Ian - (adopting smarmy quizmaster tone...) Kate Bush is the correct answer but I must insist on the full song title!

the song was a favorite for quite some time.
the video, with Donald Sutherland in it, always made me feel quite emotional for some reason.

here's one with a little sports fan flavor ... from a favorite artist of mine.

Once upon a time I was in show-biz too
I seen the Brooklyn Dodgers playing at Ebbets Field
Seen the Kentucky Derby too
It's fast women, slow horses, unreliable sources,
And I'm holding up the lamp-post if you want to know

Since no one's gotten my first (and I thought it was so easy), I will provide a clue with this one:

Near misses on the dog-leap stairway,
french kisses in the darkened doorway.
Foghorn's blowin' out wild and cold,
the policeman shines a light on my shoulder.

Clue: As usual, strange lyrics and great guitar work by M.K.

We're so bad we know we're good.
Blowin' your mind like we knew we would.
You know we're just struttin' for fun
Struttin' our stuff for everyone.
We're not here to start not trouble.
We're just here to do the ..........

Kimmick--

Jimmy Buffett is the singer/songwriter of that one. The actual song escapes me, though...

Be back later.. Got it. "A Pirate looks at forty."
For a bunch of years in a row, Buffett has played every summer at a place called Alpine Valley in S.E. Wisconsin.
Used to go every year to the show-- haven't made it in a while. Wife doesn't care for his music....

Infinity goes up on trial
Voices echo this is what
Salvation must be like after a while
But even Mona Lisa musta had the highway blues
You can tell by the way she smiles..."

Hey Redsfann,

You got it....I've been a Buffet fan for a lot of years....he does put on a great show live.

Try my other one......definitely NOT Buffett.

Thanks Anders for Humperdink's tune...

Pondering on another one.

On one of the NFL pre-game shows several weeks back they had a piece on Terry Glenn. Anyways, Mike Ditka said that Glenn reminded him of the song lyrics--

A walking contradiction,
Partly truth but mainly fiction

I think he said Kristofferson wrote it. True? If so, what song, and what are the rest of lyrics?

Thanks, NS

Kimmick--

Nothing is coming up on my database for that second set of lyrics, I'm afraid. Racking my brain trying to come up with a name with the initials of M.K.... Can you give me any more hints without giving it away?
biggrin.gif

Anders--

Go back to the bottom of page 4 and check out those lyrics I posted........

Natural Selection - 'twas the musical mastermind Ian who helped you out last time.

But I got this one for ya

The Pilgrim; Chapter 33

See him wasted on the sidewalk in his jacket and his jeans,
Wearin' yesterday's misfortunes like a smile--
Once he had a future full of money, love, and dreams,
Which he spent like they was goin' outa style--
And he keeps right on a'changin' for the better or the worse,
Searchin' for a shrine he's never found--
Never knowin' if believin' is a blessin' or a curse,
Or if the goin' up was worth the comin' down--

CHORUS:
He's a poet, he's a picker--
He's a prophet, he's a pusher--
He's a pilgrim and a preacher, and a problem when he's stoned--
He's a walkin' contradiction, partly truth and partly fiction,
Takin' ev'ry wrong direction on his lonely way back home.

He has tasted good and evil in your bedrooms and your bars,
And he's traded in tomorrow for today--
Runnin' from his devils, Lord, and reachin' for the stars,
And losin' all he's loved along the way--
But if this world keeps right on turnin' for the better or the worse,
And all he ever gets is older and around--
>From the rockin' of the cradle to the rollin' of the hearse,
The goin' up was worth the comin' down--

There's a lotta wrong directions on that lonely way back home.

Redsfann,

......hmmmmmm....without giving it away.

That's tough.

How about the headband he wore in concerts and videos. And it's a group, not one guy. (The initials are the one guy, tho.)

Make sure your thinking is straight, not circular. hehehe

Pat

edited to clear up the initials question.

And Redsfann,

The front man/lead guitarist's name is Mark Knopfler.

They put out some great stuff. Been split up for years now, tho.

Pat--

Just ignore that crazy Kiwi Anders-- he's just trying to pull a fast one on ya....
smile.gif

Have almost all of Dire Straights stuff in the ol' music library-- fantastic stuff...
ALL of it on vinyl, though... so haven't given them a proper listen in a LONG while....
As usual, have NO clue as to Anders' recent
batch of lyrics he has posted...
wink.gif

Yeah, Anders, coulda guessed we were the only two 'Mats fans here at Jack's-- had to give it a shot, though...

Here's some lyrics from an artist I am going to see in Des Moines on November 30th....

Now I'm in my car
I got the radio on
I'm yellin' at the kids in the back seat
'cause they're banging like Charlie Watts

You think you've come so far
in this one horse town
Then she's laughin' that crazy laugh
Cause you haven't left the parking lot...
