i thought it was an okay night of fight and nothing more. Hathaway fight was okay nothing special. the Duffy fight was terrible and one punch don't make a fight. I just aint into two guys who really shouldn't call themselves fighters slugging it out. I guess that is the boxin in me where guys are actually fighters. Nog fight by far i thought was the best of the night csuse both guys have more than one skill. Title fight had to be stopped 15 times or that would have been the most boring of them all. Bisping Miller who thought that would ever be a good fight? Two guys one with no power and the other a total idiot having a 15 minute sparring match. Sadollah Kim i felt like i took five ambiens watching that borefest and i hope i never see Kim fight again. Boy i can't belive i took Cain a couple of cards ago over Nog. Cain must have beat a lot of stiff on the way because he is a step higher than a stiff and made Nog look very overrated his last fight. Again im just not into two guys fighting with limited talent. Some guys are and some are not. I like watchin talent and not two bar room brawlers where anyone can win at any given minute. It is exciting the first time but that is about it for me.

rampage is in danger of becoming houston alexander....he`s got wrestling ability...just doesn`t use it...it`s either discombobulate an opponent ot nothing....

evolve quinton...the persona can only carry you so far when folks are no lnger intimidated and you start losing on a regular basis...

cmon Weasy cut Rampage a break. He fought what is the number one contender right now. Houston alexander is a big stretch :mj07:

Ended up going 8-2 after throwing in a few props

Card was good. Can't believe the Nog/Brilz decision. Event though I had money on Nog I just don't see how he won. I'm not sure if it was Nog looking bad or brilz being better than I expected.

When Rampage dropped Rashad he did not connect cleanly with those first few follow up shots. If he did it would have been over. Enjoyed the fight. I do think Rashad matches up terribly with Shogun though.

Wow is all I can say regarding Russow.:scared

Melvin has hard body shots!

How did this card suck?

Lil Nog v. Brilz was a huge surprise. Always exciting to see someone expected to get killed show up and challenge for a win (he was robbed).

Diego v. John H. was a great fight.

Duffee v. Russow is one that will be talked about for years.

That is the three leading up to the Co-Main Events. If that isn't good enough, I don't know what you are looking for. Great job by Joe Silva. He gave us guys to look for in the future (Hathaway, Brilz, Russow).

Well, I was in a bar drinking, so maybe my judgment was clouded. :142smilie It wasn't just me though, there were so many boos coming from that bar I thought I was on the mound at Yankee Stadium for a second.

And it's not that those dudes didn't fight well, I just wouldn't call them exciting fights. Well, scratch that, the Russow fight had an exciting ending. Seriously though, if I went back and watched the card sober I may not be so critical.

Brilz fight was impressive but not exactly an edge of your seat fight.
Diego was far from a great fight because Diego got beat down. Always fun to see Diego get beat down but great fight means Diego did something.
Duffee picked Russow apart up until the KO and it was one sided and boring.
And Rampage did not live up to his own hype AT ALL

Those are just my thoughts.
The card didn't suck but it was far from spectacular.

It is always a good card when you see Diego get owned.

But can't be a great card unless there are Canucks on it.

i agree with gmro....i thought it was borderline spectacular ppv....

1st fight...big upset...newcomer dominates an established, top tier guy...his only losses were top of the food chain guys...wins over diaz/parisyan/florian...

the brilz /lil` nog fight was amazing...back and forth...ebb and flo..drama...controversy....nobody had a clue what was happening next....a guy came out of nowhere to "beat" lil nog...and got screwed....

the russow upset was something the likes of which we may never ever see again...somebody being totally dominated, beaten and literally embarrassed...then pulling a victory out of their ass...

bisping/miller was admittedly a snoozer...i would have figured this was the one that was going be a competitive dogfight....miller may have written a one way ticket out of the ufc for himself with that dreadful, stupid performancet

`page got embarrassed...after all the talk...the "he dead" b.s....the woofing...the mouth wrote a ticket the ass couldn`t cash....and all the idiot fans rooting for the bully went home sad.....boo hoo....:0002

guess it depends on one`s perspective.....i loved it...exceeded my expectations....the russow punch is already the stuff of legend that will be discussed for years to come...

btw...happy memorial weekend to the americans on the board...and just plain"have a nice weekend" to our international brothers.... :0074

I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer, but is that hyperbole I detect in the Wease's post? :142smilie

I have to agree with Kegray. The Russow fight had a great ending, but up until that point I just didn't think it was anything great. Duffe was pretty much having his way, but it's not like he was putting on a clinic that had people on the edge of their seats or anything. At the time of the knockout I was just glad it was finally over so they could get on to the next fight.

Some of those fights I really didn't have a rooting interest either way -- I just wanted to see a good, exciting fight. I guess I'm more interested in the fight itself than the outcome on a lot of the fights. That probably puts me in the minority, but whatevs.

Happy Memorial Day to you as well, Monsieur Weasel. :0008

Diego is no longer top tier and moving up a weight class didn't help his cause any.

Nicely said. I was starting to think I was the crazy one. I don't know what these guys want.

Duffee getting KO'd after dominating for 2 rounds was incredible. Saying it was boring until the end makes no sense to me. I was on the edge of my seat because those shots Russow took were enough to drop most guys in the heavyweight class, if not all, and I was ready to see the one that would finally finish him.....then he finishes Duffee with a crazy punch. The Rocky IV fights were more believable than this one.

Diego no longer top tier? Did last night have anything to do with it? Now we have a new "proven" undefeated fighter to look for in Hathaway. Any time a favorite gets beaten up for three rounds, you've got to enjoy it.

A "nobody" almost submitted an elite BJJ fighter. If Brilz finishes that choke (which he almost did) that is headline news.

I guess I don't get what you guys want. I think people would rather see these shitty Strikeforce events with big names and no substance. The great thing about the UFC is that their belts mean something because they make the guys fight their way into contention. You don't fight for the title after a loss, you don't hold the belt dormant for 2 years while you fight overseas in other orgs, and you don't make your org debut in a title fight. Superfights are over rated because they rarely live up to the hype.

Diego has not had a quality win in almost 5 years.
He beat Joe Daddy but Joe Daddy has had some issues of late as well.
Beating Clay Guida never impresses me.
He has been dominated in his last 2 fights although one was Penn and last night was a weight jump.
The only other guys he has fought of quality since '06 were Fitch and Kos and he lost both.
Diego is still quality fighter but top tier is pushing it.
Which top tier weight is he because I can name a ton of 170 guys he can't beat and there are a number of 155's he can't beat as well.

I guess he is still top tier if your tier is 10 deep at each weight class.
My top tier is about 5 deep.

I don't like the guy, but his last fight was for the Lightweight title. He beat two contenders on his way to that fight. While I don't think he is one of the best fighters in the world, he is a name fighter that has fought for a title in the last year. He's in WAY over his head at 170. At 155, he is one of the top guys. I don't know how you can argue against it.

Personally, I could care less about 'big name' fights. I just wanted to see some entertaining fights. The fight I was most looking forward to last night was Evans/Rampage, but it had nothing to do with their star quality. It was due to the fact that I assumed they genuinely hated each other, which would logically result in some good fireworks. Unfortunately, there were little fireworks to be seen in that one, IMO.

I guess I'll have to go back and watch the fight over again when I get a chance. All I know is I wasn't real impressed last night, and I thought the villagers were going to burn down the bar I was at because they were so unimpressed. Again though, alcohol has been known to cloud the judgment from time to time. :SIB

At 155 I can name 5 UFC guys that are clearly better than him:
Edgar, Penn, Sotiropoulos, Kenflo, Maynard

I am sure there are a few more and if you want to wander outside of the UFC then I can think of easily 5 or 6 more.

Like I said he is still a quality fighter(at 155 at least) but top tier is pushing it. If he is top tier then he is the last guy in.
He got his shot at Penn but it was not deserved. All the above guys deserved it more than Diego when he got it and Edgar proved it. He was handed that chance not because he earned it.
He beat Clay Guida. Big deal.

The point was if the card sucked or not.
My lean was middle of the road.
Nog fight was entertaining.
Shock factor in the Russow fight.
Kim fight was BORING as hell.
Bisping was a typical Bisping fight and very predictable result once it was clear the wrestler didn't want to wrestle.
Rampage was all hype with a couple big shots but nothing else.

So-so card in my opinion. Have seen worse cards, have seen better.

the 1st list with sanchez at 26 was absurd...he`s already beaten parisyan and nick diaz....
chris lytle and nathan diaz?...and a slew of non-wrestlers that would likely end up on their backs for 9 minutes...

and the second list you posted listed sotiropoulos(who the hell has HE beaten).....and kenflo, who was literally trounced by sanchez....

you`re reaching,brother...

You keep hanging on the Kenflo match but lets be real here. Ken Flo was a shell of himself back then. Kenflo destroyed Guida and Deigo barely got by him. That is what is happening now not back 10 years ago. Finally someone exposed Diego and that was Penn. That is why i was so high on Hathaway. Like Penn siad " Only thing Diego got going for him is his strong will".

I wish I would have know that Diabate was a southpaw. I picked up in Canes last fight that he was having MAJOR difficulties with the southpaw stance. He simply could not see that straight left being thrown at all, which is why he kept getting tagged flush by Nog. Then they match him up with a lanky southpaw known for his striking.

As I watched the fight I was curious to see if he'd learned anything or went back to his old ways. He did catch Cyrille cold early and nearly ended it but once it got back on the feet he didnt do much and it ended the same way as before.

I still think highly of Cane and would most likely even back him if he fights someone with a traditional stance.
