.... who the heck is this guy??

Luiz Cane to replace James Irvin b/c of a broken foot... i was really looking forward to that matchup.

http://mmajunkie.com/news/4384/luiz-cane-replaces-james-irvin-at-ufc-85.mma

Cane is actually pretty good. He is better than Irvin. He was handing Irvin his arse in their fight but threw a VERY, VERY light knee while Irvin had one knee down. Irvin acted like he had been shot and Cane was DQ'd. I lost a shit load of respect for Irvin after that fight. He was taking the worst of a pretty good slug out and took the easy way out. :nono:

Wow. I didnt know his only loss was by DQ.. and was doing well against Irvin u say??

More i think of it i do recognize the name... hope he can bring it to Evans... initially i thought Irvin's injury hurt the card a good bit.

I have no problem w/ Evans... just not too impressed w/ his strength of schedule/past opponents... wanted to see how he would do against a guy who cracks hard like Irvin does.... sounds like Cane will be a better replacement than i thought.

P.S. Sure hope they broadcast Marquardt/Leites because to me this is one of the best matchups on the card... right now it is listed as "may not be broadcast" on UFC.com... they always keep me guessing :nono:

I think we're both happy to hear that the UFC 85 card is final!!!

http://mmamania.com/2008/05/21/ufc-85-card-final-rashad-evans-will-not-fight/

Just do what u can to pump him up again :mj07:

Actually, id like to know more about his gameplan going into this fight... Bisping always wants to keep it standing, but few of his opponent have tried to make it a ground fight... even McCarthy almost locked in an arm bar against him....

... maybe u could request a submission victory from Day :) that way Cecil Peoples wont have a chance to give another decision to Bisping :142smilie

... if Day wont fulfill my submission wishes then Damian Maia will if he ever gets to fight Bisping :)

I like Roan over Ryo. Roan easily outwrestled Ryo in their previous fight, however, the ref kept inappropriately standing them up and Ryo landed a knee during one of the late stand ups and gave him a cut.

Some more lines have come out and this is what I have bet so far.

Mike Swick -115 I just think he has more overall skill than Davis.

Nate Marquardt -150 Nate is very well rounded if a little boring.

Ricardo Almeida +125 TO THE LIMIT!! I will keep hitting this, to the limit, as often as there are plus odds. I like Cote but I can't believe he is favoured. Almeida is a beast.

Tavares/Chonan/Bisping parlay. I will not be surprised to lose this but it is worth the gamble to almost double up.

The odds have not come out yet but if they are favourable I will bet Martin Kampmann to beat Jorge Rivera.

Good luck all!!!

Well, I think Davis should be next in line for a WW title shot if he wins. I really like this guy, late bloomer or not, I think he's the real deal.

As far as not beliving Cote is favored. It's simply because he's been on a tear and kicking ass. I've doubted him, but the dude has stepped it up. I'm not betting on this fight.

Also, a very smart move for Evans to not fight Cane. Evans is in the position to fight guys to help him climb up the ladder. Losing to Cane would demolish his position, and by winning he'd barely move up, if any at all.

This is very difference in comparison to what Karo was doing.

I agree w/ u 100%, BUCS... woulda been a stupid fight for Evans and glad he/UFC had the brains to drop him from the card altogether. Hope Liddell is recovering well and poor Rashad can get himself a fight soon.... he really got the run-around w/ two of his opponents getting injured.

Muhr, i also like Roan to take this fight... he is one of my plays at UFC 85... odds had gotten worse on him by the time i made my play, but that is what i get for waiting it out... bad decision on my part... i totally saw that coming.

That's an interesting fight that I wouldn't bet on. Honestly, I still like Chonan in the fight, but, I'm not fully behind the pick.

I have gone pretty big on Swick and Chonan.

I am really regretting the Chonan pick. I forgot that they had a fight a couple of years ago and Roan was winning until a last minute cut.
Since their first fight, Roan has improved by leaps and bounds but Chonan seems to be slipping. If the odds get better before the fight, I will buy my Chonan bet back.

Good luck all.

ok....I am not making this up......MORE CHANGES to the fight card:142smilie

I mean how happy will Dana White be when this card is done.....talk about a nightmare.....:scared

so it now looks like this..........

Thiago Alves vs. Matt Hughes
Michael Bisping vs. Jason Day
Marcus Davis vs. Mike Swick
Thales Leites vs. Nate Marquardt
Brandon Vera vs. Fabricio Werdum
Martin Kampmann vs. Jorge Rivera
Thiago Tavares vs. Matt Wiman
Luiz Cane vs. Jason Lambert
Kevin Burns vs. Roan Carneiro
Jess Liaudin vs. Paul Taylor
Eddie Sanchez vs. Antoni Hardonk

Ya have to give some credit to all the UFC fighters that are "stepping up" in the last minute to fight, kudos to them. Also, despite the 100 changes, there actually are some good fights on the card. Plus I can't wait for the Bisping/Day fight....I'd pay just to watch that one:scared

For winners I like Eddie Sanchez and Nate Marquardt.

I think Hughes at -220 is a ****ing STEAL. Since when has Hughes lost to someone not named GSP? Penn in '03? In the rematch Penn got his worst beating EVER (prompting him to drop to a lower weightclass). Im gonna be honest, I've never been a Hughes fan -I've always been more fans of Trigg, Penn and Carlos Newton at welterweight (combined record of 1-5 against Matt) but from a moneymaking standpoint I dont see Hughes losing in a 3 rounder against this guy.
