...abuse of office with impunity.

It's prevalent throughout. Police, attorneys, magistrates, lower courts, higher courts, politicians of every kindred and tribe. The system is broken, the corruption rampant, the damage irreversible. Hold onto the bar.

Jesus is Lord.

That has never happened to me. Ever.

If I am getting pulled over, I have my license and registration in my hand and out the window before he even gets to my car. They like that. They like polite and respect as well. Many more times than not, I usually get a warning because they like me.

My son and I fly RC airplanes and run his RC cars on the church's property. My wife and kids go to that church and the pastor has told us he does not care if we fly the planes/run the cars there. Toward the end of last summer they had had several instances of vandalism at the church and thus were closing the gate blocking cars from getting back to the property. My son and I would just walk back as we live very close to the property.

Well, a cop saw us from the road and drove back to the gate, got out of his car and started walking toward us (about 100 yards on the pavement). I knew what he wanted. I put my license on one of the cars and drove it towards him to be funny, which he thought it was. My son and I walked over to him and explained we had permission and let him take our information to call the pastor and make sure.

Could I have been a dick since we were on private property and had permission to be there? Probably, but what's the point? I even let him use my phone to call the pastor since he left his in his car.

I guess I'm a pussy, I should have fought the good fight and put that cop in his place, right?

Two different streams of thought going on here....Respect and compliance may help to keep a policemans gun in his holster, but respect and compliance have nothing to do with the blatant abuse of power and corruption by those same policemen and other elected "officials."

I love you bro but this is a very short-sighted statement, which I don't know you even totally believe yourself. Respect is a two way street and always earned never assigned. As I've continuously pointed out, law enforcement's respect for the citizenship better start with their civil rights. So when you advocate just "complying" and complain later, your respect statement is no longer valid. Simple as that. I don't walk up to an officer and knowingly violate his rights, yet I'm expected overlook it being done to me?

If he's asking you to do something degrading, immoral, harmful, etc... then I agree with you. Producing your ID accomplishes none of those things. It's harmless other than the "I won't be told what to do" factor that you seem to be the only one who understands.

It's producing ID for crying out loud, while a violation of your civil rights, I suppose, whatever happened to common sense?

Just like all the gun supporters who cry about the second amendment and what our forefathers fought for. Yea, I understand the second amendment, but I don't think what our forefathers were fighting for was the right to take assault rifles into a movie theater.

Damn it people, some common sense, please.

And I get what both you and sports are saying, I really do, and I try to be respectful to everyone.
Whether or not it's immoral or degrading or not has nothing to do with it, although one could certainly argue that an officers sole responsibility is to uphold the law abs defend the citizenship. If the law states my rights as such, knowingly violating them in any capacity is not what they're supposed to do. I just don't see how it's incumbent upon me to allow for that and excuse it as something I should be fine with. If we are talking about mutual respect wouldn't it start with both being observant of the law?
And every single time I enter this conversation or discussion, I always hear, well if you have nothing to hide"? As if I'm the one being derelict in my duties as a citizen, rather than the other citizen that happens to be in uniform knowingly being derelict in their duties right off the bat.
That's the whole point of having law enforcement, to protect and serve. Why is it my fault that I expect my rights to be respected by an officer

No such thing as common sense if it were common everyone would have it.
