According to Boxrec, 4-0 heavy Kubrat Pulev, who already holds victories over Z.Page and G.Oloukun, sees action this weekend in Germany when he takes on 28-1 Oleg Platov in an 8 rounder.

I'm not sure we'll see odds on this one, but it will be interesting to see how Pulev does here.

Pulev's opponent now appears to be Matt Skelton.

?Gabriel Campillo was very disappointed that the world did not get to see the first fight? said Ricardo Sanchez Atocha, the manger and trainer of WBA champion. ?Apparently Mr. Shumenov did not want anyone to see how soundly he was beaten by my Champion. He clearly lost the first fight, and for him to claim otherwise, shows just how manipulative these people are. If they really think they won, I challenge them to release the video tape of the fight and let the media and the public see what happened. Hiding behind punch stat numbers, when you produced the show for television only to refuse to air it after you lost, is cowardly,? continued Atocha. ?Shumenov was being beaten from pillar to post by the twelfth round and just barely made the bell.?

I'm on Shumenov, but they make a good counterpoint here. Footage clearly exists of this fight, why is it NOWHERE to be found?

"If all goes well enough on Friday, Barry can also look forward to being a part of boxing history.
A win gives Shumenov a major title in just his 10th pro fight, easily eclipsing Jeff Harding's feat of getting there just 15 fights into his career ? not a bad way at all to claim your first championship as a trainer."

?Beibut lives the life of a professional. He?s a tremendous trainer. He hasn?t been more than five pounds overweight the entire time I?ve been with him. He?s a very gifted athlete. "

Didn't some reputable bystanders have Shu winning the fight? I can agree with these guys that Shu was very happy to see the final bell as he was totally gassed, but their take on the whole fight appears just a tad biased. I believe by most accts Shu was in command through the 1st 6.

If I remember correctly after the first fight, I read on fightnews that they scored it a draw.

A comprehensive analysis by highly-regarded punch stat compiler and analyst CompuBox supports Team Shumenov?s original contention, as well as the contention of the vast majority of fans in attendance, that Beibut Shumenov deserved to win a unanimous 12-round decision against Gabriel Campillo in their August 15, 2009 World Boxing Association (WBA) Light Heavyweight World Championship fight.

Campillo, however, was able to hold on to his WBA World Title by way of a controversial decision that was announced as unanimous but changed the following day to a majority decision (114-113 John Coyle, 113-113 Glenn Feldman, 115-111 Pasquale Procopio) when a scoring error was discovered. The controversy surrounding the scoring has led to their January 29 World Title rematch at The Joint at Hark Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.

According to CompuBox?s statistical breakdown of Campillo-Shumenov I, Shumenov landed more total punches and at a higher connect percentage (213 of 651 compared to Campillo?s 199 of 672), including a dominating 193-144 edge in power punches. CompuBox?s scoring gave Shumenov the first five rounds in addition to the eighth and ninth (10-8) for a 115-112 advantage.

?We always believed that Beibut won a close decision and we?re happy that the analysis by an independent organization like CompuBox fully supports us,? Chingis Shumenov, Co-Owner of KZ Event Productions said. ?Beibut is seeking redemption. We look forward to the rematch and are grateful that the WBA has sanctioned it.?

"the bunker"
played around a 5-1 longshot par(not quite 5-1) that`s gonna take some patience to get through...

mads larsen/maidana/kessler......really not sure what larsen has left...but,that might also be said of magee..and we have homecourt...

maidana is just one tough, hard to discourage s.o.b who can hurt you... first fight abroad for khan and in a 12 rounder,i like maidana to find the mark at some point...

kessler...he`s either gonna be my ticket to the promised land...or my waterloo....

if larsen folds,i just do maidana/kessler for a lesser payout...already have kessler straight for way too much...

Beibut Shumenov Sprints Toward Title Rematch With Gabriel Campillo
http://boxing.fanhouse.com/2010/01/...nts-toward-title-rematch-with-gabriel-campil/

"I'm not in over my head. I am ready. I'm ready to box at the highest levels," said Shumenov, whose past four fights have been against three world champions and a world title challenger whose combined records were 122-19-2, coming in.

"I've learned a lot from my last fight, but the last fight, I trained myself and I had no real strategy," said Shumenov. "I couldn't even judge the distance between my opponent and me."

"I'm working very hard on his accuracy, not wasting punches," said Barry. "I've worked on Beibut's defense -- his hands were a little low the first time, and I want to get his hands up a lot higher."

In addition, Barry said that he is improving Shumenov's footwork and upper-body movement.

"Beibut fights with the European style of standing up straight. So to improve his balance, I've been drilling him on getting him to bend his knees to sit down on his punches," said Barry. "We've made a lot of changes, and I feel that we're on the right track."

Shumenov agrees.

"This time, with Kevin Barry, we've made a lot of changes. We've sparred 174 rounds, and I'm a student of the game. I'm not afraid to learn new things. I'm not afraid to change," said Shumenov, who is self-managed.

"All of these rounds have served a purpose," said Shumenov. "We've worked on technique, and we've worked on some changes. This has been a dream of mine, to become a world champion."

from steve kim's blog:

But one particular fight stood out on the early schedule, and that takes place on February 20th in Acapulco, Mexico when the third installment of Giovanni Segura-Cesar Canchila takes place for the WBA jr. flyweight title. They split their first two fights and the second was shrouded in controversy as Segura scored a fourth round stoppage that seemed to come after the bell.

3rd fight ! Nice !
