now mayhem miller is a joke?...he`s a clown...but he`s damned good...not to mention he`s fighting at 185....

No one is saying he is a joke, we can all agree he is "solid", but he isn't top 10 in his division.

The only two people who shields fought in his life that were a solid top 10 are okami/hendo.

So I don't get why a resume full of mid tier fighters should be impressive. He didn't even fight the best in the strikeforce 185 divison, jacare would have been a decent fight. Why do you think the UFC made him cut? Anyone UFC top 10 middleweight would have killed shields. Think marquardt, okami, sonnen, even bisping man.

Its all bullshit to hype the fight. I was watching the first episode of this on youtube and in the first few minutes Shield's trainer says "If jake gets on top of you, you are not getting up".

I thought to myself :facepalm: ok, unless you are kampan, or okami, or mayhem miller, or paul daley, or anybody he has fought, lol.

Next ceasar gracie said "god forbid if he gets gsp to the ground because it will be a short night for him"

Well Shields has got alot of people to the ground but it was never a "short" night for any of them lol. Even paul daley made it to the second round after he just lay there and shields was unable to lock in of his his many "elite' armbar attempts. But, I mean, god forbid if he gets gsp down, he might kill him!!

Third, in episode 2 Shields says something along the lines of "gsp has been in the spotlight but my fights have been just as tough."

Ok, gsp was fighting for the UFC title back in 2004 against the best in the world and he has been since then. But i guess shields epic battles with Ray Steinbeiss, and Steve Berger at "FCP: Malice at Cow Palace" somehow compared to that. i was looking for footage of the berger fight but could find none. i wonder if it was even videotaped, maybe there is a cell phone recording by shields mom just like the grappling competition.

I know people have to hype the fight, but all of those above statements are total lies, utter bullshit. Its like "the emporers new clothes", everyone keeps saying shields is a grappling expert, but all we see is mediocre grappling in the fights. The only thing they can even hype him on is that fitch video (sad I know) and his "paper" record.

Man, his highlight video is laughable. The most impressive thing he did in his career was reverse jon fitch in a grappling comp over 5 years ago, and his guillotine on lawler. That is the sum total of his mma career. You could make a more impressive highlight video of him getting taken down and beat up by okami, kampman putting on a hip escape clinic, or frigging mayhem miller suplexing him and choking him out. :facepalm:

I agree. Shields has struggled big time against anyone that can stuff his takedowns.

Shields isnt even the legit top contender at 170. The title eliminater fight with kampman was bogus, kampman was coming off two wins against volkman :facepalm: and paulo thiago. Fitch was riding a four fight win streak at the time including a win over thiago. Plus kampman had already lost one title eliminater in the time since fitch fought gsp

But Fitch had already lost to gsp and he puts on really boring fights, so instead of giving him a fair shot at #1 contender they give it kampman figuring it would be an easy tune up fight for shields where they could hype him for the gsp fight. And then he almost lost that:facepalm:

..shields has wins...his highlights are 15 wins in a row ..his grappling and jits are so mediocre that they`ve earned him wins over guys like henderson,okami,condit,kampmann,miller,mike pyle......

he has no stand-up....and he hasn`t maced anybody in the ring...so, the excuses are as lame as your rationale... as far as his grappling is concerned,you obviously don`t know jack...

so by your own measurement,shields`resume is right in the ballpark as far as current contenders are concerned(gsp`s should be..he`s been ufc champ for years)..

gsp is a great fighter...i think he wins here...but he`s fighting a guy that`s pretty big at 170...a guy who most objective observers believe is the equal(if not the better) pure grappler....but,gsp has a much more well rounded game,more raw athleticism....

and gsp has better cardio in what may be a long fight... and homecourt(which is huge)...

honestly,you guys have lost me with all the shields disrespect....i`m guessing you`re playing contrarian ..or just throwing ridiculous crap up against the wall to see what sticks.......shields belongs in there...

yes,gsp deserves to be favored...but shields is worthy...how many more times can you fight koscheck/penn and methusaleh(hughes).....hardy and serra?......

I don't know why you think Im not being objective. I just had no idea why people were so high on him. I even went back and watched the fights and man he is a bum and a half.

Strikeforce brought hendo in and they thought he would mop the floor with shields, the whole thing was a hendo love fest. As soon as hendo started losing they got word on their headset that shields was the new grappling god (because they had to promote their champion)

It the same thing as when hardy's left all of a sudden became "nasty' and he was a dangerous fighter with nothing to lose.

What do you expect the MMA Media to say? It's all hype man.

The only way Shields has a chance is if GSP is tired of the Silva talk and rolls right into a choke to end the talk. I doubt if this happens but i saw a fed up Matt Hughes basically do it against BJ Penn and lose his title. After the match Hughes said "let someone else deal with the title?' Now if GSP wants to win Shields is gonna get smashed. Serra had no offensive game (Black Belt) at all against GSP. BJ Penn (black belt and world champion)absolutely no offense from BJ when BJ was on the bottom. Now like Cesar
Gracie says there are different levels of black belts. Is Shields better then BJ? I doubt it. How is Shields gonna take GSP down? He has terrible take-downs. This might be the easiest fight for GSP since Dan Hardy if GSP fights smart. Only hope Shields has is when he gets takin down he throws a quick guillotine. If not he gets smashed.
