Well I was suppossed to leave to Italy about 4 hours ago, but the flight has been delayed as the plane needed repairs, hence I am leaving later today in about 6 hours. I will be vacationing with my entire family there for 7 days as my old man decided to surprise us with the trip. I am not sure if I will have internet access out there as my aunt lives on a farm in the middle of nowhere near Rome.

I do have one more play before I depart and hopefully when I come back all of you are having a successful time in picking winners;)

3 Units Argentina -.5 (+108) VS England

Again, best of luck to all of you as you will be missed.

Now go get em and kill your book!

Adding one more play before I jet:

5 Units France -222

I'd hate to be Uruguay right now. Still, the South Americans won't be in a good mood either so i'd expect some nasty tackles in this game. France will win though: the right side of the Uruguay defense is a sieve. Denmark did most of their damage down this side, and American fans will remember that it was the uruguay friendly that Beasley started to shine by exploiting this side as well. Henry must be licking his chops just thinking of crusing down that side towards goal.

BTW, Thanks Mr. for your thougts!

Just got in from my vacation in Italy, eye candy like no tomorrow and what a party it was after Italy advanced to the 2nd round, Rome is a beautiful city indeed.

I have made plays since I left but since they were not posted here it will not count towards my record.

That france game killed me and just wanted to congratulate the many on here who are making a profit during the world cup. These 2nd round games should be fun.

Plays and write ups to come later

Cheers

England@Denmark

England are going to win tomorrow, comfortably. 2-0 if I was a betting man. I am losing absolutely no sleep.

Denmark are a good side and I do not for a minute underestimate or not respect them. They are generally in good form and, before the first round, they were many people's "dark horse".

They work hard, they have an excellent team ethic, they have a measure of flair, and perhaps most importantly of all, they rarely beat themselves.

However, they are not as good as England (which actually means nothing, as "good teams" often lose to poorer ones) and furthermore, for what it's worth, the England team presently and importantly seem to be in a vein of form where their self-belief is high and they are disinclined to self destruct. If we forget "all matches" and look only at "big matches" in recent months, England's record is unsurpassed. And tomorrow is a big match.

Big matches, additionally, are decided by "big players", not simply above-average ones. That is what distinguishes the greats from the merely good. Cometh the hour, cometh the man. Denmark have a lot of very good players. So do England. England also have Beckham and Owen, and possibly Scholes too. Those three are, simply, a cut above. Beckham, at the least, IS World Class and moreover, he leads by example.

While England will take nothing for granted, the thought of Tofting and his barrel-chested buddies is not going to cause sleepless nights in Svensville. Most of England's players play a lot of the Danes week in and week out. They will know how to cope. As for wingers, well, it's not exactly the first time England's defenders will have faced them.

That is precisely what I'm trying to say on the England game without being able to put it into context like you just did. It's the talented players that should step up now and England has the better of those talented players. I fully expect both Beckham and Owen to rise and play exceptional football especially Owen who has yet to display his true talents. Good work TTM$$$ and good luck!

I firmly believe that teams are going to play extra careful in the 2nd round, thus the UNDER being a great value play in most games. Looked at the stats of the past 3 World Cup's and the number of goals in the 2nd round dropped off dramatically compared to the 1st round games. With Owen not showing me anything yet, and Denmark having a decent defense I expect a low scoring game.

Adding:

So much for that under, kicking myself in the ass now as I am going to lose .60 units on this game. Should have played more units on England @ a price of +120, shame on me.

Time to Make $$$,

Nice call on England .... as for the under most of us thought it looked like a strong play.

Hard to believe the game goes over before half time.

Staying away from totals until I get a better feel of the game in the 2nd round....

Spain-Ireland

I think that Spain will have most of the possession. Ireland's big chance comes in frustrating their use of it. Ireland's style of pressure should be effective against short-passing, but any lapse in concentration could be fatal against such a clinical attacking side.

If Ireland is still in the game with 20-25 minutes to go, I think the Irish will start to be confident, as they will give it a right hammering in the closing stages and will definitely exploit any nervousness in the Spanish team.

However, if Spain gets away to a good start which I expect, I think they are on enough of a roll right now, to go on and win.

I think that the Irish will play Spain tough and it will take awhile for Spain to crack the Irish defense. As long as they don't get too antsy they should be able to do it. but if they start looking at the clock and get desperate they will fall directly into what the Irish want. Go to overtime, play the 30 minutes and then to PK. Sort of what Red Star of Belgrade did the year they won the CL. Play for a tie and win with PK's. Not exactly pretty futbol but again that is what is sometimes required to be victorious!

In dispute with my book about the abpve wager, I thought I had won, but it seems that the play stands for the 90 minutes only, I thought it was including OT and PK, dammit

Record: 12-8, -22.43 Units

First thought:

Since June 11, 2000 USA is 4-1 over Mexico. In past year, USA is 2-1 over Mexico. Only loss happenned in Mexico.

That being said, Mex looked solid against Italy.

I think this will be one of the best games of the World Cup, with Mexico and the US finally putting an A team out against each other. During the qualifiers this didn't happen due to injury and Mexico coaching decisions. The key will be the midfield with four of the better midfielders in the tournament playing. The deciding factor I think will be the U.S. team speed and Mcbride winning balls.

Just an honest opinion. The US has done brilliantly so far. They capitalised on a self-destructive Portugal's performance and though the opportunity for victory was handed to them on a plate, all credit to them for taking it.

The draw with South Korea was a magnificent result, in many ways better than Portugal as this was a result they achieved for themselves with no charity from the opposition, and furthermore they took something from the sort of opponent they need to be taking points from. The fact that South Korea eventually won the group only makes this result more impressive.

Poland, I fear, was a reversion to something closer to form. If you can secure qualification to the last 16 of the World Cup playing against an opponent who's already out of the competition, yet you get drubbed, then I have to conclude that, until that point, an element of fortune has to have been on your side.

No matter. Even taking the Poland result into account, the US team has improved immeasurably in the last 12 years and the performance at this World Cup, for the first time, really justifies your seat at the big table. The US may still be -- are, in fact -- minnows when it comes to World Football but they are now competitive minnows who have earned the right to be taken seriously. The first big step on the ladder has been taken.

With all that said, Mexico have been awfully impressive thus far. They are not, and have not played like "just an average team" and you could, in fact, argue that they have been one of the two or three most impressive sides in the tournament to date. The fact that both teams will know each other well probably helps the underdog (USA) more than the favourite, but I think Mexico has a real chance to go very, very deep into this tournament. In all honesty, the USA does not. Mexico has flair, depth, inventiveness, and some very good individual players indeed. They have been little short of a revelation.

They are playing 3-5-2 because of their confidence in Marquez ,Torrado has been stopping the plays in midfield and other teams haven't had a chance to try Mexico's defence . The only player that I like from the US is their GK., All others are way overmatched .

Mexico will win, of that I am sure. I believe it may not be all that close, and I mean no disrespect to the USA in making that prediction.

Prediction: 2-0

Mex -.5 -103

Turkey@Japan

I think that this bet is much more dangerous than the previous one. I've no doubts that Japan has enough quality to reach the next round. But the Turks are so unpredictable. When they have their day, I think that they could win any game, no matter the opponent. But they are so inconsistent. I just think that it would be fair for Japanese to go through.... They deserve it, for their performances so far... They'll have the support from their fans, they may have some advantage regarding the refereeing (after all, they are the co-hosts) and they are physically better prepared than Turks (or any of 80% of national squads in this WC).... so I'm going for their victory!

Line is dropping so if you like Japan you better hurry...

I agree with your saying about the Turks...but how can you go against a home team...a COUNTRY is behind them! I mean this isnt like Carolina @ Detroit for the Cup....this is a whole country with a stadium completly filled with Japan fans...this only happens every 4 years for some teams...this is a once in a life time chance for these Japan players....to me motivation and the mind game can defeat any opponent....and I can assure you that Japan has both of those in this world cup
