Studds and another Democrat were caught in it and both were just reprimanded by congress. The other dude lost re-election.

Gingrich did call for their resignation. Foley is getting more heat than those Democrats---even tho he didn't do as much (but ABC is now reporting he did solicit, stay tuned as it could get deeper).

Asking someone to have sex is a lot different than doing it. But might be difference between 16 and 17 year old? I believe age of consent is 16 in DC. "Backwoods" is where it can get down to 14...

but Foley could have violated some new internet law, the sort Republican has loved to pass of late, about using internet to contribute to delinquency of minor or some such thing.


So the possibility is Foley might well have committed no crime if he had just had repeated sex with them like Studds---but merely talking about it (and having no sex) on internet with kid could land him in the slammer!


It's a different climate from 1983, and part of that is because the Republicans have drummed up so much "family" and "values" talk as they pass these internet laws. I'm gonna read thru the gambling prohibition one now...

For the purpose of accuracy, in 1983 he admitted to having the relationship with the 17 year old page 10 years pror.

How about the strategy of voting for whoever is new, regardless of party. Make an attempt to punish congress by voting out as many incumbents as possible.

but,it smells like an orchestrated attack against the whole republican leadership is underway,and the attackers seem to be using this underaged victim as a pawn in the game....

i`ve read that some of the e mails were altered....and i would like to know why they were altered (albeit slightly as far as i can tell) and why the mass media chose to sit on this information (which, according to some sources, it possessed since november 2005...maybe, until an upcoming election cycle?)....

and just how much everyone else: republicans, democrats, and the mass media really knew about this...

there should be a full scale investigation,imo....

foley`s guilty as hell....but,theres something funny going on here....

lets find out if republicans were hiding this shit....at the peril of other young folks....

or if the democrats knew...and held the info until an opportune moment...again,imperiling young people...

That pretty much happens in any investigations about pretty much anything. They always try and get as much as much evidence as possible before going after someone.

Sure - if there's proof about gas prices, just like if there's proof about a particular party withholding stuff on Foley. What gives the impression Democrats or Mass Media had any knowledge of this Foley stuff before? Where is your proof to even start that line of sorta semi-accusations? If anything, it sounds like some Republicans were possibly covering him up - but what democrats - what media?

There are some funny articles on that site. But this kid was 16, whatever the age of consent is in DC, or wherever this happened, this isn't the same thing as luring an 8 year old into a van.

I think at 16 I would have had the ability to protect myself from some really lame advances by some old guy. If you read those transcripts, the kid seems more bored than scared.
