Also, at the end of the day, Dana is taking away a fight that the fans wanted to see. Sure fans are going to be excited to see GSP fight, but I'm nowhere near excited to see this fight. The only way I watch this fight is if I don't have plans on that Saturday.

Unless Dana delivers like he's leading and jabbing to be doing with a "interesting twist" for BJ Penns opponent, I really don't have much interest in the rest of this card.

Cut a fighter or take him from a fight because he doesn't show up for a press conference? A bit rough. I don't blame Diaz for this fall out as much as I blame Dana and the UFC. They knew what type of act they were getting with him. This is completely ignorant.

Maybe the UFC decided to appease to GSP since it wasn't "fair" LMAO

it's probably written in the contract

nba, mlb, nfl they all have to talk to the media or they get fined

I'm not disputing if it's in the contract. I'm sure there is all of that in there. I just think the fine would take care of all that. The fact that they went so far to pull him and consider releasing him for a guy Dana praises and likes so much, tells me that there's more to it.

Another problem for Dana is, what if he puts up with him and then he actually takes the belt? Then what? You're stuck with a champ that refuses to help promote the product. That sucks. The whole situation sucks. We're left with a shittier, much less interesting fight. We lose.

i thought about this yesterday and after some deliberation,i think white made the move to reenforce his authority......

this fight(diaz/gsp) sells itself....they don`t need a publicity tour...the canadians will flock like geese to watch gsp live in canada...they`d flock to see him knitting a pair of socks...

and the promo program will sell the ppv`s internationally...actually,this fight sold itself......this fight`s generated amazing interest....as big a fight as any in recent memory...rivaling rua/jones,carwin/lesnar...you name it.....it`s a huge promotion and would have sold a ton of ppv`s....they didn`t need the pre fight pressers.....they`re for the media, not the fans...

but white couldn`t let a fighter just thumb his nose at the ufc...do what he wanted.....and like gmro(whatshisnuts) said, what if diaz won?.....

i think a diaz win vs gsp would really throw white for a loop...he`d lose some control if that happened...keeping diaz reined in would be like herding cats....

i don`t think that the ufc is interested in all the potential pitfalls of a possible(yes,it would be a longshot) diaz championship....

they didn`t need any pressers to sell this fight...it sells itself...but then again, they don`t need the potential migraine of having to deal with an unprofessional nick diaz as a champion representing the organization...white is anal about having total control....and i think that`s more important to him and the ufc than selling more ppv`s.....

makes sense if you`re running the show...

I agree that this fight is a blockbuster and it would sell itself, but this is the type of opportunity that exposes new fans to the sport. I don't think he's worried about the PPV numbers as much as he is interested in hooking new fans. These press conferences will get covered in the local newspapers and possibly on the local news networks. Build a little hype here and a little hype there, and you start to pull some new ans in. If you are watching the promos, you're probably already interested.

I do agree with you on the control aspect. That is definitely a major concern for Dana. I hope Dana gave him an ultimatum rather than just pulling him after missing two pressers.....but I guess he didn't have a whole lot of time to play around either. This just plain sucks.

and as much as i love condit as a fighter,he`s a just plain lousy match-up for gsp.......

you need a serious wrestling background to threaten gsp(he learned a lesson after the serra debacle)......

from a purely selfish fan`s p.o.v.,i`d love to see condit vs diaz....two tough nuts who can fight standing and on the mat but aren`t dominant wrestlers...
smlilar body types...great cardio.....no quit in either....

as it stands now,if they could somehow match diaz with penn(i know...it ain`t happening with diaz at this point),that would be interesting(again, strictly from a selfish fan`s perspective....i`m not running a multi-million dollar organization)...

oh well...

F'ing Diaz. I really wanted to see that fight. I thought Diaz might be able to do some things nobody else has done.

Condit is going to get destroyed.(see what Rory fight looked like) I really like Condit but he's not ready for GSP.

wonder why hioki gets roop when gomi got thrown to the wolves right off the bat?.....

very odd....maybe dana realized he made a big mistake not marketing gomi a little more effectively...

Plus we have the rumored February Japan UFC show. Dana will want at least some of the fighters to be on a winning streak for that event. Roop is a tough kid with good wins over Grispi (overrated? Over-looked some opponents?) and Chan-Sung. But this is a winnable fight for Hioki.

Kid and Gomi both have tough fights at UFC 135. Akiyama is moving to 170 to stop the slide.

I would imagine Kid, Gomi, Akiyama and Hioki will be on that Japan card - I'm sure Dana does not want all 4 to be coming off defeats

He may get destroyed on the scorecards (50-45 is a possibility) but I don't think he is going to get destroyed as in his face is smashed.

Where he will struggle is stopping the takedown. He is excellent of his back but I don't ever recall anyone sweeping or coming close to a submission in MMA while GSP is on top.

But Condit is fearless and is improving with every fight. He is also a big WW and he deserves to be in this fight

Destroyed as in no chance to win is more or less what I was saying. GSP doesn't usually do a lot of physical damage to other fighters.

For once I want to see someone fighting GSP let their hands go. We all know he's going to take his opponent down so why not get some good shots in while you can.

Ive read a lot of people think Anderson, but I think no way in hell. It makes sense, but not as a co-main event. A lot of people have said Diaz, but I just don't see it.

I think we see a catch weight fight.

Machida anyone? Cung Le? Melendez? Marquardt?

The winner of GSP/Condit has to fight again, against BJ Penn? LOL

Who is Anderson? A Silva? If that is who u mean there is no shot. Maybe Rory Mac? I know he has a fight coming up but that usually doesn't mean anything in this sport. I hope it isn't Shields. Might make sense to give Shields a little more time to mend since dad died but then u need someone for his spot. Melendez would be nice. Like to see his overrated ass get kicked
