Dogface-
Look out for the Blue Devils this year. They are loaded. Everyone back on offense and only lost 1 guy on defense - Tony Beckham - drafted by the Tennessee Titans - the 1st player in school history to be drafted. They also picked up a transfer running back from the Badgers who is supposed to be pretty good. Ranked #14 in the country in NCAA Division 3. They are expected to win the conference.

With all the wrestling talk, I have to tell a story about Baron Von Raschke. Anyone who watched AWA would remember that he would always end his TV interviews with the phrase "Thats all you need to know !!!", would stomp off the set, and leave the announcer standing there by himself. Well, one night the Baron and I were sitting down at my bar having a few beers, and I asked him how that got started. He went on to tell me that early in his career, he was being interviewed by Wally Karbo (sp?). If you guys remember Wally, he was a little, old frail looking guy with glasses. This was also when these interviews were live, not taped. Baron's interview with Wally was scripted to last 3 minutes. Well, the camera went on, and the Baron told me his mind went blank. He had forgotten all his lines. He babbled out some reply to the 1st question, and after the next question, he didn't know what to say, so he blurted out "Thats all you need to know!!!", and walked off, leaving old Wally there to have to wing it for the last 2 minutes. It turned out the fans really liked it, so that became his trademark slogan at the end of all his interviews.

Big Daddy...

Big Daddy...

Great Baron story!

I watched Tony Beckham in the All-Star game on ESPN, (Forget which one it was), and man did he have some quicks! Looked solid, speed, good build...the learning comes next, let's hope it happens. (I'll never forget the remarks from the ESPN Crew, I don't think UW-Stout has ever had this much National coverage!) Good for them! How is the development of the new stadium going?

FTR: In case people are wondering why we are talking about UW-Stout, it is one of my Alma Mater's, and I coached LB's there for a bit! Also Big Daddy owns a bar in Menomonie, popular spot, and I hear the beer is free this week! LMAO!!!

Didn't want to name the place, just in case you didn't want it mentioned! So you can add it if you choose! My only advice, hire the best looking and most endowed girls, and I'll be back! I'll also bring the wife!!!! Heck..maybe I'll come introduce myself if I make it for the Homecoming game, let me know when it is!!! May be I can bring up some TheSportsInfo Shirts or hats for you to hand out! Let me know!!!

LMAO at reading all these posts about the AWA wrestlers. When I was a kid (early 70's) I remember on Sunday mornings sitting in church with my mom and brothers and I couldn't wait to get home so that I could watch AWA wrestling with my dad and try out the moves with my brothers.
One of my buddies is called "Scrap" by all of us who have known him since we were kids-- after his favorite wrestler "Scrap Iron" kadaski(sp?) Its hillarious to run into him and call out to him-- Hey Scrap!-- and have whoever he is with look at him like WTF?? and wonder why this person is calling him Scrap.

Remember Chief Wahoo McDaniel? How about George "The Animal" Steele? Always got a kick out of him biting the turnbuckles after his wins and then spitting out the pieces towards the fans that were booing him. Great reading, fellas....:D

for all you wrestling fanatics

for all you wrestling fanatics

I urge you to see the movie I Like To Hurt People. It might be hard to find now, but I rented it at Blockbuster several years ago. It's basically a documentary, and footage is entirely from the mid-'70's. It's a classic in the genre.

Takes you back to the NWA Detroit territory, one of the regional hotbeds at the time (they had their own U.S. title, like the Mid-Atlantic area). Most of the action takes place either at Cobo Hall or the studio where they did TV tapings. Wrestlers in the movie include Andre the Giant, Dusty Rhodes, Terry Funk, Ox Baker, Abdullah the Butcher, the Grand Wizard and Bobo Brazil. The main focus seemed to be the Sheik, and if you know the Sheik there's a lot of crimson flowing. This definitely wasn't for this kids. Good stuff, check it out if you can.

Arnold Skollen

Arnold Skollen

ARI182-At the age of twelve one of my older brothers took me to MSG to see Bruno Samartino fight Cowboy Billy Watts, who was the closest thing they had in the sixties to the 'roided out bodies wrestling today.During the match I got an autograph from among others, none other than Arnold Skollen, the easy mark niceguy!I fondly remember The Magnificent Maurice,The Golden Terror, and Arman Hussein(whose great submission hold was called, predictably,The Desert Crab.)My brother and I went twice, but there was a riot at the second cards Championship match by the Bruno fans after a particularly implausible referee's ruling deprived him of the victory.Everyone was sittiing on folding chairs(yes,at Madison Square Garden circa 1965),which soon became projectiles that were being winged everywhere.Ahh those formative memories.

I got some...

I got some...

and can't quite remeber the rest:

Jake The Snake Roberts
Ivan Polish Power Putski
Tommy Wildfire Rich
Mr. USA Tony Atlas

That's all for now...

Speaking of some of the Georgia wrestler's

Tommy Wildfire Rich
Mr. Wrestling #1, #2 etc.

What were some of the other members of that day, with Gordon Soley the announcer.

Remember from Texas:

The Missing Link
Kamala The Ugandan Giant also WWF
All of the Von Erichs (Tragic Stories)

Also Ted Dibiase from the WWF was classic, and then he had the body guard that ended up joining the NWO.

the answers, please......

the answers, please......

bear & dogface, good going. You guys answered those correctly. here are the complete answers:

"Mr. USA" Tony Atlas - former bodybuilder who went on to have a long career, mostly notably in the WWF as tag team champ multiple times with Rocky Johnson, father of The Rock

"The Big Cat" Ernie Ladd - played many seasons of pro football, after which he starred in the WWF and on the regional circuit; wore a crown to the ring ala Jerry Lawler

"Special Delivery" S.D. Jones - mid-carder and perenial jobber in the WWF, but nonetheless was a huge fan favorite

Jake "The Snake" Roberts - larger than life heel in the WWF, and before that primarily in Georgia and the Mid-South; gimmick must have been based on real life because he's had to battle many demons like alcohol and drugs

"Wildfire" Tommy Rich - huge star in Memphis and Georgia; had a brief run as NWA World champion for a few days, winning the belt from, and losing it back to, Harley Race

"Bullet" Bob Armstrong - regional star in Alabama and Georgia who kept wrestling until old age; patriach of the Armstrong clan, most famous of which was Brad Armstrong

"Polish Power" Ivan Putski - probably one of the top fan favorites in the WWF in the '70's and '80's; short in stature but very stocky and well-built, finishing maneuver was the "Polish Hammer"

"Boogie Woogie Man" Jimmy Valiant - one of the Valiant brothers; was hugely over mainly in the Mid-Atlantic area, was kind of a loose cannon, wild and kooky character

Stan "The Lariat" Hansen - aka "The Bad Man from Borger, TX"; former AWA World champion; wrestled just about everywhere, bringing a bullrope and bell to the ring, mean disposition; probably one of the most popular and despised Americans to ever wrestle in Japan

"Raging Bull" Manny Fernandez - this one's the hardest; regional star mainly in the Southwest/Texas, Florida and Mid-Atlantic; best known for being NWA World tag champs with Dusty Rhodes
