Very funny Jones rant. He thinks Hopkins is gone but I think he might be.

What happened to the articulate intelligent announcer RJ once was on HBO just a few short yrs back??? He looks and sounds like he's gotten into Oliver McCalls stash. In fact when I first saw this pic of him, I thought it was the Atomic Bull.:142smilie

Oh No....HERE WE GO

"Laurence Cole to Referee Abraham-Dirrell

There had been a dispute because the originally appointed referee came from Michigan. The judges come from Italy, Michigan and Thailand."
http://www.boxingscene.com/?m=show&opt=printable&id=26343

Abraham's camp may have done themselves more harm then good here. I can see it already....remember the Marquez fight with Terdsack?

"Andre, you are up on the cards....do you want to stop the fight?"

Edwin Valero was arrested in Venezuela for assaulting his wife...she reportedly has a collapsed lung and several bruises. Valero showed up at the emergency room and threatened staff members: per Boxingscene.

What a tool. The guy has the makings for being the #1 most exciting fighter on the planet and he pulls this shit. Innocent until proven guilty but throw the book at this piece of garbage. Inexcusable behavior. The guy doesn't deserve a boxing license, to say the very least.

Yes my friend, good point. Lot's of 'even' type fights that could go either way... Better to keep it simple in situations like this.

Weekend plays

Weekend plays

Arthur Abraham (-205) - big
Abraham has made a believer out of me. He is one tough sob, one of those guys that always finds a way to win. I did believe in Dirrell, but now... If Froch made him run, how will he react when Abraham keeps coming?

Matthew Hatton (-240) - big Check Romi's cap in an earlier post. Hatton in good form. If he comes in the same way he did against N'dou, he looks solid here.

Also got Hatton and Abraham parlayed.

Ali Funeka (-185) - small He was just so dominant the first time. He will not get screwed on the scorecards again. I think Guzman is at last slipping. He's a small lightweight, Funeka is a huge one. I don't think Guzman's style work's against the freak.

Takalani N'dlovu (+400) - med/small Doggie shot of the week here. Good cap by Graham. Something has gone out of Molitor, courtesy of Caballero. Molitor dominated first fight, but I don't think he's the same guy (SD over H.Ruiz was ugly). N'dlovu in recent good form, and I think he's got a better than 4 to 1 shot to pull this off.

Cermeno-Moreno OVER 11.5 (-140) - med/small Over/unders have been irritating me lately, and 11.5 is a long way to go... but this has all the makings of a distance fight.

Sitsamerchai-Kuroki also looks to go over 11.5... The key's are Abraham and Hatton. If they come thru, good week...

Good luck boys!!!
Let's get'em

I am not going on any of these fights, but since there are so many 'even' fights this week, I'm gonna give my picks just for fun sake. I don't have a strong sense about any of these, but here it goes:

Nkosinathi Joyi over Raul Garcia - Odds should be closer, but I like Joyi. At even money I would've gone on him, but not at this price.

Kameda over Pongsaklek - Kameda will be severely tested, but I think he eeks out a very close decision.

Kretschmann over Bahktov - I mean who gives a shit really. This is a 3rd rate hw fight. If Glass Joe doesn't get knocked out here, he will when he steps up. I suppose Kretsch gets it back here, and I'm not sure Bakhtov is even coming to win. At -240 I will stay very far away.

A.Moreno over N.Cermeno - I am a Moreno fan, so I'll go with him. His fight against frenchman Monshipour was tougher than expected though, and Cermeno is a notch up. Both are excellent fighters, and this is a true toss-up. Homefield for Cermeno could be the difference, but I'll go with the road warrior Moreno to slick it out by a point.

HH Garay over C. Henry - I think Garay, if he comes in in shape, is world-class. In sight, his close loss to Campillo doesn't look so bad. I like Henry as a tough and tenacious fighter, but the loss to Yusaf Mack may have shown some limitations. I'll say Garay comes in ready and reestablishes himself.

J.Alfaro over E.Morales - At first I was big on Alfaro, but as fight approaches I am swaying. How shot is Morales? I'm gonna say weight loss, time off, and the after effects of a long hard career does Morales in. Alfaro has been active, and although a bit plodding, he does hit hard. A sort of David Diaz type. Morales should have taken a couple of very light tune-ups first.

Fun weekend!!!

Shocked Garay was + 160 , after watching Campillo school a somewhat limited but still all balls Beibut Shumenov I don't think it's a shame losing to him by 1 point on 2 scorecards and a draw . That being said I don't know much about Henry but he lost to Mack who looked like a bum against the old man Glen in his recent TKO loss . Like you say if Garay comes in shape and motivated there is no way he is + 160 dog .

i have to disagree with my buddy quanah on king arthur...

styles make fights and dirrell`s style means potential trouble,imo...

his closest fight to date(with the exception of the bogus broken jaw win over miranda) was vs a shot taylor in his own country...took him the full 12 to get rid of taylor, who basically stands in front of his opponents these days....wasn`t a blowout...

now he comes to dirrell`s backyard to face a young, naturally bigger, faster lefty....4 inch height disadvantage...2nd fight at super middle.....vs a guy,who many think beat froch on his own turf...

abraham`s a slow starter....might be really tough to win a decision vs this style...he may have to stop dirrell....

this has a sort of ward/kessler feel about it to me...

i think dirrell`s well worth the shot at +170 .....

all that said, quanah`s on bigtime roll... ...hate going the other way...

i think this determines whether king arthur is a "truly" elite fighter...and whether dirrell becomes the next chad dawson ...or more of a zab judah/taylor "below elite" type of fighter...

100% agree with you. Actually at opening I saw Garay +210. I would actually slightly favor Garay here. The loss the Mack is a very bad one, and Shaun George ain't shit. This is a coin flip. Slight lean toward the Hungarian. Those who got +210 - stick with it.

Great stuff Quanah and GW
Excellent analysis on both sides of Abraham-Dirrell. My pick in a minute, but first my thoughts on the rest of the weekend:

You guys are braver than me, betting on Matthew Hatton
:mj07: :mj07: :mj07:

But I think you all win...Branco is a joke
He was clearly getting beat by Toppola until that bogus hometown stoppage. Brother Hatton on points.

Other bouts:

Molitor is a complete dud and washed up. I give Ndoluvu a good chance in the rematch. PLAY NDOLUVU

Anthony Small should win, but I don't trust him. His last fight was one of the worst boxing matches in years. NO PLAY

Joyi and Garcia - both complete studs. The South African location may dip it Joyi's way. Real fighters here. Great great match. PLAY JOYI

Maidana is a beast, but guess what? He is fighting a solid cat - the very slick, very under-rated Victor Cayo. I like the price on the dog. This fight will be sweet!

I agree with weepaul on Guzman. He might be able to improve greatly in the rematch. Funeka better not come in over confident in this one. NO PLAY

Moreno and Cermeno - both incredible fighters. Another epic fight. Can't pick a winner here. Will download and watch this one Monday. NO PLAY

Morales is completely shot, but he is fighting a pretty big stiff in Alfaro. Alfaro has a bit of quit in him, and although younger and way more active, Morales has more balls in his pinky finger than Alfaro does in his whole body. And the biggest factor. The fight is at 147, a new weight for both men. No thanks. Too tough to predict. NO PLAY

Garay and Henry. Two crazy fighters. This could end nasty. Both guys stand in the phone booth and HAMMER away. Very well matched fight on paper. Hard to predict. Both have power and good chins. Lean Garay (especially at the plus number). NO PLAY

Kameda vs. Wonjongkam. Young stud vs. old stud. I go young. Also, Oleydong on the undercard, who I've been impressed with. PLAY KAMEDA

Steffen Kretschmann. This mother'fer ruined my 2009. Let's see what he has - this fight, I believe, is going to make me laugh till I piss - no matter what the result. NO PLAY
