From Steve Kim's Twitter:

"According to Arum, Yuri Gamboa will face Rogers Mtagwa on Jan23 in New York on Boxing After Dark with SLuevano-JuanMaLopez2:45 PM Oct 26th"

Good double-header
I am DONE betting UNDERS against Mtagwa
I would assume Gamboa's speed is too much for him, but Rogers was like a ROBOT from the freaking TERMINATOR movie against JuanMa
It was like when Dunne fought Cordoba-an almost out of body performance. I just can't imagine him re-creating that again.

Strange ticket pricing at Treasure Island this w/e. According to reports, ALL tickets are priced at $200 each! I'm not sure I recall this ever happening before, but I could be mistaken. I think it's a mistake to do this. $50-100 sells out quick most of the time. And these guys, except for die-hard fans, are not exactly household names. Maybe my thinking is off here, but I see empty seats abound, which means there should be scalping opportunities and also the promoters and teams send people out to sell tickets on an ad hoc basis if it ain't selling. I, once, at Mandalay Bay, encountered a Mexican women unable to speak English, holding a stack of $500 ticks. No shit. I bought one for $50 bucks I think it was. Crazy.

How big is the venue?
If it is small enough maybe they are thinking all seats are ringside :)
But it is definitely a mistake having the boxing card where your biggest name is Agbeko and the cheapest ticket is 200$. I don't remember a lot of cards held in TI. Maybe they don't now what they are doing.
Let me just add that I've been in Vegas two times, last time for my bachelor party. I'm crazy in love with the city and I'm pretty jealous when I read your posts :)

Well od, they say it's the first ever card at TI. Also I don't know the venue size but I think I need to go down there at give a look-see. Still, I don't care if it's a church basement, $200 across the board seems weird. But hey, what does a mental defective like me know. Weasel can attest to that.

Frankie, that is INSANITY. This is one of the biggest problems with boxing. I forwarded this info on to Steve Kim. He is having Don King on his radio show tonight on Maxboxing.com. Maybe he can get to the bottom of this.

How is the common fan supposed to attend a fight card? 200 fuking dollars?! I want to know if it is Don King, Treasure Island, or a combo of both deciding. Like you said, these guys are not household names. Only true boxing fans know them.

Steve Kim had an article awhile back about how the "casino" mentality is killing boxing. This show would be sold out with thousands of people in South Africa. Instead, King sticks it in Vegas and rips fans off.

Thanks for posting this info Frank. If that ticket price is true, there is going to be a lot of empty seats at Treasure Island. It's Halloween for godsake! They should be begging fans to attend. I thought tickets to this event would be like 50 bucks.

OK; here it is. In a ballroom venue; 953 total seats, that includes public seats, VIP holdbacks, and other assorted categories. They set up a portable ring and surround it with folding chairs; seats are assigned so first come, etc. Treasure Island was purchased by Ruffin and is a stand alone joint so that's one of the reasons for this strange arrangement. Were it still part of MGM-Mirage this would'nt happen. Also it seems these guys are one of the few places that want to deal with felon King. They feel the prices are justified otherwise it would not produce the required revenue. So far 1/2 seats are sold, this includes ALL categories, which means probably 75-100 public seats and the rest, who the fuk knows!

Wow. I don't know what to say. That's one expensive ticket.

Thanks Frank. I won't be making the drive to Vegas at that price. Can't imagine many will in this economy. This is a shame. Like I said, this fight fills an arena of 2000-3000 in South Africa. That's my guess. Remember Agbeko is South African and Perez just KO'ed South African star Silence Mabuza.

It's a good card but sure as hell not worth 2 Bens. Don't know what the promotion is thinking here. Is this one of those venues where you dine at a table @ ringside? Primm Nev offers one the most reasonable tickets in boxing. Got a primo seat for Kirkland/Albert, Angulo/Guti for 60.00. That was an HBO BAD card and the subsequent fights there were also very cheap.

Guess the suits figure being a party weekend; lots of people coming in town. I figure all the guys spending all the $$$$ are looking for 1/2 naked witches to spin some magic with and will be hitting the clubs and really aren't here looking to see 1/2 naked guys with scars and tatoos and sweaty balls and hairy asses. But what do I know?

Good competitive card on Saturday night. Agbeko-Perez seems very evenly matched. DeMarco should be a solid favorite against Alfaro, who seems unworthy of getting so many title opportunities. The Williamson-Austin fight should also be closely contested, but for it to be a title eliminator is painful. They just keep recycling these guys. They are 41 and 38 years old for cryin' out loud. Something about Williamson I like, but if Austin wins - and gets a shot at V.Klit after his abysmal performance against brother - that will be a tough sell.

Any thoughts on these fights, particularly Agbeko-Perez, would be appreciated. I've got a reasonably strong opinion, but will wait to see the odds first.

"the bunker"
watched some of perez vs mabuza....and perez sort of reminded me a little of old eusebio pedroza....angular...fights at a very consistent pace... doesn`t look like a big puncher...actually isn`t a big puncher, but his punches wear guys down.....no expression...

he rolls with punches...and never seems flustered or bothered...he`s like the chinese water torture...drip,drip,drip....

agbeko`s pace vs perez` steadiness....interesting match-up....

$24.95 for Camacho Jr. vs. Campas. You have got to be shittin' me. If they slashed the 24 from the price, and sold the event for 95 cents, I would be hardpressed. That said, if any odds show they should be reasonably close.

I think, if I read correctly, that for the 7 bucks to King, you will get the Williamson-Austin fight, but also the N.Linares, DeLaRosa, and Bermane Stiverne fights. If so, not bad for the price. How is Stiverne anyhow? I've haven't seen much of him. He's a big fukker, but the draw against Charles Davis certainly does ot bode well.
