The Hoyas are 20-4 SU for the 2007-'08 season and their
four defeats have come on the road, so everybody thinks
they'll lose this game since it comes less than 48 hours
after their previous game in Syracuse.
"This team doesn't have the hardness that is necessary
to win against a good team on the road," coach John
Thompson III said after the Syracuse game. Providence
isn't a good team. "There's still time left to get that,
but we haven't gotten it yet."
Asked what the reason for some slow starts on the road
may be, Thompson answered, "We just have to get better
on the road. I don't think it's the crowd, I don't think
it's us being 'the hunted,' I don't think it's whatever.
I just think we need to figure out how to do better."
Playing against Providence will go a long way toward
achieving that. Providence's roster has a bunch of one-way
players. A good shooter who can?t drive to the hoop (Xavier).
A good defender who can?t score (McDermott). And no true
point guard other than Curry, who was injured in November.
The two Totals selections are in keeping with the oft-cited
theme that follows the pattern established by Big East head
coaches who go Saturday-to-Monday. Shot-clock-draining slow.
GEORGETOWN, 35-20, 32-32: 67-52.
