DTB I was just about to pose same question.

He was standing at +1 after double-bogeying the 8th (I think) and now his score has been taken off the leaderboard.

Is anyone watching the golf? Some of us have to work today

Els apparently hurt his back at the airport on Sunday trying to get his luggage out of the car and his been undergoing treatment ever since. He was told on Monday by his physio he would probably not be able to play
Money on Tiger is probably lost one shot down on the 17th he just put it in the water-memories of last year!!!!

I know that everyone will disagree with me but todays 18 hole results convinced me even more that this sort of bet is too unpredictable
I was lucky in that I bet the Woods match to 86.76% and Westwoods to 68.47% (including the tie)
Stan I hope you managed to get that scalp I sent you last night to make up for todays disappointment

I'm depressed

I was so eager to exploit Simon Bold's bad lines, I didn't follow my long-time practise of always playing the scalp and securing the long-term profits. Money management, money management, money management!!!!

Was planning a full review of season's bets - having them recorded on your own website does help keep track of myth & reality - but now I might even start to agree with Ian. Have always believed that over the long-term my 18-hole matchups plays have been profitable. Heavy losses at times, but more than evened over the year by wins at good prices. Will look back at record after this tournament and look at the "facts". Will continue to make 18-hole plays for this tournament, but re-learnt harsh lesson today of discipline being absolutely necessary for successful wagering. Thought I was the epitomy of that until today

Not a good way to end the season. Looks like Simon Bold will be around for many a year after today!

Days like today happen for a reason - usually to teach us the reason why bookmakers are in existence and why very very few ever go bust.
Simonbold either got it totally wrong today or took a very bold (excuse the pun) viewpoint
and they happened to come out very well
Anyway anything that makes you look at your results not through rose tinted glasses can only be beneficial in the long run

Ouch! That's a little cutting

Thought I'd be the last person to wear rose-tinted glasses. Still believe 18-hole wagering can be very profitable, though I suspect I will have made more money from the 1st round plays than the other rounds. Only careful re-examination of my records will tell. If so, then the rewards to increased effort needed for 2nd-4th round plays may not be worth it on the systemmatic basis that I have done it for my site. Anyway ...

1st round update: 2-3-0 and -5.80 units

Extremely disappointing losses on Woods & Westwood in the 'bargains of the year' plays. Woods lost by one to Bjorn, while Westwood only tied and that's not enough with a Euro book The other loss was a surprisingly poor Cabrera who lost by six to Langham. Westwood beat Clarke by two and Perry beat Parsons by ten for the two wins.

Break-even situation in the 72-hole plays as Els withdraws after nine holes to hand a victory in the Westwood-Els matchup, but Campbell trails by two in the two-unit play, Price leads Bjorn by seven, Westwood leads Clarke by two and Monty trails Leonard by three. Not too much cheer on the first day, but if Nick Price could hold on to be a 40/1 winner that would certainly make amends!

2nd round plays:

David Toms to beat Thomas Bjorn +110 @ Moneyplays
Darren Fischardt to beat Lucas Parsons +125 @ Surrey [2 units]
Steve Flesch to beat Hidemichi Tanaka -150 @ Surrey [2 units]
Chris Perry to beat Carlos Franco +100 @ Moneyplays [2 units]
Mathias Gronberg to beat Nobuhito Sato -110 @ Sportingbet [2 units]
Chris Perry to beat Franklin Langham -125 @ Surrey [2 units]

They put out a bad line and got away with it plain and simple. If I threw huge amounts on scalps like IE I would have went that route but on my modest wagers would have double norm with no scalp and let it ride.I figure their chances of winning that bet were around 10%.

2nd rd results 2-0

Harrington over Coltart by 3
Perry over Franco by 5

IE: Being a small potato player the limits totally escaped me. But I understand where that would come into play with the scalpers now that you mentioned it.

2nd round update: 4-2-0 and +2.10 units

Some damage repair work done today. Flesch and Fischardt suffer heavy defeats - Tanaka was excellent in difficult conditions while Fischardt was one-under-par after 7 holes and level with Parsons; he then dropped nine shots in eleven holes
eek.gif
The winners were Toms by two, Perry by five over Franco and by two over Langham and Gronberg by three over Sato.

The 72-hole plays improved also to stand 4-0-1: Campbell leads Bjorn by four, Price leads by Bjorn by thirteen, Westwood and Clarke are tied and Monty leads Leonard by four, with Westwood having already beaten Els.

Ian, sorry, was frustrated with my lack of discipline on those two Simon Bold plays and so was taking everything personally. Bad day, but brief review of season's plays has confirmed that 18-hole plays have been very profitable. So not looking to immediate blame loss on volatility of 18-hole betting, these things level out over the season as long as we have discipline in our wagering

The nearest weather station I have reports for is Malaga which is about one hour away from Valderrama. Today's forecast had been for 17.6 degrees centigrade; forecast is for 19.5 degrees tomorrow and a more typical 22.3 degrees on Sunday. Still relatively little wind, but it is quite locally concentrated around the Gibraltar strait.

Hope it helps. Definitely not Franco weather
