When it comes to state budget priorities, spending half a percent of the budget on ventilators is a no brainer.
Now the pandemic is actually here. Cuomo?s grim reaper rules will be applied. New York City?s deputy commissioner for disease control Demetre Daskalakis is anticipating ?some very serious difficult decisions.? So far, in New York City, 1 out of every 4 people with a confirmed case has been hospitalized, and 44% of them have needed a ventilator.
The task force claimed there was no point in buying ventilators because there?s also a shortage of doctors and nurses trained to use them. Five years ago, that problem could have been fixed, too. Even now, the National Disaster Medical System can send staff to hot spots like New York.?
Now all of sudden Cuomo is crying for ventilators and equipment, Cuomo said, ?Do we have enough beds, do we have enough gloves, enough PPE equipment? There is something called the Federal Defense Procurement Act. This is a war. Treat it like a war. Say to the manufacturers in this country, I need you to build these pieces of equipment quickly, certainly the gear, the machine next to me, the ventilator, this is going to be the matter of life and death for people. We now have about 5,000, 6,000 ventilators in New York State. We are going to need about 30,000 ventilators because these people who have come in all have respiratory illnesses.?

How come when Coumo says he's short on ventilators,It's because nobody could fathom the need for that many? He's given praises by the press.But when Trump says he's short on ventilators and nobody expected the need for that many ,he's demonized for fucking up?
I think the states operate like independent businesses so they are preparing for handling day to day operations. I'm sure they have emergency reserves but the NSC, CDC and the National Department of Health and Human Services are responsible to protect the country for the sake of national security. When it comes to having strategic reserves, it makes more sense to have it managed by one entity that distributes as needed rather than having a situation where every state is hoarding their own supplies.....it's inefficient.

The President, currently Donald Trump, is responsible for The Strategic National Stockpile - a source of materials, equipment and supplies which might be needed in a National emergency. That includes, among other things, an adequate supply of ventilators. That is Trump's RESPONSIBILTY. He presently has a budget of $8,000,000,000 for that.
Of course he's so fucking stupid that he doesn't even know or care that it exists.
State governors have no such stockpile, nor the funding to maintain one.
If Coumo would stop welcoming every illegal he can into the state to harvest votes,the densest city in the U.S.might not need all those ventilators.

?The US is dependent on China for over one-third of all the antibiotics we import, and in the case of many generic drugs, we are completely dependent on China,? the economists wrote.
?We found that an ambitious but realistic reshoring program could create 804,000 US jobs and add $200 billion to annual GDP in the first year,? they continued. ?The benefits in terms of security of supply are separate, and in times like the present, critically important.?
Currently, according to the study, about 80 percent of pharmaceuticals imported to the U.S. arrive from ten foreign countries ? including Ireland, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, India, Denmark, Belgium, Canada, United Kingdom, and Japan.
