My plays so far this week...

My plays so far this week...

Steve O'Meara -135 - Large
I realize these fights are only 3 rounds and that is one of the reasons I like O'Meara here. He is faster and has the height and reach advantage. I have watched Martin Concepcion in 3 fights (gomez, pryce, and hammond) and he looks very beatable. Also, as Mr Houston reported Martin Concepcion just fought 3 weeks ago in a gruelling 10-rounder where he took some heavy shots and Steve O?Meara has trained in the U.S. and even managed to get a sparring session with Floyd Mayweather Jr. in Las Vegas. Speed kills here. O'Meara UD of 29-28 or 30-27.

Jones vs Bruseles Under 7.5 -140 - Medium
Mike Jones has been on TV many times and he seems to have decent power. Jones is a natural welterweight and has a significant height advantage of ~4'' and reach advantage of ~5'' over Bruseles who is a natural junior welterweight. Jones has been very active, whereas Bruesles has been realative inactive. Also, I think Brusles has shown a questionable chin in the past. MJ TKOs El Nitro in 5-6 rounds.

More to come...

Marvin Sonsona +180 - Large
Marvin, a southpaw, is moving up 7 pounds to face Wilfredo Vazquez Jr, son of the great, 3 different weight divisions champion Wilfredo Vazquez Sr. Marivin, trained by Nonito Donaire Sr., is only 19, but actually has more experience than his opponent. Wilfredo Jr. picked up boxing at 21 without any amatuer experience and never to my knowledge faced a southpaw. Also, Marvin has faced slightly better opponents. Wilfredo Jr. has a tendency to hold his hands low then use his quick feet and reflexes to jump in and land hard right hands, but he reaches many times without having good position and then is vulenerable to counters by his opponents especially since he won't be used to seeing Marvin's southpaw punching angles. If Sr. was fighting Marvin, I'd pick him, but Jr. is no Sr. and in my opinion unprepared for this fight.

If no more lines for other fights come out that will be it. I do like Gabriel Rosado to win and Micheal Walker by KO. Let me know if anyone sees a line on these ones.

Good Luck Guys! :00x2

I like Sonsona as well, though I have to admit its more a gut feeling...
Its strange, but even though he is the one moving up 7 lbs, I think he might be too strong for Vazquez...

I'm not so sure about the prizefighters this time (not that I was ever very sure about a prizefighter tourney anyway)... a lot can happen in 3 round fights....

from steve kim's twitter:

"March 27 bout between Abraham and Dirrell to take place at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit"

so Dirrell gets a home bout after all....

odds from bwin:

Prizefighter winner - 21:00
Turniersieger
Bradley Pryce (WAL) 3.50

Neil Sinclair (NIR) 4.25

Steve O'Meara (ENG) 6.50

Prince Arron (ENG) 7.50

Danny Butler (ENG) 7.50

Brett Flourney (ENG) 11.00

Martin Concepcion (ENG) 14.00

George Hillyard (ENG) 20.00

unfortunately, so far only the European bookies have odds on the tourney winner!

Who do you pick?

It doesn't look like I'll be able to place a wager on it, but I'll go with Danny Butler to take the tourney here. At +650 I'd play a feeling that Butler will perform well against a relatively weak field. I thought he performed reasonably well against Barker on 3 days notice, and he nearly beat McDermott. He should find going easier here. Also has trained down to JM and has prizefighter experience. In general, he seems to be young and on upswing, which is more than I can say for the rest of these guys. His 1st rd opponent - Flourney, is a bit of an unknown, and undefeated. This may be Butler's toughest fight.

with Dirrell claiming back injury, now sounds that bullshit excuse is all part of the plan to have gotten the fight right in Dirrells backyard. They prob figured they got screwed in Nottingham even though Dirrell ran and held to the max. Trainer Uli Wegner and Abraham are no dummies. Wegner already claimed suspicion stating how did Dirrel know his back injury would be fine in 3 weeks, with Wegner having to trek back to Germany for Huck's fight, with a turnaround now to Detroit. I hope Abraham leaves the runner in a heap on the canvas.
