The Card Counter
is a 2021 American crime drama film written and directed by Paul Schrader. It stars Oscar Isaac, Tiffany Haddish, Tye Sheridan, and Willem Dafoe. Martin Scorsese serves as an executive producer.

It had its world premiere at the 78th Venice International Film Festival on September 2, 2021.[4] It was released on September 10, 2021 by Focus Features.

William Tell is a gambler who taught himself how to count cards during an eight-year stint in military prison. Seeking to avoid attention ? either fame or casino bouncers ? Tell's gambling philosophy is to bet small and win modestly. Despite gambling nearly every day, he never stays in a casino hotel. He lives out of two small suitcases and stays in motels, where he removes any decor and covers all the furniture in plain sheets secured with twine.

I'll check it out.

Flight
is a 2012 American drama film directed by Robert Zemeckis, written by John Gatins and produced by Walter F. Parkes, Laurie MacDonald, Steve Starkey, Zemeckis and Jack Rapke. It stars Denzel Washington as William "Whip" Whitaker Sr., an alcoholic airline pilot who miraculously crash-lands his plane after a mechanical failure, saving nearly everyone on board. Immediately following the crash, he is hailed a hero but an investigation soon leads to questions that put the captain in a different light. The film is loosely inspired by the plane crash of Alaska Airlines Flight 261.

Principal photography began in October 2011 near Atlanta, Georgia and lasted over 45 days. It was largely shot on location, with visual effects and computer-generated imagery used to create the plane crash.

It received generally positive reviews from critics, with praise going to Zemeckis' direction and Washington's performance, Gatins' screenplay and themes. It was also a commercial success, grossing US$161.8 million against its US$31 million production budget. Flight was the first live-action film directed by Zemeckis since Cast Away and What Lies Beneath in 2000, and his first R-rated film since Used Cars in 1980.

The film appeared on multiple critics' year-end top ten lists and received multiple accolades and nominations from various organizations, including two nominations for Best Actor (Washington) and Best Original Screenplay (Gatins) at the 85th Academy Awards.

10 out of 10.

Incredible movie!!!!!

Dune was certainly better than the original Dune movie which was straight trash, but it was maybe a 6/10. I would say you are spot on about reading the book beforehand would make it a better watch. I would have passed if I had known there was going to be a second part.

Batman: The Dark Knight Returns Parts 1 & 2

These are video animated comic book adaptations. imo comic books were better and story lines, specially in 2, really get carried away from "DC-universe movies". Intersting approaches but doesn't carry completely.

Fight club... this gets regular rewatch every year or so. Movies like this tells you how much current films suck ass.

suddenly there are tens of films on my list to watch after HBO became HBO+ and started Disney+ because of Loki and Mandalorian.

btw Netflix published The Witchers 2nd season. Might need to watch that too. Liked 1st season a lot.

Started watching Jackson's Beatles document "Get Back". I don't know, i just never liked Beatles and this isn't interesting like some Stones documentaries (Gimme Shelter, Cock sucker blues, Sympathy for The Devil and so on).
