There are lots of things you don't recall stevie (selective memory)--try this one ;) from Wikipedia

The founding of NAMBLA (1977-1978)
In December 1977, police raided a house in the Boston suburb of Revere. Twenty-four men were arrested and indicted on over 100 felony counts of the statutory rape of boys aged eight to fifteen. Suffolk County District Attorney Garrett Byrne alleged that the men used drugs and video games to lure the boys into a house, where they photographed them as they engaged in sexual activity. Byrne accused the men of being members of a "sex ring", and said that the arrest was only "the tip of the iceberg."[9] The arrests sparked intense media coverage, and local newspapers published the photographs and personal information of the accused men.

Staff members of the gay newspaper Fag Rag believed the raid was politically motivated. They and others in Boston's gay community saw Byrne's round-up as an anti-gay witchhunt. On December 9 they organized the Boston-Boise Committee, a name intended as a reference to a similar situation that unfolded in Boise, Idaho in the 1950s. The group sponsored rallies, provided funds for the defendants, and tried to educate the public about the case by passing out fliers. It would also later spawn NAMBLA.

District Attorney Garrett Byrne was defeated in his re-election bid. The new DA said that no man should fear prison for having sex with a teenager unless coercion was involved. All charges were dropped. The few who had already pled or been found guilty received only probation.[10]

On December 2, 1978, Tom Reeves of the Boston-Boise Committee convened a meeting called "Man/Boy Love and the Age of Consent." Approximately 150 people attended. At the meeting's conclusion, about thirty men and youths decided to form an organization which they called the North American Man/Boy Love Association, or NAMBLA for short

Doggie boy, just what current Mass politician are you referring to? And are you saying you agree that no grown man should face jail for having sex with a minor? Or do you agree with most normal thinking people that what Foley is accused of is disgusting and hopefully illegal.

Posted my thoughts early on Foley Steve--

"Now if you want someone that deserves jail time- instead of just stepping down he would be poster boy."

--but NOT NEAR as sick as those that promote child porn nor those defend them via "THEIR" interpretation of constitution.

This has nothing to do with anything else but this sick fellow. Ya I'll give him the benefit of sick. BUT those who new and did nothing are guilty of much more. They need to be found out and asked to resign. I don't care what party there from. It has nothing to do with 9 year old history. Unless we find he's been at it that long.

here is another guy who is blaming his problems on the bottle....

for once i would like to see these politicians stand up & act like men & take full responsibilty for their actions.

wouldn't that be refreshing.

between lecturing us on morality issues that they themselves don't follow or choosing what laws to enforce...these hypocritical pricks get me so mad that i would move out of the country if i knew where to move to.

i'm definitely sitting out this election & probably in 08 as well.

it's giving me agita...

I know where you're coming from, but really, what is sitting out the election going to accomplish? You still need to vote for whomever you feel is the most qualified. If everything proves out true here (where's Eddie Haskell with his usual innocent until guilty spiel, oh wait, this isn't a democrat, so I'm sure he won't add that to this thread ;) ) surely this guy is going to get more than alcohol rehab. Just thinking about what this prick did makes me nauseous!

Yeah, that was interesting news. I heard he turned himself in for counseling and figured it was the pedophilia thing - only to find out it was for alcohol? That's just wrong to blame something as great as alcohol for his "problems". I guess that strategy will earn sympathy from some, so it was the shrewd political move.

Not really. That's all Kennedy was doing - drinking and popping pills. He wasn't deciding to molest kids on top of the substance abuse.

you miss my point....

the reason why i called this the kennedy 2 step is because teddy perfected this as an excuse & was the first politican that i can recall using it as an excuse for shitty behavior.

hollywood & wash. find it convenient to blame their low life behavior on either the bottle or the use of pills & think that all will be forgiven if they check themselves into a rehab center.

because i don't like either party. as much as i dislike the republican hypocracy, i dislike more what the democrats have become.

I don't recall any politician from Mass having sex with kids.

:mj07: don't remember the page sex scandal from 1983? Gerry Studds (D-Mass.) has sex with 17 year old page and didn't apologize, said "none of your business between me and consenting adult". The Mass voters re-elected him until he retired! :com:

Studds and another Democrat were caught in it and both were just reprimanded by congress. The other dude lost re-election.

Gingrich did call for their resignation. Foley is getting more heat than those Democrats---even tho he didn't do as much (but ABC is now reporting he did solicit, stay tuned as it could get deeper).

Asking someone to have sex is a lot different than doing it. But might be difference between 16 and 17 year old? I believe age of consent is 16 in DC. "Backwoods" is where it can get down to 14...

but Foley could have violated some new internet law, the sort Republican has loved to pass of late, about using internet to contribute to delinquency of minor or some such thing.

So the possibility is Foley might well have committed no crime if he had just had repeated sex with them like Studds---but merely talking about it (and having no sex) on internet with kid could land him in the slammer!

It's a different climate from 1983, and part of that is because the Republicans have drummed up so much "family" and "values" talk as they pass these internet laws. I'm gonna read thru the gambling prohibition one now...

How about the strategy of voting for whoever is new, regardless of party. Make an attempt to punish congress by voting out as many incumbents as possible.
