I'd take Paul over all of 'em, but these are some '12 contenders:

Huckabee
Romney
Pawlenty
Thune
Barbour

Palin(resignation) and Sanford (kooky behavior) blew their opportunities imo. As for Jindal, I'd say no way. He has shown his inexperience leading LA. Also, he preached transparency, but since he took office has not followed through.

I dont know why you guys think Palin has blown it. This is pretty typical. She will be running in 12'.

I don't know how Romney doesn't get the nomination. Plus the GOP normally gives it to the next guy in line. Romney is next.

Its a long time out though. Anything can happen.

Huckabee needs to quit telling jokes if he wants a shot in 12'.

I really like Barbour, he would be a GREAT President.

only person with less experience and quailfications was Gumby-- as believe gov or mayor of large city will trump junior senator by most standards.

Yeah, mayor of a large town of 5400 people (in Alaska, no less) is a real qualification, isn't it? For crying out loud - the mayor of MY town would be more qualified than that analogy, and I live here BECAUSE it's small.

Do you expect to get this stuff through everyone, or do you just hope it gets through?

I could MAYBE see her spending the next two years trying to learn about EVERYTHING in the world and MAYBE being a vice-presidential running mate because evidently some conservatives like the way she looks and talks. I'd have to say Gov. Pawlenty from MN is looking pretty strong now - he's recently held the line against the democratic majority here, and the budget, and is working his magic in cutting funding for all kinds of things and taking money from profitable entities and giving it to red ink entities - all to make himself look good in the coming years to national eyes.

I'll bet you right now Pawlenty is a finalist for the title, but not sure he's tough enough of a debater to get it done. He's decent looking, and with Palin, could be an attractive, assumed conservative duo.

But, of course, she's an idiot, so that could continue to be a problem for her and the party...:142smilie

4th? Could I ask who the first three might be?

I heard the the other night- It was Romney-Huckabee -a 3rd I can't recall and Palin.
Of course that was just the opinion of panel--so prob not a lot of merit there.

IMO I don't think this is about run for president--I believe its financial. Your looking at current $125,000 a year--a book deal is inevitable--and what about speaking circuit--Bill proved the more controversial the more lucrative the pay.

If she stays she has the $125,000 coming in and much more going out in legal fees as The Haskell vultures collect both ways regardless if any guilt and no consequences on fraudulant accusers part.

"All but two of the 15 complaints have been dismissed with no findings of wrongdoing, although one complaint led to Palin's agreement to reimburse the state about $8,100 for costs associated with trips taken with her children. The state says it has spent nearly $300,000 to investigate the complaints, and Palin says she has racked up more than $500,000 in legal fees fighting them."

Believe this guy had most effective way of reducing frivious lawsuits :)

Was referring to Rudy on large city Chad.
Agree with you on Pawlenty--
If he can get past debate and get speach writer like O and teleprompter he will be ok :)

Obama inauguration: Words of history ... crafted by 27-year-old in Starbucks

When Barack Obama steps up to the podium to deliver his inaugural address, one man standing anonymously in the crowd will be paying especially close attention. With his cropped hair, five o'clock shadow and boyish face, he might look out of place among the dignitaries, though as co-author of the speech this man has more claim than most to be a witness to this moment of history.

She's a politician, get over it. If she couldn't take the heat now what does she expect if she were president, not like that's gonna happen-

are you serious?... you don`t think minor children are out of bounds?...the obama children should be out of bounds...

slam her all you want...but get off her kids...

what a bunch of losers attacking children..:SIB

look,i agree that she`s toast as a presidential hopeful in 2012...after that,i hve no idea...

she has a lot of work to do as far as selling herself as being capable of handling the presidency....i don`t see it....i don`t think it`s possible for her....

and this move doesn`t help...but as far as helping the party, she can do that more effectively without the responsibility of a governorship....

bottom line on this move, the dems will paint her as a quitter and with the msm,it will stick...

there are one of two things going on here..

1)theres a REAL scandal brewing(maybe the 16th ethics complaint will be a charm)...or

2)she got tired of paying lawyers to fight ethics charges and having her family run through the political wringer.......the palin's aren't wealthy people....i believe she makes $125,000 a year as governor...it doesn't cost a dime to slime someone but it does to clean up the mess....that`s the problem with politics today and why tort reform would be an excellent idea(loser pays)...

apologies if i was outta line with some guys that i consider friends on the board(cie/saint)....happy 4th guys....

You weren't out of line with me, bro.

BTW, can you imagine the uproar if a joke/comment involving sexual inuendo was launched at Obama's minor children?

First off, if you push abstinence and you're pregnant before you get married and then your 17 year old gets knocked up, it pretty much opens the door for folks to take shots......Everybody screams that Clinton got a blow job in the White House, well he wasn't going around preaching "Family Values".............it's the hypocrisy that stirs the pot, not the actions.

Palin is the reason I voted for Obama but imo she is crushed by the media and that is unfair and out of her control. I would be shocked if she ran in 2012. She has no chance of winning...zero

When you first heard the joke did you think Letterman was talking about the young girl or the older girl?

It wasn't until the spin machine started that got people thinking he meant the young girl. He made a mistake, whoever wrote the joke just heard Palin was at the game with her daughter, and if the Palins themselves had not brought up the name of the young girl everyone would of thought he speaking of the older girl, who had her face pasted on People magazine a week before.

So your justifying the joke, it does not matter which daughter it was about to me either way it was out of line and Dave was right in issuing an apology.

I think Palin resigning is great, and a good thing for her political career, she is either running for Senator or President, don't know which one yet, stay tuned...

Yes, I am justifying the joke. Do you justify the girl having her face pasted on People Magazine getting all kinds of publicity for herself and her mother?

If she wants to the game then take a joke. For days all we heard from Right Wing Wacko media was an uproar over the joke. Then during the uproard they claim there is no uproar!!!!!!

And the minions of sheep that follow those creeps repeat, imagine the uproar if it was Obamas daughter. Don't you get it. THERE WAS AN UPROAR!
