I think the NFL players could draw much more attention to their protests and social injustices if they opted to take that knee when it's 4th and goal rather than during pre game national anthem time.

Defensive back for Bears tried taking a knee to protest as he slowed down crossing the goal line
so a slow white guy could catch him and strip the ball.
Orthell Beckham protested by crawling around like a dog after scoring a TD . He then lifted his leg like the dog would peeing .
These were 2 memorable protests today by these modern day MLK social warriors.

I could not be more ashamed to be a fan of this team right now.

If Mr. Rooney were still alive you can bet your last dollar this would not be happening. I legit hope they lose to the Bears today as it would restore my faith in Karma.

Worked out well for your Karma. So happy for you and your team

I wish the fans would protest the athletes and not show up one week and let them play for no one. Hit the bottom line and the owners/players tune will change quickly. Do your job and leave your agenda at home. Your job also includes being a role model for all these young kids which idolize these athletes. Most of these role models suck and that is a major problem in this vicious circular cycle. There is no respect any more. Showing, being, acting respectful is not an oppression. Having and being respectful keeps us humble and grounded. In this scenerio Its about the simple respect for the one symbol (which a lot of people died for) that gives you and all of us the freedom to be the rich entitled asshole a lot of athletes are .....if you dont like it move! I hear n korea is pretty this time of year.

This is all a very personal thing. I've heard from people who feel very strongly about respecting the national anthem and people who are very open to this protest. What does this suggest? That opinions vary.
For instance some veterans are deeply insulted, others are supportive of the protesting athletes. Nobody owns the right opinion on this matter.

I personally think the National Anthem should be saved for the Olympics. It doesn't play before movies, or the opera or a 5th grade play, so why is it SO important for certain sports leagues? Tradition? As a symbol?
Fine. It is symbolicaly important to some people, but if it isn't important to some other people, then what is the big deal? We are all different.

I also personally am not the type of person to get unduly invested in symbols. My feelings about my country are not evenly remotely influenced by someone else's behavior. I wouldn't personally take the time to deface the flag, shit it's probably made in China anyway. But if someone else takes a dump on a flag, or burns it.. meh, it doesn't effect me at all. Pay your taxes, follow laws that are just, protest laws and conditions that are unjust. Treat your neighbor with respect. That's all that matters.
The rest is just dressing. And I've always felt the people who worry the most about the dressings, the aesthetics in life, are the most prone to ignore the more important things I referenced. Being a good person. Being fair.
The likelihood is that the genesis and the continuation of the national anthem at most sporting events has more to do with marketing than anything else.

Patriotism is a commodity that makes billion dollar sports leagues more appealing to some segments of their customer base. Get upset about how that piece of marketing plays out, with about the same intensity someone might get upset with the amount of previews a movie theater plays before the feature presentation.

Say what you want but Beckham should be thrown out for a few games after that disgusting display! Not sure what he was trying to say and I don't care. If it wasn't for gambling no one would give a crap what these idiots do. Most are just lucky they are freaks of nature anyway. But Beckham, no excuse for that. He should have been thrown out on the spot, baring that the coach should have sat him down. Total disgrace!

YEAH.

This is what this country is all about.

Everyone has freedom of speech, unless its something I disagree with.

Nothing is more unamerican then telling someone with a different view to get out of this country, so fucking childish.
