Being a cop would SUCK. You can be great all of your life, everyday of your career and one guy decides to push the envelope with you and next thing you know you're the bad guy. Not saying this cop was right or wrong, just saying it would suck to be a cop.

Well, to be fair, you could do exactly as commanded and still be murdered by a cop - when black. And I wonder what kind of thuggery the media will dig up for the late Philando Castile? Hmmmm....

Peace! :)

promised land... but thats true in any endeavor...

Seems like that can happen in pretty much any job. Anyone here been fired for a bullshit reason? Ever had politics at the office go against you after 15 years of good work? Ever fucked up big time and had to face the music? Yeah those things happen to everyone. I am not going to feel sorry for a cop suddenly being ?the bad guy? or losing their job.
What must suck is living with having killed someone. That shit can?t be easy to get over. Or worrying about getting shot. Those things ARE stress inducing (though being a cop is still much safer than a lot of other jobs which we rarely throw empathy towards [drivers, roofers, fishermen.. there are about a dozen types of more dangerous jobs]). And cops are fairly compensated, and have a stronger union and job security than almost any other profession.

When was the last time we all collectively felt sorry for a logger (whose job is 10x more dangerous than being a cop) suddenly loses his job because of a stroke a pen in congress, or business decision made completely separate from his job performance?

Fek - Your argument is that there are suckier jobs out there.

That does not mean that being a cop wouldn't/doesn't suck.

Ticketing and arresting people are highly contentious environments to navigate. Making the wrong judgment call in just one of those situations could ruin yours and/or someone elses life. Shirley you can see the sucktitude in that point.

Stupidity is the only thing that get's loggers killed. A tree doesn't just decide he's not going to be taken from the forest, and kills the logger. I'll bet being a professional knife catcher is a dangerous job, too.

Agreed and the vast majority of cops manage to not get shot/stabbed or shoot someone. The one's with terrible judgement should be weeded out more aggressively. Just like they are in other jobs.

Well I think a lot of cops who shoot suspects in these scenarios are pretty fucking stupid.
Not all, mind you. There are a lot of justifiable police shootings.

But I refuse to feel sorry for a police officer. They know what they are getting into, and have had a free run of things for decades (pre-camera). They need to adjust to being scrutinized just as much as the rest of us slobs are at work.

It's a decision, when you sign up to be a cop here are the risks: moderately dangerous, stressful, could be fired if you made a bad decision and hurt someone.

Here are the benefits: above average pay, above average benefits, early retirement, laws and power that are on your side 99% of the time, stable industry (cop layoffs? ever?)

Once you put on the uniform you have made your choice with full knowledge of the circumstances of your employment.

The percentage of cops who have to shoot someone are an incredibly low number. We just have to see the video every single time it happens. I don't cry for some ass clowns out to make a movie, who end up dead. It's really not that hard to keep your mitts in plain sight when a cop has a gun in your mug. Why give a "pretty fucking stupid" cop an open invitation?
