AV, yes Olympic (sometimes) and Centrebet and SportsTab always allow the place only bet on the first four place @ 1/4 odds. There is one book that does offer place-only bets on the first five places: Paddy Power. But unlike their e/w bets, this is @ 1/5 odds so the extra place is attractive, but the 1/5 odds cancels it out.

Might be something I want to review at the end of the season, but I think I have done better making e/w plays rather than I would have done had I made place-only plays on the first five had they been available. This would definitely be true for the European Tour, maybe not for the PGA Tour. But either way, I do like the return on my outright bets to increase substantially if my pick wins the event. It makes watching the event more exicting

Paddy (we can't be bothered organising you to bet with us) Power) eh?

Ok, 1/5 place only first 5, guess ok if the odds are right there.

How many years you been doing the back the tournament winner thing? (and have records?

)

Might be worth looking at I guess, but if you are doing e/w I guess more price variety, but got to be a reason why most bookmakers dont do it? Like the extra book balance from win money or losers from that?

But if Centrebet and a multi-billion dollar corporation happy to do it, then not sure that holds.

Only have records for this season as a result of having website. Don't know what my plays have been in the past, just know they have been in profit each season

All the British books offer e/w betting on outrights as standard. Surprised at your continued problems with Paddy Power; have dealt with them a number of times by email and they have always responded within 24 hours. Similarly have made credit card deposits in the past without problem.

yeah, I know it is a standard, but methinks British and standard is because it is better for them.

Paddy power didn't call or email when they said they would, hence no need to use them currently, really.

Only any use for golf and gaelic football, they can't even do single bets on their own Irish soccer league, very weak.

think one thing too Stanley is they aren't really interested in dealing with people out of their 'business hours'

OK I know I said I will not bet in 18 hole match bets but simonbold have surely made a mistake quoting Westwood at +110 over Calcavechia
I would suggest backing this and then backing Calc as I am sure you will be able to get +180 somewhere Word of warning simonbold do quote a tie so I suggest you back this as well
The only reason I am putting this up is that simonbold made an error and laid me Calc at
+1000 (yes the number of 0's is correct)
Just hope they let me keep it must be my lucky week!!(would put lots of smiley faces but don't know how)

Looks like you're having a great treasure hunt this week Ian

The best place currently for Calc is Centrebet who currently have him +225. Alternatively, for the British books, Sportingbet offer +175. The best place for the tie is Ladbrokes who offer 8/1 against a norm of 15/2.

This would make a very nice scalp of 11.5% with Centrebet and 4.9% with Sportingbet. Thanks Ian

Definitely opening an account with Simon Bold now!

BTW when you make a post, there is a link entitled 'Smilies Legend' to the left of the text box. Click on that and it will tell you how to make smilies

WOW!!!

Simon Bold have Tiger Woods +100 to beat Thomas Bjorn in the 1st round. Okay, ties lose, but I
LOVE
this book
biggrin.gif
They even have a few pointspreads in the NFL that look a little off!

1st round plays:

Tiger Woods to beat Thomas Bjorn +100 @ Simon Bold [3 units - the max!]
Lee Westwood to beat Mark Calcavecchia +110 @ Simon Bold [3 units]

Thanks Ian! Looks like I owe you a beer next time you're passing through Oxford

I knew about the Woods +100 but was waiting to put it out here because I knew a mate of mine wanted to get on but was in a meeting and couldn't get to a computer
I would suggest a nice little scalp here as well Bjorn at 11-4 with Sportingbet

Prices still up. If there is one good thing about British books, they are very slow to change prices for anything other than horse racing. For example, the odds for the weekend soccer matches are generally published by Tuesday in coupon format and they will remain those price right until kick-off.

Imagine what fun you would have if the opening football lines never changed until gametime

I am looking for matches to oppose Franco but due to last week performance and having terrible results involving Franco this year would appreciate any input before I start pulling trigger.

I would agree with opposing Franco DTB. He has played twice in Europe this season and has missed the cut at both the British Open and German Masters. Had missed the cut and finished 7th respectively last year.

For someone who has travelled well in the past because of circumstance, my instinct is that he reached his goals last year that he had worked so hard to achieve. I don't see the drive in him that he had last year IMO especially when travelling. His performance at the German Masters was extremely lackluster and I would say it will be again this week.

That was my take on him with addition of wind being possible factor, however after a thrashing I am doing a lot of second quessing and having hard time committing.

72-hole plays:

Michael Campbell to beat Thomas Bjorn +100 @ Playersbet
Adding another unit even though the best price has gone

Nick Price to beat Thomas Bjorn -140 @ WSEX
Already outlined the reasons why Price should over-perform this week and can't see Bjorn doing the same

Lee Westwood to beat Ernie Els +100 @ Five Dimes
Top pick for this week should secure at least a top-5 finish; I think this latest spate of TransAtlantic hopping will be Els' undoing this week, particularly after he faded so much from the lead last week

Colin Montgomerie to beat Justin Leonard -120 @ Playersbet
Leonard's game is suited to short, tough courses, but I don't rate his iron play to be strong enough to conquer this course. Monty has done in the past and on his home Tour he should prevail

1st round plays:

Angel Cabrera to beat Franklin Langham -140 @ Intertops [2 units]
Lee Westwood to beat Darren Clarke -115 @ Five Dimes
Chris Perry to beat Lucas Parsons -180 @ Intertops [2 units]

DTB, the forecast is for no wind this week. Valderrama does usually get some wind, but the forecast says no more than 5mph breezes until Sunday.
