ND would defend him if they knew he was lying. These guys aren't dumb asses when it comes to PR, they would know to treat this situation like the plague if they had any doubts in Teo. If they didn't believe him they wouldn't have even made a statement on the situation and put it all on him, instead they have stuck the entire Universities neck out ther. That's why I seem to think the dumb ass really was duped.

Several teammates are saying that they knew that she was not his girlfriend. The school looks pretty damn stupid in this as well.
