IF YOU'RE GONNA BE HERE, YOU'RE A GLUTTON FOR PUNISHMENT!! MAKE ONE FALSE MOVE AND YOU'RE IN FOR A "RUDE" AWAKENING

that assumption isn't correct at all. Lots of folks make bad moves(ie,...bettin' on the losing team) and most pass it on as lessons learned. However, if you happen to jump up and down and thump your chest like a lunatic gorilla wanting some ape meat, then yeah, I'd say you'll get your fair share of abuse. If you indeed are "legendary", then take my word for it, people WILL notice and give credit where credit is due. Just try and be civilized when ya post your selections.

Some old wrestling names...

Some old wrestling names...

Rick Rood (actual spelling) was a great name to see again. I went to high scool with his brother Mike. Believe it or not, I also played football with Curt Hennig's brother! Bounced a little where the Road Warriors would frequent, as well as the contstruction crew if you remember them. Nice guys in the world, Animal was a short guy. but his lats had to spread across a doorway, very impressive!

Minnesota was a hot bed for wrestlers, there are still a few around such as X-Pac, (real name Shaun) who lives about 10 miles away.

Just thought I would chime in seeing those names, I was/am a wrestling buff.

Like to hear about the old time wrestlers. A couple I still keep in touch with are Barron Von Raschke and Mad Dog Vachon. Both are doing well.

It's good to hear from some of you in the old AWA territory. I was a follower of Georgia Championship Wrestling and didn't get to see much of the AWA myself until Pro Wrestling USA. It was a neat concept, getting AWA and NWA Mid-Atlantic/Georgia stars together in one show, but in time it basically became a program with an almost exclusively AWA roster. (Guess Crockett backed out of that one.)

Remember watching some of the old stars like the Baron, Vachon (with a mug only a mother could love), Bockwinkel, Zbyszko, Crusher Blackwell, Butch Reed, Kamala, Gagne & Brunzell, Road Warriors, Jake "The Milkman" Milliman. Thought it was a good move to put the strap on someone like Martel, a young guy with good looks, but with the personality of a pebble. Still recall a few supposed "title-unifying" matches between him and NWA champ Ric Flair. Of course the outcome was always a "draw" (only Gary Michael Cappeta could say it in that unique way) or DQ.

In the end I guess the AWA was TOO old school (remember Lee Marshall's voiceover and '60's-style music blaring over the intro of the All-Star wrestling show?). oh well.

Whatever happened to "the Crusher" or "Dick The Bruiser?" Last I heard, sometime ago, they had a bar in Milwaukee or North of Chicago.
I still laugh @ Bobby Heenan. Remembering how he always managed the Heel and would break-up interviews for the "good Guys" w/ lines like " What is this..a toothpaste commercial?':)

I liked Piper's Pit.

Remember when they held down the midget The Tonga Kid and shaved him a Mohawk.

Big fan of Jimmy Superfly Snooka and Hacksaw Jim Duggan. He had the 3-point stance into a clothesline, the 2x4, and the "thumbs up" cheer. That's a lot of gimmicks for one guy.

WOW...

WOW...

gecko-

It was actually the Construction crew with Mean Mike Enos, and Wayne "The Train" Bloom.

The biggest brawl I ever had while bouncing was with Mean Mike Enos, he got into a scuffle and wanted to take everyone with him. Man people were being thrown all over the place. Over the bars, over the cover charge booth. All of this took place in a suburb!

Jerry Blackwell, now there is a story. When I first moved to minnesota, he lived in the same apartment complex, that was I believe 1980. His wife was as large as him, no kidding...and the son was thin as a rail! (Little weird to  ) He was also the only one allowed to have a dog in the building, hmmmm!

Let's not forget Rock and Roll Buck Zumhoff...Jake "The Milkman" Middleman (sp?) was hillarious. Mr. Siato, Ken Patera... The Killer Bees, heck you still see Greg Gagne pushing care for a local Mitsubishi dealership.

Big Daddy-

You know the Baron huh? High school teacher in Burnsville or Bloomington if I remember right. Mad Dog was just on the local wrestling scene last week or so, doing an interview, it was hilarious, he was trying to be the old Mad Dog of old, but kept cracking a smile and laughing a bit! Classic moment!

How's the Blue Devils going to look this year? Ed going to get them fired up!

yyz -- nice vidcap. That was Jesse before he became governor, Mean Gean prior to being bald, and Adrian Adonis before he got so damn overweight, not to mention pre-gay gimmick (yuck!).

beertime - after reading your post, i'd be wary if I was lifting up Jerry Blackwell for a bodyslam. hey, maybe HE was the originator of the "stinkface"! LOL.

dogface -- my bad, i'd thought it was the Destruction Crew, but nevertheless I remember those guys carrying around those sledgehammers to the ring. Don't remember if they ever used them, though. Nice story about Mike Enos. He sure looked like a tough dude back in the day. I remember the Rock n' Roller Buck Zumhoffe. He often fought with Mr. Electricity Steve Regal, I think. Oh yeah, and Masa Saito was great. What a character! Too bad he didn't get to team with Mr. Fuji in the AWA.

Dogface, I forgot all about Jerry Blackwell or 'Fatwell' as the crowd used to chant. I am still amazed at how he could do a standing drop-kick. still wouldn't believe it if I hadn't of seen it- numerous times.

I agree. To see Blackwell perform a standing dropkick was AMAZING. hmmmm....maybe he had an extra low center of gravity. But could he do a leapfrog?
