I just watched it Kick. Give GSP this advice. Throw hooks everytime Shields throws a kick. Man does he drop his hands low when he throws a Kick. Right kick left hook. GSP has to see this.

it will be very interesting to see how this unfolds...

gsp will have a huge advanytage on their feet....shields may well be thee worst striker in mma...at least as far as legit contenders go.....

but his grappling is probably top 2 or 3.....very curious to see how this shakes out once it hits the ground...if it hits the ground....i suspect that an athlete like gsp will be difficult to take down if he wants to stand...

i can see taking a shot at shields...i may...not sure...but i think that gsp has huge advantages in strking and cardio...shields tends to gas a bit...

i hope we get to see the two grapple early...i`m sure it will be seriously high level stuff...

Gsp will do the same thing JOnes did to Badar. Take him down in the first 30 seconds. that is what the elite Jackson guys do. Unfortunately for GSP Shields is crafty and won't fold up like and old used tent like Badar did with Jones.
Still can't believe Badar tried to pull guard. Looks like one of the rare times GSP is gonna go in with a size disadvantage. shields better get him early or GSP will start picking him apart at the end of round three. No wager for me tho. To high a risk for a guy fighting someone who has won 15 straight.

bucs will say GSp is the 876th ranked fighter in the world and that GSP is the scum of the earth.

:142smilie

He will also say Shogun was close to beating Jones:142smilie

this is what i`m curious to see....st pierre has out-grappled everybody of late...but shields has been out-grappling guys for years....

and some of it at 185 to boot...

i hope it goes to the ground from the jump...i know everybody hopes for violent action....but for this one,i want to see two top level grapplers doing what they do best....

I agree. For me, if this thing stays standing then we're in for a very boring fight. If it goes down though, we're going to get to see what could be an all time great ground battle.

jake reminds me of jeff monson, great grappling and particularly good at ground control, however, their takedown abilities are lacking.

i don't put much stock into jake's takedowns on henderson. dan had no sprawl that fight. pretty much every other fight has demonstrated his poor takedowns.

GSP keeps it standing, and he wins.

Shields takes it to the ground, he wins.

I think the fight is pretty much that simple.

GSP has never fought a fighter with the legit MMA ground skills that Shields has. On top of for once, being undersized.

Shields stand up is weak, and GSP is a clear favorite in that department.

I think GSP controls it standing or on the ground. Shields grappling is not much different than Fitch and remember what GSP did to him. Plus GSP is a sick maniac who has only been training and getting better since then.

I think it will be domination IMO. I still see value in GSP even at the number it's been bet up to now.

Think about how shocked you would be just to see GSP on his back, let alone in side control. Plus, Shields takedowns have already been questioned in this thread (and rightly so).

IMO Shields doesn't even have a punchers chance in this one.

You are way off. Fitch is a wrestler that has grappling. Shields is a wrestler that is an ELITE grappler.

ashamed shields never developed better stand-up(but maybe it`s just not physiologically possible...he just can`t generate any power)....someone somewhere else mentioned that shields gasses aoccasionally because he has no stand-up...meaning that he goes for a single leg takedown, and if he can`t get it,he keeps holding on to it.....if you`re holding a guy trying for a takedown and it ain`t happening, that`s a lot of juice you`re expending....very tiring...

if he had a little more confidence in his stand-up,i doubt he`d hang onto failed takedowns like a drowning man to a life preserver...

just an opinion...i hope gsp grapples early....curious to see who gets the better of it...but gsp is smart...i doubt he`s going to the ground until shields is out of gas...

should be interesting...

I meant to say that their styles are almost identical

Btw how is fitch not an elite grappler?
Fitch is a grinder. Jake is great with subs and is very dangerous in a ground fight.
I feel Jake can finish a ground fight at any time if given an opportunity, I don't feel the same about Fitch.
I think Fitch would be worse to fight as he grinds, cuts, mauls and beats you up.
I think Sheilds is the far more dangerous ground fighter, especially when he's fresh.

GSP better stay away from the ground for the first 2 rounds or he could be in deep shit, after that, Jake will start to run out of steam.
