Anyone remember when Stave Austin was "Stunning" back in the WCW?

AR182......I had to go to extremes to get this one (a friend of mine has these old wrestling rags). The original Fabulous Kangaroos (Al Costello & Roy Heffernan) were managed by a former wrestler named WILD RED BERRY, who dressed like a proper English gentleman, complete with derby and cane.

nice pics of Stunning Steve, yyz. I can still remember watching WCW during their lean years, which was about the time when Austin teamed with Pillman to form the Hollywood Blondes. They were a very good tag team, and their gimmick where they would act like they were filming with handheld cameras, always cracked me up. Now that I've seen the vidcap, I can't get over the amazing resemblance between his first wife (the British blonde pictured) and his current Mrs., Debra. They look exactly the same!

entrance/theme music trivia

entrance/theme music trivia

Over the years (starting in the '80's) many wrestlers have had entrance music which they were easily identified with. I'll provide the song title and the artist, and see if you can name the wrestler or tag team that used it.

"Badstreet USA" - recorded by this trio (name the members)

"Iron Man" - Black Sabbath

"Eye of the Tiger" - Survivor

"Hot Stuff" - Donna Summer

"Atomic Dog" - George Clinton

"Thus Spake Zarathustra" - Richard Strauss

....and if you get THIS one, then you REALLY know your stuff:

"The Chase" - Giorgio Moroder

You know, I gave it some thought and.....no way that's Deborah (ex-Mrs. Steve Mongo McMichael). I don't think he knew her til she came into the WWF. Notice the "PUPPIES" aren't as big. LOL

Anyway, I think that's Jeannie Clarke aka Lady Blossom, his valet during his World Class and WCW days. That's the British gal he married and eventually divorced a few years ago. He credited her as the one who came up with the "Stone Cold" name.

My mistake, I think that's the WCW TV title (not the U.S. belt) he's got over his shoulder.

Again...

Again...

Trying to be true to the question without looking anything up..

"Badstreet USA" - Fabulous Freebirds! Loved them!!!

"Iron Man" - Black Sabbath Road Warriors

"Eye of the Tiger" - Survivor Hulk Hogan when he was on Rocky!

Can't remember the rest...

You will all be happy to know I went to my first WNBA game and as part of the promo for the evening there was a SDW (Steel Domain Wrestling) event after the game. 3 matches, one was a 3 way women's title match. But the most entertaining was a Battle Royal of 10 mascots! LMAO!! Crunch from the Timberwolves, and Lynx the Lynx's mascot were the last 2 remaining, with Lynx ducking under a body block by Crunch along the ropes for the victory!

What made the whole night was my buddy works for Clear Channel Communications and we had the suite and caterered diner. All in all a good time.

All kidding aside, has anyone been to a WNBA game, very hard to tell who are all of the guys in the arena  , and some really poor female mullets! I mean out back, tobacco chewing, straws of hay chewing, wife-beater wearing, mullets! :nono: :nono:

Fletcher just checked in with a few more names I thought of as well. The Anderson bros, "Nature Boy" Ric Flair and I can't believe we haven't mentioned Jimmy "Super Fly" Snooka yet....

I'm sure there are more than a few we have not yet mentioned from the old NWA/AWA days. What ended me watching the AWA/NWA was(besides puberty) was when they decided to make Nick Bockwinkle a "good" guy.
WTF?? I mean, come on, this guy was everyone's favorite villian-- the man you just loved to hate and for whom you just loved to boo and hiss at when he was on screen or when you were at a live show....

Oh, yeah, Fletch.... Rufus R. "Railroad" Jones.
The proudest black man in wrestling. Remember his platform shoes and wild feather boas? This was long before the masses had heard of Jesse " The Gov" Ventura...

thought about using it as a trivia question....

thought about using it as a trivia question....

....but it was actually Rufus R. "Freight Train" Jones.

That's some classic stuff from the Mid-Atlantic/Georgia/Florida triumvirate. Guys like Dusty Rhodes, Kevin Sullivan, Ric Flair, the Andersons, Greg Valentine, Jake Roberts, Ted DiBiase, the Sawyer brothers, Barry Windham used to compete in those territories time and time again.

I was visiting my relatives in the small town of Ponca City, Oklahoma a couple of years ago, and I saw that there was a wrestling show scheduled while I was there. I figured it was just some small local show, but being the wrestling fan that I was, I decided to check it out. It turned out to be a league promoted by Jake " The Snake" Roberts. For being such a small show, only a few hundred tickets sold, he really brought in some good talent. The Rock and Roll Express, Cowboy Bob Orton, Greg "The Hammer" Valentine, Doink The Clown, The Bushwackers (one of my personal favorites). There was 2 Main Events, the 1st one was Jake "The Snake" vs The Honky Tonk Man. The 2nd one was 2 of the biggest wrestlers I have ever seen, King Kong Bundy vs King Mabel. Anybody remember King Mabel? Bundy was over 500#, and Mabel was bigger than Bundy. You should have seen that ring move when those guys got in and started bouncing around.

The reason I mention this is because a lot of those former wrestling stars still like to do the small local shows, and it is a great place to meet them. The small shows are also very fan friendly, as the wrestlers come out during the intermissions and talk with the fans, sign autographs, pose for pictures, etc.
I'm don't know If Jake "The Snake" still promotes, ( he was based somewhere in Texas at that time), but if he does, it is a show well worth seeing. I know Ken Patera still runs shows in Minnesota and Wisconsin. He and I have worked together quite a bit. Buck "Rock & Roll" Zumhoff also puts on shows in the area, although he uses mostly unknown local wrestlers. A friend of mine, Jumpin' Jim Brunzell, used to wrestle in Patera's shows, but he decided to retire recently. He told me once he turned 50, the old body doesn't take the bumps like it used to.

music trivia answers

music trivia answers

dogface, ya did good with the ones you answered. Correctomundo!!! :Yep:

Here are the rest:

"Hot Stuff" - Donna Summer
Who else? Used by the one and only "Hot Stuff" Eddie Gilbert. R.I.P.

"Atomic Dog" - George Clinton
the late great Sylvester Ritter aka Junkyard Dog

"Thus Spake Zarathustra" - Richard Strauss
This timeless piece of classical music lasts less than 2 minutes. Everyone knows it from 2001: A Space Odyssey.....or as the entrance theme for "Nature Boy" Ric Flair.

"The Chase" - Giorgio Moroder
With a hypnotic, pulsing beat, synthesized bass and an infectious melody, this instrumental classic can be found on the '70's Midnight Express movie soundtrack. Used early on in the tag team's career. You're bound to recognize this tune if you listen to it.
