I just confirmed that Michigan has asked for and received permission to talk to Ferentz. To me that states that this may be a done deal. However, I also know that Gary Barta, Iowa's AD, is doing everythin in his power to keep Ferentz.

Ferentz would never go to Michigan. It's kind of a catch 22, Michigan looking for a coach with class, but Ferentz has too much class to go to a Big 10 rival.

Gonna be great to see how many mid-level coaches start pre-emptively turning down the Michigan job.

Everything I've said is only my opinion. I wouldn't be surprised if Ferentz has already been offerred the job, but I just can't see him taking it.

At this point, I will be surprised if it is not Ferentz up there. We will know within 48 hours.

There is a very good chance Ferentz could be the guy. Many former players are lining up in support of Miles but Carr seems to have scuttled his ship.

i just got word he accepted it, will be ratified in 24-48 hours,

OUTSTANDING!

Sure will be fun beating Michigan every year that Ferentz is the coach there--which should only be 3 times since Iowa doesn't play Michigan again until 2009, and Ferentz should and will get fired no more than 4 years into his stay at UM.....:mj07:

Kind of comical, considering you are bashing a guy that is the only coach ever to win a January 1st bowl game at your school.

BTW I am told this is far from a done deal and Ferentz will likely not accept the job.

This is not happening.....i may not have the sources that CWood does, but this is not happening.

The school asked for and received permission to talk to Ferentz.....thats a stipulation of his contract w/ Iowa.....that is as far as this has got so far......UM was going to be paying Carr's replacement more than they paid Carr, but KF already gets $3 mill a year....no way UM is breaking open the bank this early in the process for KF.

The stuff about him already accepting to job is pot stirring fodder started on iowa fan message boards and it has taken a life of its own. I think this has a lot to do with coaching diplomacy and subterfuge as well.....KF might be a candidate for Nebraska, and UM wants to get an interview in fast before he is snatched up to see if they want him.

I just cant believe that in the span of one week, UM says they have a list of 30 candidates down to one lock certain guy.

Like I said, more of a hunch and common sense on my part......i have zero sources on this.

CWood......how do you feel about KF being the guy at UM?

almost as comical as posting rumors on a internet posting board.
Wow, so Ferentz took a team loaded with future NFLers and won a new Years Day bowl game....:jerkit:

Iowa is 12-13 the last 2 seasons and they are staring hard at a 4-8 year next season. The program is going backwards, and for almost 3 mil a year that shouldn't be acceptable. If he takes the Michigan job, Iowa is out from under his huge contract and his two worthless coordinators are gone, too.
I'll take that scenario and wish Ferentz good luck at Michigan.

i like ferentz & think it's a good hire...

I do as well but he hasn't been hired, offered or even formally contacted yet.

Mgoblog has blown this thing way out of proportion.

I do hear Les Miles goose is practically cooked.

CWood....I agree.....the posters on the comment board are in near revolt, as well......like ferentz is Gerry Faust or something.....its a total meltdown over there.

Otherwise, I am a fan of the blog.

What I am hearing now is that the list is down to four. Ferentz, Miles, Pinkel and Schiano. I am still hearing that Ferentz is the front runner but Schiano may be a dark horse. I am also hearing that there is little support with the powers that be for Miles. My guess is in this order Ferentz, Schiano, Pinkel and Miles. I guess we'll see.

It now appears that Miles never was out of it after all.

It really sounds like a two horse race at this point. Former players and big donors are backing Miles. Carr and some of the current staff are backing Ferentz. Carr and Miles are old enemies so this is no surprise. Backup candidates are Schiano, Pinkel and English. This list could grow, obviously. Apparently there is a personal issue that would not allow Kelly to leave Cincy just yet.

I expect this will all be wrapped up in the next 7-10 days as everyone's "season" will be complete. Martin will not wait to talk with Miles.

IMO it will be Miles so long as he can convince Martin (the AD) he's a changed man (was pretty wild during his last stint in A2) and that the recruiting mud Carr is flinging at him is unfounded.
