Did anyone else find the timing of this really, really bad? Oh, the two teams in the Big Ten we thought had a chance to make the playoff got beat! What can we do? Let's accept the Get out of Jail Nearly Free Card from Penn State. Maybe they'll get lucky and salvage the conference's hopes! I am not saying this is how it went down, but the timing makes a lot of people think that it did.

Poon I apologize for some of the comments I made towards you last night. I know you and I never agreed on much here but looking back I think I was out of line with some things I said.
Bobby is still an asshole though...

I think Hashish has a valid point. When analyzing the decision making process, the primary question is who benefits?

My answer:
the NCAA and the Big Ten. had the Big 10 not IMPLODED this wouldn't have been pushed through and announced. if retaining or re acquiring a revenue stream (Penn State fan base) negates attrition (other Big 10 teams who lost last week) to level set a loss and those actions are implemented to mitigate potential revenue loss then just say it.

The fact of the matter is this was a business decision by NCAA and Big Ten conference to mitigate further revenue loss..

The X factor.

The wheels of the NCAA are about the slowest moving ones around, you think after one bad weekend by a shitty conference that really wasn't going to compete in the playoff anyway they got this pushed through? :bsflag

It has been rumored since the summer that this was coming down the pipes.

PaSprint - hope you have a great day!

I do think that projected revenue for Big 10 and the current state of Big 10 strength were a factor in the meeting to sign off on moving forward.

However you wouldn't see it in the meeting minutes.

As you state the NCAA is slow moving why wait until after week 1? This is signed off by multiple layers prior to communication to public.

Bullshit! He notified the university of the wrongdoing. They (the university police) swept it under the rug. No one in the place wanted it public. Post facts of it otherwise or STFU.

So I was thinking, isn?t it about time the statue of the great coach Paterno gets put back up in Happy Valley? Oh wait??what?..

Yikes??.nevermind.

That man's legacy is bigger than any impact you will ever have on this earth.... remember that Poon. Bigger than anyone on this site. Go ahead and dwell on the negative that has tarnished his life. He was a bigger man than you will ever or will ever dream to be.

Expected response... no facts. Its completely your opinion though and I honor that. You have no idea the impact that Paterno had on Penn State University since the 1960s. Whatever Jerry did he did. I'm not saying it was wrong (it certainly wasn't) But Penn State should not go down for the wrong doing of one man. You can slice it any way you want it. No one will change my opinion. You didn't have to provide any commentary or opinion on the penalties. I know where you were headed with it.

You are right, I had no idea he had been covering it up since the 70?s. I was guessing this was only a 20 year issue or so.

This whole thing makes me sick!!

I was a very big Paterno fan.

I always thought that he ran his program the correct way.

The fact that he & other people at the university knew for years what this animal was doing & did nothing is very sickening to me.

Feel very bad for these poor kids!!

Looking forward to PA's rebuttal, but will have to wait until he strolls into the office mid-morning
