Kegray nailed this one on the head. If you have to dominate the champ to be the champ then nobody will be able to beat Machida. He proved all he has to do is run and get a few punches in.
Shogun had the PERFECT strategy going for kicks to the legs and body. Mainly the leg because of how far out the front one is in the karate stance.
I don't want to look back thru the thread but whoever is saying Shogun stumbled a few times when he was hit, he stumbles because he kicked either before or after the hit. Machida didn't have one punch that he didn't pay for. Everytime he punched Shogun made him pay for hit with a kick. A lot of times when Shogun was busting up his side or leg Machida would kick. Just because Shogun is on one leg, gets hit and it makes him stumble doesn't make it a big hit. He was simply on one leg and couldn't maintain his balance.
I've gone back over the fight(because I couldn't sleep). I watched it with no sound and kept a score in my head of kicks and hits. It wasn't close. I have slept since then but it was over 2 to 1 in kicks and punches landed.
Shogun may not have dominated him but he did win. Machida did nothing to win, I think at best he won 2 rounds and those 2 are very questionable.
I don't recall Machida ever changing stances in any fight but he did in this one and really had to. His lead leg was getting blasted.
I use to love boxing when I was young but stopped watching it because I thought it was too crooked to enjoy. I really hope the UFC doesn't get that way.
