Joker asked a question the other day of someone on here in the health industry who had said it looks inevitable that everyone will be infected before its all said and done,,,,,,Given that angle does it matter what we do? or are we hoping against hope that a cure will be found? IF,,IF,,IF,,,the health experts tell you that you cannot avoid,,you will be infected,,do we go back to normal life and just say when it hits me it hits me and hopefully ill recover? Is it like russian roulette?

I agree with that,,I posted earlier the health institute said alabama would have over 5000 deaths,,now they are requoting that number to 450,,,I hope that number gets even lower,,appears what we are doing is working,,,Hopefully it will get lower quicker than it went higher,,,

No telling the number that have already had it. Goal as I see it is not keeping people from getting it necessarily, simply spreading the infections out so that they can be treated properly. There will be a second(and third) wave, as long as there are proper resources for the number infected at that time the goal of the current quarantine will have been met. IMO we will begin returning to the "new normal" by July, with staggered openings up to that point.

That's the flattening of the curve we hear about.

Yep, should have put that in there as I don' think that is breaking news. Guess my point was the hysteria of "getting it" has overshadowed the overall point of staying home and it being the when not the if!

2 new babies[ 3 and 2 years old] and all the family were due to come in June..Beach and pool.

I made it very clear to the wife..Not until they can't kill me and I can't infect them.

Get busy world ...solve the problem.

yet today I see my friends and neighbors gather in bunches.

It's real to some...others not so much.

No doubt they were, as it is more real to some than others, and the numbers say as much. Not saying I agree with them as my family has and will be staying at home, but it is easy to see why younger people in general are not taking this nearly as seriously as older people. Have no idea why anyone older would choose to be gathered at this point.

We still months away from the course run of China's experience, and they've had second waves and cluster outbreaks with their recent (limited) roll back of restrictions. ..causing some lockdowns to be reinposed .... The countries highlighted in blue locked down early.

Also note that experts agree the number of Covid-19 deaths is undercounted, due to testing problems and medical/regulatory challenges in attribution of cause - thus, the actual Covid-19 deaths is higher than the numbers here reported.

I hope soon.

Kids are having to go to online learning as this is the new "norm" in education.

I think Memorial Day weekend is a realistic target for having most local services/restaurants/retail stores/malls back open again for areas with little to no new cases, which *hopefully* will be most of the country by then. Lifting travel restrictions and holding concerts/sporting events are another matter. I don't think it will take all the way until we have a vaccine but probably will take until we have some confirmed very effective treatment.

I am not a medical professional, but I think about this in terms of comparing it to strep throat (even though that's a bacterial infection instead of viral). Without antibiotics, that's an infection that can cause horrible problems up to and including death. But with antibiotics it's no big deal at all - you go to the doctor and get tested and they start you on the meds right away while you await results. Either way - you're fine again in a week. That's the level we'll need to get this to in order to feel good again about mass gatherings.

My biggest worry is things getting opened up too early and having the numbers explode again and the government trying to shut things down all over again on a mass scale. Our essential service personnel are certainly burning the candles at both ends right now just trying to get through this. If Round 2 kicks in as hard (or harder) than this one after only a short break of a couple weeks, I don't think they'll be able to do it again. And of course - as already alluded to - right now many people are just barely scraping by on meager savings or maxing out the credit cards. Those people will not have the resources to go through another multi-month shutdown and I'm not sure the government is currently set-up to provide necessities on that type of scale. So the risk of total economic collapse starts to be a lot more real in that case.

When does life start back?

Governor Abbott just announced schools will remain closed for the rest of the school year. I just relayed this information to my two kids. They are not happy with this news and neither am I.

It's not about academics anymore but rather emotional development. Kids need to be with other kids!
