Okay, a quick one. I'll post more and answer questions when I get home. Yes, I miss the US already. I doubt I could live here 365 days a year. More like twice a year 2 months at a time. It depends on the individual because I have met many that love living here. Just not sure if it's for me yet.

For me to keep my same standard of living, it's more expensive than the US. The food that I like back home is more expensive here and the selection sucks, electronics are more expensive here, beer is more expensive here, cars are more expensive here, damn near everything is more expensive here.

TV sucks too but I have Comcast Xfinity or whatever it's called so I can stream that to my computer and HDMI that to the TV so no change there.

Language barrier is a huge negative. It's probably not so bad near the big cities, San Jose, Escazu, etc. but here in Atenas is hard not being about to speak the language. That can be overcome though....by learning.

Fucking mosquitoes have eaten me alive, I almost look like I have the measles. Geckos are noisy and shit all over the place. Mice size turds that have to be swept out daily and about every 3rd day mopped.

The weather here is the best. I think it hit 80 once or twice during the day and it's always in the 60's at night. I have slept better here than I have in the last 20 years. I get 8 to 9 hours every night and feel great during the day because of that. At home I get about 5 hours a night for whatever reason.

I haven't explored the country much because I'm mostly working on a project here that takes most of my time.

Pizza here is great. Screw the chains, I'll never eat from them again.

We have been getting about a 15 minute thunderstorm daily for the last week and they are pretty damn severe. next month they say is the big rainy season and should be getting storms that last most of the day.

Internet sucks here. My speed test shows download 8 and upload 1, back home my download hits the 90's.

That's it for now. It doesn't sound too positive but I'm just focusing on the negatives. Once I get around and know where to go for things it'll be a lot better.

Of course it's preference....We still like our home so we would never live in another country for more than 3 weeks....Maybe do 2-3 weeks in 1 place, then come home for a few months & then another 2-3 weeks in another country....& repeat....

Think you may be able to tolerate it a little more....

I like that idea only using 2 or 3 months at a time from place to place to place. My wife isn't as adventurous as I am so who knows. Plus, for a few more years we still have dogs to take care of. I'm not going to stress my dogs by moving them all around the world like that. Man, I really miss them and it's only been 3 weeks. I was talking to them on the phone last night.

Puerto Rico Jackson !!!! Best place i have ever found that is almost like the states but has the perfect weather. Friendliest people on the planet. Ya cd be my neighbor. every winter. Plus free winners for life.. LOL!! Internet great ... Direct TV. Prime Beef is rare THEY CLOSED THE BUTCHER SHOP INJ SAN JUAN THAT HAD IT. Pizza sucks. I Greek place 1 German place But i can live with most for 3 4 months
knowing i go back to the states. The ethnic food corridor between Milwaukee and Chicago i think is unmatched in the US. That was my biggest gripe about Las Vegas. And no F&*king beaches in Vegas.. GAG!! Try the CR west coast for a few days see if you like that. I know u said u are not a beach person. How can you not be ???

I've read too many negatives about PR and the beach is too hot for me. I can't stand being hot. I don't swim and sitting on a beach sweating and having sand stuck to me all over just doesn't appeal to me at all.

Any negatives ask me..this will be my 6th year..... 3 4 months each time so year and a half plus or so fer me.....Ya don't have ta go ta the beach if ya don't like. I just love being on the ocean in the morning before i starts my day. Dif strokes. !! By the way every one under 30 speaks English fluently. Ya have to go into the mountains ta find folks with broken English. I have never met any one that did not speak a word. Ya have biz in CR so thats a factor. I wd sug Belize and Panama before you make a decision. Does not sound like you ever were a Euro phile... Asia not for me. No casinos !!! No craps daily !!! Lunch and some craps $$ await. ! Later.

You just have to get used to how things are done here.

Yep, and I think I will. I'm definitely not giving up. I think having a car will make things a lot better for me, so I can go explore things on my own. My landlord has a SUV she'll rent to me for $550 a month but I'm going to see if I can get it for $400. It includes insurance so maybe worth getting if I can get the price lowered. Rental car companies will not budge on the insurance that costs about $30 a day even though my credit card covers me. They don't want to hear it. I may have one that will let me deny liability but they want a $3000 deposit that I am not comfortable with at all.

Your USA Insurance will cover you in PR. Have had 2 fender benders. However the incident report was changed to claiming i ran a red light when there ws no red light to run . The guy cut me off on an off ramp. Did not find out till my ins co sent an investigator down there. Live and learn. Guy was a fuckin priest too.

FYI- You can get by here in the Jaco area without knowing Spanish. Most people here know a decent amount of English.

are you going to move there and help your buddy Will..

Very unlikely. I'm starting to like where I'm at but I doubt the wife would do this. See what happens.
