Texas Longhorns -4

There 17-5 this month there on fire

UCLA covered handily for us - another win.

Texas should cover in this game. They've won 8 of their last 9 and will look to avenge an earier in season loss to A&M. Their home court advantage should be too much for the young Aggies team to overcome.

NCAA Hoops:

Rhode Island (pk) for 2 Units
Xavier/Rhode Island 7:00: The Rams are looking to dispel the belief that they are unable to compete with the top tier teams; after all, they haven't beaten a ranked opponent since December of 1998. We'll look for this veteran Rams team to deliver the goods on a floor they're undefeated on this year at 11-0. They're catching Xavier at the right time - on an 0-4 ATS slide - barely sneaking by a mediocre Charlotte team Wednesday. And tonight, the Musketeers will most likely be without their floor leader - Drew Lavender - who injured his ankle Wednesday. Lavender averages 12 ppg, 5 apg, and plays an important part in their defensive scheme. Xavier is just 2-6 ATS on the road, and without Lavender should be at a disadvantage against the hungry Rams who should bounce back strong after their tough OT defeat Wednesday; the Rams are 3-0 SU after a conference loss.

Texas (-4') for 2 Units
Texas A&M/Texas 9:00: Texas is playing a good stretch of basketball and should sustain their winning role here. The Longhorns, which are on a 5-0 SU/ATS run, control a 10-2 ATS mark as a road loss revenger. A&M is coming off a nice stretch themselves; however, they fell flat at home on Saturday against Oklahoma State and had just a day turnover time to prepare for this one. With the home team at 9-2-1 ATS in this series, we'll look for the Longhorns to exact another monster home win in front of a raucous Longhorn crowd.

Monday's Plays...

15 Dime ?

RHODE ISLAND

Take the points with Rhode Island tonight when they host Xavier.

Rhode Island is undefeated at home this year, so catching any points with them is a bonus, even if it?s against the ranked Musketeers.

If Xavier plays tonight like they did last Wednesday against Charlotte, when they had 23 turnovers and shot just 39.5 percent from the field, then Rhode Island won?t need the points to cash in.

Musketeers? senior point guard Drew Lavender turned his ankle in the first half of the win over Charlotte and that could affect his quickness tonight. Lavender played the entire game last Wednesday but was held scoreless.

Rhode Island desperately needs a signature win to enhance their standing in the eyes of the NCAA Selection Committee, and this is the perfect opportunity for them.

The Rams are 9-3-1 ATS in their last 13 home games, while Xavier is just 3-10 ATS in its last 13 Monday games. Xavier is also 0-4 ATS in its last four games.

Take the points with Rhode Island as they grab the cash tonight over Xavier.

10 Dime ?

ST. JOSEPH?S

Take St. Joe?s as the big home chalk tonight over LaSalle.

The Hawks have owned this series, winning the last eight meetings and going 6-1-1 ATS. The average margin of victory during that span is 19.1 points.

St. Joe?s has a balanced scoring attack that LaSalle just can?t seem to solve. Five Hawks average double-digits in scoring, led by guard Pat Calathes with 18.3 ppg. Calathes is deadly from 3-point range where he shoots 44.1 percent.

LaSalle once again won?t be able to stop the Hawks balanced scoring attack, and will see this game get out of hand in the second half.

Take St. Joe?s as the home chalk for the win and cover.

NCAAB: Xavier Musketeers at Rhode Island Rams - Rhode Island +1 (Heavy Hitter) -110 | Unit Value: 3
Game Date: 2/18/2008
Note: This line opened at 2.5 and is actually now Pick at at least 1 book. Apparently, I am not the only one seeing value on this play. The Rams have been unbeatable here at home and they have only had a couple of scares along the way. They have done it with much better D here than on the road and with great shooting skills as well. The Musketeers are more than likely going to be without Drew Lavender who suffered an ankle injury in the UNCC contest on 2/13 and his skills will be missed tonight. Lavender not only scores about 12 per game, he plays very good Defense, with 31 steals this year. His absense along the perimiter is going to give the Rams extra good opps from outside, where they already perform very well. Xavier does have a very good bench so this is not the primary reason to play the home team. What is, is the way that Rhode Island plays here at home and how Xavier plays on the road. While the Musketeers have a 5-3 overall record away from their homecourt, they have had some scares while traveling with close wins verses much lessor squads. A 2 point win at UNCC and St Joe, a close win verses GW on an 11.5 spot, and an outright loss at Temple. Our team is coming off an OT loss to Temple and at 6-4 in the conference, this is a huge game. They will bring the A Team tonight and they usually do here in Kingston. This betting line is moving quickly so don't wait to get the Rams, get them now.

NCAAB: Gonzaga Bulldogs at San Diego Toreros - San Diego +7.5 -110 | Unit Value: 2
Game Date: 2/18/2008

Note: The Betting Market has pushed this posted line clean out of comprehension with the Bulldogs playing the best they have all year. The other reason why we have what I consider to be a much higher betting line here tonight in San Diego is the fact that the Toreros have been unable to beat the visitors in their last 12 tries. Most recently a 10 point loss on the road about a month ago. But since that game, they have rattled off 7 straight victories and they have done it in fine fashion with 4 of those coming away from their homecourt. That has put them in a situation tonight where if they win, they will assume the conference lead. That is double motivation for the home squad and you can rest assure, this will be the toughest ticket in California tonight. San Diego was dissatisfied with its performance against the Dons. "We played well for different parts of the game, but we've got to put it together for 40 minutes," forward Gyno Pomare told the San Diego Union Tribune. "No disrespect to that team, but we should have beat them by more." They did follow that up with a solid performance at home to Portland and this team is on the threshold of greatness. They do play very good D here at SD and they have been playing good D during this longest winning streak in this conference. They've got good guard play, a good big man and a good bench. While being considered the "Surprise Team" this year, there is reason to believe that it is not a surprise at all. They certainly showed me a lot in the first meeting this year, dropping down in the score by as much as 20, trailing by 17 at half, and fighting back to make it a game. I don't think that happens tonight and a close, fierce battle is going to be ontap. I will grab the 7.5 points.
