I went the other way...just a hunch the big fella plays tight. On talent alone though this SHOULD be easy for Anderson.

He pulled through. Thought it would be a little easier. He even covered the games, in keeping with the strategy so hard to follow, betting favs -games rather than ML. I actually thought Devv would cover the games or push, but was pretty sure Anderson would win in his home country.

I think Phau wins straight up. Hewitt seems to get up for the big matches these days and falters to the "nobodys"

I got crushed with Davy this morning..should have know Llodra's hard court game is too much right now.

Yeah, i'm tempted to go on that ml, i just fear phau will win the first set then fade mid-second. but that payoff is very tempting.

I got crushed with Davy this morning..should have know Llodra's hard court game is too much right now.

glad i forgot that one, probably would have been on davyd. just never know with that guy.

crappy effort out of kuznetsov, thought he would come a lot closer. just error after error.

I'm tempted by this one Clezar +600 vs Souza -1000??

Why is a guy ranked in the 100's -1000 vs anyone? I'll take a shot with the young dog +600 that nobody has seen.

Pick: Smyczek +4 (Nishikori) +115, risking 2000 to win 2300 :0074

POST-analysis: kicking myself for not doing ml on this one: classic example of why dogs should be taken on ml: for almost the same risk, 4x the return

there is some nice lines I'm looking at for early morning into tomorrow.

Ivanovic should mince Vinci, probably parlay her with Zvonereva

And I jumped on Troicki at even, now at -110. He is on a different level than Cilic this year.

probably on troi myself. others sound like winners too, altho real careful with ivanovic. i think i aged three years on monfils, cant stand how he plays. watch the match, i honestly cant determine whether he's just lazy, scatterbrained, bored, loses concentration or is just messing the with the crowd and opponent for his private amusement.

what do you think about berdych? id probably take him but dont like how he played last match. he still seems weak psychologically. was lucky to escape on him last match.

come to look at it, i like the under better on the troi match, surely one of them will break. 23 is a tough number to get over.

like bags and troi; really want to see if youzh can do anything with soderling.

(all Friday 2/11/11 picks in this post)

(ledger: -30,532)

Pick: Errani-Voskoboeva 20 under -112, risking 2240 to win 2000 :sadwave:

Pick: Zvonareva-Peng 20' under -135, risking 1350 to win 1000 :sadwave:

Pick: Baghdatis -3' (Ljubicic) -105, risking 2100 to win 2000 :sadwave:

Pick: Kvitova +117 (Wickmayer), risking 2000 to win 2340 :0074

Pick: Petkovic -190 (Mattek), risking 3800 to win 2000 :sadwave:

POST-analysis: very tough loss. shows the extreme caution must be taken backing anyone on very short turnaround with any kind of health problem, no matter how seemingly small. too easy to go by the name, but nadal and nadal with breathing problems are both called and priced as "nadal," but they're not the same thing. same with petkovic and "petkovic + quick turnaround + sore legs." Under average conditions i think petkovic would win, but not quite here.

Pick: Kanepi -155 (Cibulkova), risking 3100 to win 2000 :0074

Pick: Troicki +105 (Cilic), risking 2000 to win 2050 :0074

Pick: Troicki-Cilic 23 under -105, risking 2100 to win 2000 :0074

Pick: Raonic -180 (Berankis), risking 3600 to win 2000 :0074

NOTE: i again think raonic over (berankis) is the strongest play on the day

POST-analysis: again, fairly easy vic for the big server; but there are indications against someone who can get his serve back he'll have problems. under no pressure today thanks to serve, but his ground strokes were sprayed, and against better player he will have to do better

Pick: Dolgopolov -235 (Mello), risking 2350 to win 1000 :0074

why: normally would say wiser to take fav -3 here, but mello has been hot, could see the 3 pushing or losing if mello takes a set, but in the end i think dolgo wins, 235 not too bad

POST-analysis: this kid has really become good, someone have to think long and hard before going against

Pick: Monfils -825 (Smyczek), risking 1650 to win 200 :0074

why: just a dumb bet, for fun fri nite and to remind why not to make dumb bets. hopefully get a scare like a horror movie but walk out ok. this bet is the equivalent of hopping between freeway cars to grab a wind-blown dollar. most likely it cashes, but as we saw earlier today with petkovic, the short turnaround can be a problem. monfils outclasses the 'czek, but he's an injury-prone clown too, and that unjustifies the huge price. still, i think you will agree that dumb bets are just as fun as smart ones, especially if you dont lose. this said, restate that i expect to win every bet i make, i dont post stuff i dont believe in; if it's dumb, like this one, or an angry chase, i will always post that

Pick: Del Potro -2 (Hewitt) -128, risking 2560 to win 2000 :0074

why: better, younger player at very reasonable price. if he wins, he'll almost surely at least push, so can cut a good 40c off the price by taking the games, which all evidence indicates is the right way to play favs. del Po's serve is so strong that even if he yields a set, it's highly unlikely he gets less than four games, which makes the games choice more enticing against the ml. 2 or 2' always look easy for fav but they can be dangerous where you have a player known to relax. this happens more among women. they win a hard-fought first set, kick back in the second, then come back in the third. that's the kind of bet where the dog cashes the seemingly small 2 or 2' games. for example: 46 63 57. dog +2 cashes as games are -1 to fav, even tho dog lost 2 of 3 sets.

Pick: del Potro-Hewitt 23 under -113, 2260 to win 2000 :0074

Pick: Istomin +4 (Verdasco) -103, risking 3090 to win 3000 PUSH

Pick: Istomin +329 (Verdasco), risking 2000 to win 6580 :sadwave:

why: legitimate chance to win at a very nice return

POST-analysis: verdasco is damn good, isto played quite well but not enough

(all Saturday 2/12/11 picks in this post)

(ledger: -26,432)

Pick: Errani-Vinci 21 under +100, risking 1000 to win 1000 :0074

Pick: Zvonareva-Hantuchova 19' under -110, risking 1100 to win 1000 :sadwave:

Pick: Kanepi +6 (Clijsters) -135, risking 2700 to win 2000 :sadwave:

Pick: Ohio State-Wisconsin 125' under -105, risking 2100 to win 2000 :sadwave:

Pick: Baylor-Texas 132 under -105 risking 1050 to win 1000 :0074

Pick: LIVE: Almagro -335 (Dolgopolov), risking 3350 to win 1000 (63) :0074

Pick: Detroit-Butler 148 under -110, risking 2200 to win 2000 :0074

Pick: Pittsburgh-Villanova 138' under -105, risking 2100 to win 2000 :0074

Pick: Verdasco +150 (del Potro), risking 1000 to win 1500 :0074

why: no idea who wins this, so i'll take odds on. verdasco is incredibly tough to beat. del Potro can do it with his serve, but verdasco certainly has more than a 40% chance of winning this match.

(all Sunday 2/13/11 picks in this post)

(ledger: -23,832)

Pick: Hantuchova -245 (Errani), risking 2450 to win 1000 :0074

why: like the old Gerry Cooney, young miss Toucan is going to wrap Errani in a Handtuch of Horrah!

OPINION: Cooney's "i'm gonna wrap him in a cocoon of horror!" deserves a spot on the top ten sports quotes of all time.

POST-analysis: easy winner but a dumb bet. the correct bet was the -4. could tell a few strokes in this would be a blowout. Hantuch is skinny as they come but is absolutely whistling her groundstrokes like the women of heft.

Pick: Kvitova +5 (Clijsters) -130, risking 1300 to win 1000 :0074

Pick: Kvitova +365 (Clijsters), risking 500 to win 1825 :0074

why: betting against clijsters is the definition of 'give me half your money and we'll go out back and i'll kick you in the nuts and we'll call it a day.' missed on kanepi by a game yesterday, the same will probably happen here, clij puts a 6 on a 5. still, kvit has been playing well, and i dont mind risking an amount to see if she can pull a double 4 or even an upset.

Pick: Soderling -245 (Tsonga), risking 2450 to win 1000 :0074

Pick: LIVE: Lakers-Orlando 191' under, risking 2200 to win 2000 (21-24 2q start) :0074

Pick: Verdasco-Raonic 23 under -120, risking 3600 to win 3000 :sadwave:

Pick: Verdasco -235 (Raonic), risking 2350 to win 1000 :sadwave:

Pick: Verdasco -3 (Raonic) -125, risking 2500 to win 2000 :sadwave:

why: now is the time to get off Raonic. he has flaws in his game inferior opponents have not been able to reveal, but Verdasco will - namely the UE on the groundstrokes. This will be a learning lesson for the kid, as the master shows him a great serve aint enough. And don't forget, Verdasco himself won this tournament last year and had held his serve like 35x in a row until del Potro broke it last night. This match should be very much in the pattern of the del Potro match but actually be easier for Verdasco, as Raonic can't rally with Verd nearly as well as del Potro, who is still coming back from injury. I'm surprised the number -235 is as low as it is; should be about -400, probably will be by match time

NOTE: bizarre thing: verdasco and raonic, after today's final, will immediately play again in the first round in Memphis

POST-analysis: real gut punch, as verdasco up 6-2 in first set tiebreak inexplicably loses 6 points in a row. credit to raonic, who upped his stroke consistency and kept his serve rock solid

Pick: LIVE: Oklahoma City-Golden State 205 over -110, risking 2200 to win 2000 (20-23 2q start) :sadwave:

Sorry about your Verdasco loss.......

yeah, me too!

well, at least you cashed big! i thought that line should have been at least 400, and climbed from there, but raonic showed that wrong. even so, verdasco had him, i cant account for that bizarre tiebreak.

.and yep....crazy they play again 1st round in Memphis....depth in men's tennis is sick.

the players are amazingly good, tv doesn't really do it justice, whenever they get up close you see just how increndible the shots are, and what you have to do just to win a single point

(ledger: -32,190)

Pick: Meusberger +118 (Panova), risking 1000 to win 1180 :0074

Pick: Kamke -120 (Schoorel), risking 3600 to win 3000 :0074

Pick: Almagro -6 (Galdon) -112, risking 1120 to win 1000 :0074

Pick: Ramos-Vinolas -2 (Souza) -120, risking 1200 to win 1000 :0074

Pick: Schnyder +5 (Ivanovic) -128, risking 1280 to win 1000 :0074

Pick: Goerges -820 (Sanchez), risking 3280 to win 400 :0074

POST-analysis: got away with one here, but fundamental insight was right - that Goerges is a mental champ. she switched surfaces to clay, only reason i can see she would play this tournament rather than dubai or memphis. she really struggled, but found a way to win. this was not a wise pick at the price. it could have been foreseen that goerges would struggle, and 8:1 is utterly unjustifiable. sanchez is not actually a no-name, she won multiple ITF events last year. very, very satisfying non-loss, this was.

Pick: Amanmuradova +145 (Mirza), risking 1000 to win 1450 :sadwave:

Pick: Tsonga-Paire 20 under -120, risking 1200 to win 1000 :0074

Pick: Wawrinka -525 (Berlocq), risking 2625 to win 500 :0074

Pick: 4parlay:
Llodra-Benneteau 22 under -109 l
Tsonga -900 (Paire) w
Cilic -710 (Bohli) w
Roddick -650 (Berankis)
risking 1200 to win 2165
:sadwave:

Pick: Dabul-Przysiezny 23 under -128, risking 1280 to win 1000 :0074

Pick: 3parlay:
Karlovic -190 (Russell) l
Dolgopolov -460 (Acasuso) l
Nalbandian -300 (Starace) w
risking 2000 to win 2955
:sadwave:

POST-analsysis: dumb, dumb, dumb. I knew kvic was too weak a reed, just thought he could blow away russell with serve. better to play that under, and bet one of the two would break, and parlay nalb and dolg, who are 100x more reliable than karlovic. ... dolg suffering letdown after final last tournament, another thing i was a little afraid of.

Pick: LIVE: Mississippi State-Kentucky 152' under -110, risking 2200 to win 2000 (31-28 1h 5m) :sadwave:

Pick: Roddick -615 (Berankis), risking 2460 to win 400 :0074

Pick: Roddick -4' (Berankis) -118, risking 1180 to win 1000 :0074

why: dont like roddick, but berankis makes too many UE. should be the kind of opponent roddick eats up before failing in later rounds. normally i would never make such a play on roddick, but i feel i have a read on berankis after last tournament. the right play is roddick -4', but there's a chance he gets nipped by half a game.

POST-analysis: 'DICK! 'DICK! 'DICK! For one day, i am a fan of the 'dick. Sure thought he was going to blow it, had already turned red in the face and prepared a lengthy string of suitable imprecations. But the 'dick pulled through, as he intermittently does...in the early rounds...of minor tournaments. (Again we see that, as i stated pre-match, the fav -games is the better way to go. Like most people, i find it easier to dispense good advice than follow it.)

Pick: Istomin +160 (Querrey), risking 1000 to win 1600 :sadwave:

Pick: Istomin +2' (Querrey) +105, risking 1000 to win 1050 :0074

why: i like istomin, he's won for me many times. Querrey has shown nothing in 2011 yet. maybe he starts here, but i'll pay to see it. i dont see any real reason isto doesn't win this, or if not, win a set and cover the games.

(all Wednesday 2/16/11 picks in this post)

(ledger: -27,060)

Pick: Vinci +505 (Zvonareva), risking 1000 to win 5050 :sadwave:

why: price too good to pass up. worth a shot.

Pick: Peer -560 (Dulgheru), risking 2400 to win 400 :0074

Pick: Sevastova +4' (A. Radwanska) +105, risking 1000 to win 1050 :0074

Pick: Gulbis -3 (Petzschner) +103, risking 1000 to win 1030 :sadwave:

why: this frizzy-haired sob is on my shit list after his meltdown against simon, but i'll give him another chance here against mediocre petzschner

Pick: Golubev +200 (Ljubicic), risking 1000 to win 2000 :sadwave:

Pick: Golubev +4 (Ljubicic) -143, risking 1430 to win 1000 :sadwave:

why: feeling upset here, looks like others are too, as the line has moved down. golubev needs to kick off a
good season, and the old man may be tired

Pick: Clement-Roger-Vasselin 23 under -128, risking 1280 to win 1000 :0074

Pick: Davydenko-Simon 23 under -125, risking 2500 to win 2000 PUSH

Pick: Seppi +185 (Melzer), risking 1000 to win 1850 :sadwave:

Pick: Fichman-Castano 21 under -130, risking 1300 to win 1000 :sadwave:

POST-analysis: fichman can't close it out up 52, goes into third set and kills it.

Pick: Rodina +4' (Oudin) +105, risking 1000 to win 1050 :0074

ANALYSIS: this girl, Oudin, had a great run as a tot, like 16, at one of the majors, and the line has basically been shaded in her favor ever since. there's no way she should be a 3:1 favorite over anybody, yet. if you bet against her on the ml, she'll lose by the third match at the latest.

POSt-analysis: should have taken this on the ML too, just that rodina is not that good, figured it would be wasted as oudin pulled through in end, but oudin didn't come close.

Pick: LIVE: Louisville-Cincinnati 130' under -110, risking 2200 to win 2000 (10-18 1h 10m) :0074

Pick: Verdasco -200 (Raonic), risking 4000 to win 2000 :sadwave:

POST-analysis: i'll take this as proof raonic is clutch. ouch.

Pick: 5parlay:
Wawrinka -480 (Hanescu) w
del Potro -155 (Isner)
Verdasco -205 (Raonic) l
Stosur -485 (Schnyder)
Schiavone +105 (Kuznetsova)
risking 1600 to win 10,101
:sadwave:

Pick: LIVE: Denver-Milwaukee 192' under -110, risking 2200 to win 2000 (27-16 2q start) :0074

Pick: del Potro-Isner 24 under +135, risking 2000 to win 2700 :0074
