Looked this over and agree 1000% Q.

Canelo iced him 60 short days ago

Melian only stopped by Abregu and Saldivia (much harder punchers)

I would actually be surprised if Baldi wins this....judges should be a factor here

Let's do this.
:toast:

On this one with you guys :0074
LETS GO MELIAN :toast: :toast: :toast:

I imagine we'll be getting this result late tonight.

A. Funes Melian (+260) - BIG Good spot for the unlikely upset. Melian has been a journeyman, but he seems to be improving lately. Victory over Mexican prospect M.Reyes and tough 12 round go with M.Rosales, who is a good fighter, show where he's at. Baldomir is almost 40, he's been inactive, and hasn't had a 'real' win since he beat Arturo Gatti in 2006! He looked old, and could not get off in last fight vs. Canelo, before getting ko'd hard. Now, I know Melian is not Canelo, but I still think the timing is right. Also, and this is a biggie, fight is in Melian's hometown of San Juan, where he is 9-0!

Good luck fellas! Saturday picks to come.

nice,quanah....you`re the master at digging out obscure doggies....i`m shocked that baldomir is jumping back in so fast after a relatively inactive 2 years...

thanks much for sharing...:0008

Former welterweight world champion Carlos ?Tata? Baldomir (45-13-6, 14 KOs) won a ten round split decision over fellow Argentinean Amilcar Funes (22-9, 17 KOs) in a jr middleweight bout on Friday night at the Estadio Aldo Cantoni in San Juan, Argentina. Baldomir started off strong and finished strong while Funes appeared to do enough to win the middle rounds. The official scores were 99-93 and 98-97 for Baldomir and 98-96.5 for Funes.

98-97??? dont think Ive ever seen that. That's a lot of tied rds. The guy was 9-0 in his hometown and looks as if the officials were at least attempting to give him rds. We lost but considering the nice plus odds, not a bad play. On to a BIG day tomorrow.

Got home late, and just watched the Baldomir-Melian fight. I'm a bit gutted, because I really thought we had something here.

Fight went down like this: Could have gone either way, and I'm surprised it didn't go for Melian in his hometown. Melian was very effective defensively but didn't throw enough friggin' punches. VERY frustrating to watch, because fight was there for the taking. Baldomir was very slow, but still stole some rounds by simply sticking out his jab. Melian connected with cleaner shots, but would go for long periods without throwing - damn it! I was yelling at him to 'get off first'. Every time there was a stand-off, Baldomir would get off first by sticking out the jab. I had the fight scored 6-4 for Melian, and I really thought he was gonna get it - especially with hometown in favor. He snapped Baldomir's head back many times, and I really thought he deserved it, if only barely. Tough loss, as I really thought I saw something here.

That would've been a big win for me. Time to regroup.

Saturday plays

Saturday plays

Edgar Sosa (-325) - BIG Got what I consider to be great opening odds here. Hope nothing crazy happens. Okubo looks limited, doesn't have the punch to KO Sosa, and is a long way from home in Mehico. Don't think Sosa falters here.

Sergio Martinez (+100) - BIG Genuine even money fight here. I'm playing a strong sense that Martinez is gonna come up big. Pavlik win was a breakout for him, and he will be fighting with great confidence. Paul Williams is a special talent, but the Cintron fight, although he won, disturbed me a bit. If Kermit wasn't a frog, jumping out of the ring as he did, I'm not sure Williams was even gonna win. He was VERY sloppy in that fight. Williams is a fighter who takes a lot of shots, and he may just be showing the effects of that a bit already. If Williams is not technically exceptional, Martinez will capitalize. Martinez will have the best night of his career and win clearly.

Justin Savi (+140) - BIG Savi is a bit of an unknown, but he did dominate Cyril Thomas in France, knocking him down in the 2nd and causing Thomas to quit after 7. Previous to this fight, Cyril Thomas was nip and tuck with then champion Cristobal Cruz. Savi also has another solid win against a good African fighter named Osumanu Akaba. I think he is for real. Garza is improved. KO win over Enoki in Japan was a good one. Not so long ago though, he was a fighter easily outboxed by good, not great fighters. Believing Savi is the real deal, I think he gets it done in a tough fight.

I'm probably gonna add another small play or two, but this is the crux of it.

Good luck my brothers!

welcome back franks!!!

I'm tempted to play Martinez, but paul williams will enjoy hometwon advantage and this could prove to be crucial like in the first fight!!

Hope you are right. Greetings to you also! If you go to boxingscene.com., under "top headlines", scroll down a bit to the "pre-fight report card". It's a good read and what bothers me is that they are 29-12 here! And they like Martinez. As ghost said, beating Pavlik, the "town drunk" is nothing to write home about. This is nerve wracking!

Beating Pavlik doesnt mean too much, true!

But as Quanah pointed out, it looks as though Williams might have taken too many shots already!

and BTW, I'm not sure if the weights of the fighters 30 days before the fight actually is an advantage for Williams.
IMO it shows that Williams is the smaller man! And Martinez being 20 lbs heavier with his clothes doesnt mean that he wont be in good shape!

BTW, the draw is obviously a strong possibility!!

if you watch ring life with both fighters on hbo, martinez looks like he's really gearing up with cross training

how intense is pauls work.. we dont get to see much. him punching a heavy bag.. talking about real estate. maybe it's a southern thing, he sure is taking thangs easay know what im sayin

if sergio gets cooking, no way paul's face stays from being split open, i remember the cuts from the first fight

i think pwill has flatlined after the margarito fight, it doesnt seem he has the same fire

im betting martinez cuz i think he's going to up his game and pwill will just fight PLAIN DUMB

:0074 Good post thongie...and I gotta agree!

I also don't like how Williams is talking Pacquiao. He's got no business thinking about Pacquiao when he's got Martinez in front of him.

One more play

One more play

Rodrigo Guerrero (+160) - small Evenly matched fight, and I like the plus odds. Guerrero is very tough. He took a good pounding against Darchinyan, but was in the fight the whole time. Also a couple solid victories over L.Maldonado and JA Rosas, who is now a champion. Martinez can look very sharp, but was also completely outclassed against Nonito Donaire. I think Guerrero is the more sturdy guy.

Guess PW is writing this one off and thinking about bigger/smaller things? If PW is 110% tonite, he is history.
