Thats basically right DTB.

I lived in New Zealand for most of my life and the three of us all lived within about 5 mins of each other. Len is my brother in law and Gav is my best mate.

I moved to Australia in 1998 (much warmer over here) but still keep in fairly close contact with them on MSN.

By the way I must warn you not to believe a word they say about my behaviour on the golf course !!

The point that I was trying to make was that the course has been lengthened by just 143 yards over the 1981 course. Yes, it is long for a par-70 course, but modern technology can overcome much more than that 143 yards. Nelson was certainly not a long-hitter.

I think from what the players are complaining about only proves the point that Rees Jones was trying to make whenhe re-designed the course. "I think the fourth hole at Brookline is one of the greatest holes in golf," Jones said Monday. "But it doesn't get much press because it's not the 18th hole." "You want to lead into the round and build to a crescendo," Jones said. "I think all four of those holes are quite a finish." Because the players face increasingly long shots into the greens at the end of their rounds, that is what they remember. The rest of the course is tough, but no longer than a TPC course.

The big-hitters advantage is limited by the rough, which according to Langer, "most of the time you are not going to be able to hit more than an 8 or 9-iron out of the rough", and the lack of par-fives. It gives the event a more balanced challenge than the Masters or the US Open IMO.

Of course, I'm only going off reports in the media. We'll know much more when dawgball returns from the course tonight

Yes, Simon Bold certainly do not have a golf "expert"

More than an occasional very weak line and can't even get the field right most weeks - they have a matchup between Bob Estes and Aaron Baddeley this week!

However, there is a cost. See shanker's thread

Notes....for the first time in a major players will start off both nines in the first 2 rounds.Loren Roberts commented that he was hopeful officials may decide to use the forward tees by thursday's opening. Also to compensate for the length, the first cut of rough is wider than normal on 18. Billy Andrade said "They gave us some extra room both left and right. They made a very difficult last hole a little less difficult. If they didn't give us that room, it would be really impossible." Charles Howell feels accuracy is still the key,"This is Bermuda rough, which is not easy to play out of.The ball sits down in the bottom of it,and you are going to have a hard time hacking it onto the green from 170-180 yards out.

Generally narrowing the field down to 3 or 4 outright selections is not that difficult but it has been tough going with this event. I had 9 players that I was considering but after weighing up the "value" factor here are my plays:

David Duval 13-1 with Five Dimes
Jim Furyk 50-1 with Victor Chandler
Thomas Bjorn 60-1 with Five Dimes
Chris Di Marco 66-1 with Sportingoods
Scott Hoch 80-1 with Ladbrokes

The players I left out were Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Vijah Singh, and Justin Leonard.

Back with matchups later once Camelot post their lines.

Outrights to place only @ Oly
Mayfair 25/1
Calc 25/1
Langer 15/1
Zinger 15/1

Thats one more selection than I'd like but considering odds would add a 5th if it was qualifier. These qualified on criteria of making cut in every major they played this year with at least one top 5 in same @ 15/1 or greater odds for place..May be making mistake but putting less value on prior PGA Championship history and more on current major history considering most not familiar with course.

Clarke in top 30 in 3 previous majors this year while Bjorn managed only 1 cut.

Duval +155 over Tiger
Tiger has been in cautious mode in 1st round of majors and form is suspect.

Yes, it's just win-only at BetandWin
rolleyes.gif

They were the ones that gave Ian the following prices for the US Open:

Calcavecchia 200-1
Weir 200-1
Cabrera 200-1
Verplank 300-1
Cink 400-1

Pretty clear why they needed another golf guy to set their lines

Seeing I'm on a serious Major roll - one outright winner in a row
rolleyes.gif
- I'll have another crack here.

However, as I'm not related to Cartman or Turtle - but did have grandparents from the holy gambling town of Levin
biggrin.gif
- I would disregard these plays as the work of a novice.

Outrights:

Tiger 3-1 x 2.5 units
Duval 14-1 x 1 unit
Vijay 18-1 x 1 unit
Phat Phil 18-1 x 1 unit

Will also be playing a host of match-ups as recommended by the mighty forum

Prop plays:

My favorite part about major weeks ... cut props. There may be 25 Club Professionals in this 150-man field, but it also boasts the highest number (97) of players in the top-100 of the World Rankings for quite some time. Making the top-70 and the weekend could be quite a challenge in this company.

Players to miss the cut:

John Daly +105 @ BetInternet [3 units]
Robert Damron -133 @ Centrebet [3 units]
Joe Durant +135 @ BetInternet [2 units]
Pierre Fulke -154 @ Centrebet
David Gossett +115 @ BetInternet [3 units]
John Huston +100 @ BetInternet [2 units]
Lee Janzen -125 @ Centrebet
Nick O'Hern -118 @ Centrebet
Jose Maria Olazabal +125 @ BetInternet [2 units]
Mark O'Meara -154 @ Centrebet
Ian Poulter -143 @ Centrebet [2 units]
Brett Quigley -150 @ Centrebet [2 units]
Rory Sabbatini -125 @ Centrebet [2 units]

======

Typo: Quigley was -125!

I get green with envy when I see these miss the cut props Stan.Got a handful of top 10 players @ Wsex and thats it so far.#$%^%#@
Question on matchup involving Euro player I am not that familiar with but appears to be playing well. What chance would you deem Oldcorn has vs Quigley. They have him listed at +170 @ Wsex?
Have to give ole K Perry a little action this week and will do so on interactive @ Wsex with 5 shares @ $2 each.

Adding a these:
Verplank -115 to beat Faxon
Herron -115 to beat Franco
Both at Camelot

DTB one day Gav and I may start a thread on Cartman 88's behavour on the golf course, I am sure it would shock you,to say he is competitive would be an understatement and some of his exploits would amuse everyone I am sure.
Anders dont be so modest! Your League and rugby is awesome so I am sure your golf will be the same.
