VERY INTERESTING SUBJECT!
as for me 1 unit =100

baseball normall 5 units the highest (500.00)
basketball bet 2-4-5-10 units (1000.00) rthe highest, but bet my biigest amount last year (2000.00)
football 2-4-5-10

if i bet 10 units on a game-it is usually college basketball-where i do my best!

but a 500 (5 unit) play in any sport is a big play for me as well

base ball killed me this year-so have cut dowmn alot!

Don't bet as often as I would like, not enough time to do my own handicapping & to me that is most of my enjoyment. The challenge of picking a winner. When I do bet it is mostly football & to me 1 unit =$100.My average bet is 2units & have gone up to 30 units. But that is very rare.

yyz,I understand what you are saying.I have always hung out with gamblers.Always liked their mindset on various issues.Unfortunately since living here I have not been able to hang with gamblers, can't find any.So whenever I have free time I read the various forums. To me it is similar to hanging out with gamblers.

Anders' one unit = $NZ50.

I started out with $50 in a TAB a/c here in NZ.....betting $5 a time and learning from people here.

Opened up a few free a/c at various books; got a little luck to keep them going .... still stick with 2% of bankroll as a wager...

Wife not a big fan of gambling but recognises I do it with my own money that doesn't impinge on any way on our $ for mortgage, bills etc... believe that's very important if u r an amateur like 99% of us...

you guys have good money managment for the most part. I am horrible at that. I started gambling and playing a steady unit system, but when I start losing, I want to win more money fast, so I get to chasing. I bet around $100-$1000 on regular games, and have made wagers up to $10,000 before, and unfortunalty lost both them by 9th inning after being up by 2 in both games.

eeeehhhhhh........ a couple here and a couple there, but as F~. Monk will tell you I NEVER bet favorites in bases and only bet a few games, I did however make my largest wager to date during the championship run of the Chicago Bears. I gave a friend of mine eleven points and the cowboys, (Marine Corps buddy) against the bears and the wager was a......thirty yard running kick in the nuts:eek: . Loser had to be held in place while the winner got to get on the runway.
Score: Bears 44- Cowboys 0

...really? I know that's what they tell ya because I've befriended Bill W. on and off for a few years, but on the other hand, I know a gentleman that's been clean and sober in AA for a number of years who also owns and runs a liquor store. Go figure....

No totals in contest

No totals in contest

The reason some people,me included, might not be sending in money to enter what I'm sure will be a fine contest is that there are no totals included, which are half the wagering options.yyz-underlying all your rationale for why you don't bet is that you are a SELF-ACKNOWLEGDED LOSING HANDICAPPER who knows in his heart that his money is as good as lost once it is sent off-shore.The question that begs asking is,why then do you think anyone would or SHOULD be interested in following any of the make believe"plays" you post every day?So many of the madjacks police go off because some unintiated MJs lurker might mistake some casual poster as the "real thing",specifically someone who at least plays what he posts with real money.I can't understand why they aren't all over you. This is the real reason you hate and badgered BeantownJim so much, because you are easily as bad a handicapper as he is and he reminds you of your own gambling weaknesses. Lastly you must be up 24/7 to be visiting with any loved ones that are not at MadJacks because you post more here than anyone else. Why on Earth would you be concerned with how much another person wagers?

edludes,

Always good to see you around. Maybe you should follow yyz's position and stop wagering real money. Just in case you forgot your record at bestbettor.com, here it is

One unit for me in sports betting is $50 - so most plays between $50 and $250. Biggest football/baseball bet was $1000 on Pats in Super Bowl - unfortunately not last year, in 1986 I think. Even though they got creamed by Bears, I won a fortune on them because I believe they covered every game that year except the first game and Super Bowl. Used to be pretty big player with horses - average bet $100 -$300 and from $2,000 - $4,000 on Pick Six when it first started out here. Did pretty well for first two years then syndicates took over the Pick Six playing out here laying out $20,000 or more. Made it tough to beat them. Seldom play horses any more - the game has just changed too much. As crazy as it may sound, I probably have the most "fun" playing 4,5, and 6 team parlays for $5 off shore. Hard to imagine getting excited about that, but something about it intrigues me. Don't know if I could do that exclusively and still have same fun.

I don't know about my heart, but I sure knew it in my wallet!;)

edlose....err....ludes,
So by your rationale, a guy that posts and has a history of losing yet may or may not have good insight into capping is a loser because he didn't do well when he dabbled in the game is much worse than a great guy like you that is still betting money on losers. Who is the imbecile here? The one that realizes his weakness and does something about it or...... a clod such as yourself who continues to be a loser yet gathers some sort of vindication by calling everyone else out? As far as someone blindly following anyones pick in any forum such as this is their own choice and their own money. Maybe you blindly follow a stranger into somethng but I certainly will not. You see, deadludes, not everyone is as mentally inadequate as yourself. A lot of the men and women around here have already moved away from home, are responsible for more than taking the trash to the curb on thursday, didn't ditch gym class today, and have more respect for the people in here than to go around trashing them when the have a losing record. I don't know if there is a rabies epidemic up there in sunny hell, or if you are suffering from some maniacal case of penis envy, oops you may not have had sex ed. yet sorry, but your attack on yyz is uncalled for and unappreciated. Now if you haven't gotten to those big words yet in your reader, ask mommy as I am sure she will tell you when she gets home a couple of hours after the bars close:thefinger

iN my humble opinion, the only idiot we have amongst us, is the one that keeps shelling out his hard-earned money on losing picks. I'd say the smarter of the two, is the person who has figured out how to stop the bleeding(i.e.....stop betting). Your degrading remarks only show what an idiot you are in the realm of sport's betting.

You kind of remind me of the kid that keeps touching the hot stove. He realizes he's getting burned, but yet he's too stupid to quit touching the fuhcking thing...

He doesn't bet anymore than I do, guys. It's no big deal.

As for my "losing" record, go back over the summer and you will see I have more winners than losers, and have shown a "phantom" profit.

But, then again.................what does that mean? I have fun, so that's the bottom line.

I kind-a like that Neemer touch the f?????? stove and lets do it again. Once more for luck, again. YYZ I now believe you have it down. Your making those plays in a fun relaxed mode. Could be your way to cash in. Just some how have to make sure your self still thinks it's fun and not real. I believe there can be a differance in your final pick in some cases. Talk your self out of one or just the other way around. Strange how a few bucks can change our thinking.
