ok..... for the first pick of UFC 85:

Brandon Vera -120 (2.5 units)

tough matchup but i like this pick... ive been studying a lot of Werdum's past fights and i just dont think he has the tools to beat a hungry Vera. more than anything i think Werdum's takedown skills are poor... and the fight needs to be on the ground for him to have a chance IMO. also, ive noticed that he keeps it standing at the beginning of nearly all his fights/rounds. this will be a bad strategy against Brandon Vera and i dont think he'll make the necessary adjustments. Vera by TKO by mid 2nd.

Vera should be very hungry indeed...should be a good fight...think the odds are right where they should be:SIB

and despite all the crazy fight changes...it does look like a good card:SIB

i think the edge is in favor of Vera.... oh yea! thats why I bet on him :mj07:

i think Werdum will be limpin after three or four leg kicks... i highly respect him as a submission artist, but dont think he can put it on the ground... and if it does hit the ground ill take my chances on Vera's solid submission defense.

sometimes ya just gotta take a shot on the close ones...

obviously ya gotta get Bisping on the card (his hometown) maybe it is time to do something drastic and have him fight one of these guys:

Frank Trigg
Richardo Almeida
Kala Kolohe Hose

Yes I know none of these guys are UFC dudes, but with UFC cutting guys like crazy maybe it is time to bring in somebody new.....Trigg is a "free agent" and has been pissed off with DREAM so why not bring him back to UFC:shrug: The division is by far the weakest, might be time for drastic measures...and I think this is perfect timing:shrug: As I said, ya gotta get Bisping on there somehow:SIB

Also....I may be wrong but I think Cung Le is in contract negotiations with Elite.....why not snag him up. Him vs Bisping would be awsome. But yes I know I know.....way easier said then done, but hey why not:shrug:

And doesn't Quarry deserve a shot after that Kalib disaster:shrug:

yea the card dried up a little w/o Leben. hes always a blast to watch.

i think they need to get Hendo back in the picture ASAP since he is one of their marquee guys at 185, but they may be saving him for another card. and they couldnt have him fight Bisping b/c he may kill him. literally. :142smilie :142smilie

Bisping and Quarry could make for a decent fight, though. and i know Quarry must feel like he had the night off last time out. :mj07:

MATT LINDLAND is another the UFC should pick up. NOW. they r in desperate need for challengers at 185 and Dana White refuses to talk to Lindland  ... what an idiot. he says he wants top talent and Lindland wants back in the UFC and White wont even consider it. :nono: what a hypocrite.

Lindland even said he would fight his buddy DAN HENDERSON if it came down to it.. they have already wrestled in competition three or four times.. what a brawl that would be.

White is just being a baby. Lindland had a squeaky close decision against Rampage and that could make for an insane rematch in the future as well..

Also, Roy Jones Jr. called White "a little baby" for not allowing him to box Anderson Silva.. :142smilie I agree.

I agree with you about Lindland.....lotta bad blood there though....as for Roy Jones issue...I am on Dana's side with that one:SIB

Maybe Dana will read this thread and get Bisping to fight one of our suggestions:142smilie

Well its not like Anderson has anyone left to fight right now in the UFC :142smilie .. and the match was going to be well into the future.. Anderson wanted a good 6-8 months to train under the rules of boxing.

Roy has said he wouldnt be caught dead in a cage w/ Anderson (under MMA rules).. we all know how that would turn out... but a solid performance from Anderson in a boxing match would only help MMA imo.

doesnt matter cuz it wont happen. :(

Some more lines have come out and this is what I have bet so far.

Mike Swick -115 I just think he has more overall skill than Davis.

Nate Marquardt -150 Nate is very well rounded if a little boring.

Ricardo Almeida +125 TO THE LIMIT!! I will keep hitting this, to the limit, as often as there are plus odds. I like Cote but I can't believe he is favoured. Almeida is a beast.

Tavares/Chonan/Bisping parlay. I will not be surprised to lose this but it is worth the gamble to almost double up.

The odds have not come out yet but if they are favourable I will bet Martin Kampmann to beat Jorge Rivera.

Good luck all!!!

Kick what book are these odds from??

You dont have to answer that if u dont want to, of course..... just wonderin' cuz im scouting for new MMA books. :SIB

Anyone else that has experience w/ various MMA books (out of the preferred sportsbooks listed here at MadJack) ur recommendations would be much appreciated...?? ive heard nothing but good things about 5 dimes so far...

My lines for UFC 85 are junk compared to these! ALL the dogs listed above i'm getting funked on...

Early picks...

Early picks...

...more to be added.

Marcus Davis (-115) : 3 units (maybe more :brows:)

oh boy this feels like a real steal to me. Think Davis eats Swick up within two rounds. Davis has been KOd only once (as a boxer) having been in the game (both as a boxer/MMAer) about 14 years and dont think Swick can take him down. Feel like Davis' training at Sityodtong Muay Thai will come in handy having sparred w/ people of similar body type as Swick (Murilo Rua, Jorge Rivera, even Florian though hes a bit smaller). After looking weak in his first fight at 170, i think Swick feels like hes back in the 185 lb. division once the bell rings...

Jason Day (+260) : 1 unit

consider this more of a value bet b/c i havent seen much of Day... however, he looked very solid both on his feet and on the ground against Belcher w/ a dangerous guard and some wicked elbows... if Day presses the action i think he has a decent shot against a very beatable Michael Bisping (IMO)... i know that UK crowd will be bumpin', but Day seems to have a very calm demeanor (and nothing to lose)...

...more or less a strategic investment on my part... McCarthy looked so poor last time out that i cant give Bisping much credit for that victory.
