Not much of a fan of horse racing, and definitely not a animal lover either, or least to the degree that we have laws that protect them more so than the protection of our own kind.(But that is a debate for another time.

With this said, i ,in this time of age, i can not believe with all the groups and laws out there, that horse racing still exists.

I mean if a horse of lets say 2,000 plus pounds ,is forced to run , and with that intense impact on it, and all the L drug to prevent internal bleeding. Breaks a leg during the course of said event, needs to be "put down" after the fact , then i think we are doing an injustice by supporting the race in which it was injured.

And by the way , being "put down" is just a sugar coated way that people can justify said reasons in which it needs to be handled, after being mishandled.

So yes they whacked his ass, for all the Un-pc type. Anyway u see it or say it, he was killed by the hand of a human , for acts that a human asked him to preform at.

Had he not raced one day in his life, i think that he may still be alive for such family to enjoy.

PS- seriously race fans, u need to inject a drug to stop internal bleeding. That is not a solution, stop said horse from running. that's a solution.

glad i stimulated some thoughts by our members here...

i will not feel sorry for something that people eat all around the world, except for USA.

after this day is over we will not here one more wor about this horse being killed...

i'm sure the families of the 12 or so service men and women in iraq whose sons and daughters were killed today love all the press around this horse

Think you missed the boat Eagle.

It's not a horse's death, it's the way you're going about it.

Keep the serviceman bs out of it.

Gimme a break.....I'm sure the families of 12 or so service men and women killed in Iraq today could care less how much press a horse is getting.

I am sure losing a loved one in a war would put EVERYTHING into a different perspective. I don't think anyone is trying to make that correlation.

It's all about the money eh?

Apparently you don't realize they had a 20 milliion dollar insurance policy they could have immediately claimed had they put him down.

warEagle, I said that hours ago in a post, no doubt as usual the media is over killing this story. But intense operator hit the nail on the head, its not that a horse died, its the way you so joyfully, with smile faces, declared his death. Just doesn't sit so well, even with people that could care less about horses or racing.

Everyone fully understands that the horses death means different things to different people. Some it meant little to nothing, some felt saddened, but seriously most don't understand your reaction of elation. Honestly man it's a little odd.

I guess I'm the only one who agrees with wareagle here.

Horses get put down every day. Any other horse they would have put down the second the injury happened.

If you truly cared about horses here, then you guys wouldn't bring up the argument about what a great racehorse he was. You are, in essence, saying that Barbaro's death is more significant than the horse down the street from you because it could run fast.

As as far as tpaine, you must be the horse wisperer. After all, you could read it's mind when it "didn't want to go on" any longer.

Sure, it's newsworthy...but to have it leading off all over the place in this current timeframe regarding Iraq and everything else is a bit much.

i hear ya saint...other people agree, just ask Peng fan... they just don't want to argue about a dead horse who won the derby, broke his leg in the preakness, and was put down 8 MONTHS LATER

The real tragedy is that they did this to him instead of just putting him down when it was the right thing to do.

Not to beat a dead horse but for all you animal lovers you ought to go to Merck the pharmaceutical company and see what it feels like to hear dogs barking all day long and you know they were not being kept to give to families who love dog

i'll ask one more question on this issue of those of you that say it wasnt for the money(keeping him alive)

Was it so he could race again?

Was it so he could live a happy life in a barn/pasture somewhere?
