Congrats to Lord and Crow who were big winners with Maidana.

I know this is easy to say in hindsight, but what if the F were Golden Boy thinking picking Maidana as an opponent?

Poor little Victor....I like this kid a lot....but he said it....he's not cut out for this game....

Wish I knew this before I put my money down on him

someone said this a few months back
but you really can't be nice in boxing

people say Pacquiao is nice.....he's not when he gets in there
watch him
his whole demeanor changes
he is an assassin

great great fighters are killers in there
you have to go to a scary place to be an extraordinary boxer

Ortiz just doesn't have it. He was trying so damn hard, but he was totally gone after that first knockdown.

Reminded me of Trinidad-Vargas. This kid's world got changed tonight.

I'm happy he chose to go out like that. He lost me a lot of money, but he avoided a savage KO. He just doesn't respond well to be punched.

Shows how solid Kotelnik is beating Maidana , even with a bit of home cooking ...
Kotelnik vs Amir Khan in July could be interesting ... especially if Kotelnik can land something on Khan's glass jaw :mj07:

I was thinking the same.
I keep hearing that Kotelnik is one of the worst champions.
But this guy is solid in every way, and his defence and technique is good!

Concerning Maidana Ortiz:
Ortiz really looked like a future superstar coming into this fight.
But I honestly thought I missed something when I saw the odds for this fight.
I should have bet more, but thats in retrospection of course.

So, Ortiz said that he doesnt want to be a boxer.
:142smilie :142smilie
Maybe he's in shock, but when do you hear a boxer say things like this!? I would be happy if Tsurkan said something along these lines though.

Well, and Oscar, he really rolled the dice on this kid. Both fighters might have become champions anyways and could have fought then with a real title at stake and for millions.
Now the Ortiz train suffered a severe accident before it really got going.

Victoria's Secret
:mj07:

with all the money ortiz's managers and GBP have groomed him with

they must want to punch themselves in the face hearing victor's words of consolation

prolly all that pressure to become next golden boy was too much + a hungry argentine fighter

i got my ass kicked today so im gonna sit out til ufc

lucky i pulled some winnings out but wish i hadnt flushed such an amount away thinking ortiz was a sure thing

i thought victor could battle back from ADVERSITY in the ring like he has outside of it

I think you and Thongie are being a little tough on Victor. Just doesn't have it? If he was totally gone after the first knockdown then I don't think he would have dropped Maidana twice in the second. If the 2nd round had twenty more seconds.......Ortiz had him in some serious trouble. I just think he was in there with an extreme badass who is not nearly as crude as he looks- hit's very hard with both hands. That left hook that Maidana crunched him with that cut his eye....5th round I think was on the button and Vic kept battling. Vic also has to realize he was in there with a badass and 90% of other opponents would have been done in by Vic's firepower.

I should have known, this +200 on Vanes by dec in a 10 rd fight looked too good to be true. Poor Tsurkan paid with his health his corner's bravery in the Angulo fight.

Maidana won me some dough, but i lost overall, as i had the over here too.

Ortiz blew it in my mind, he had Maidana in the second, then blew it even more during the interviews.

You can't come in the ring as emotionnally charged as him, you need to be cold as ice.
Maidana more than deserved this, i knew this kid was a superstar in the making.

Fed can still make it rain for me next sunday.

a great fighter would step up

not fold like Ortiz

Ortiz folded like sapp(this is probably way too harsh a statement) :mj07:

We were all treated to a great fight last night and probably FOTY with a 1st rd ROTY and SOMEHOW both fighters get accused of quitting at some point in the fight :142smilie. It's very easy for us to say what fighters should or should not do especially when we have dough on it and we're not the onestaking the punches. I know I get caught up in it. Those were missiles these guys were taking last night. As far as I'm concerned there was no quit in either guy. Maidana was hurt bad at the end of rd 2 and perhaps saved by the bell and for a split second he considered calling it a night. But he fought on through hell and somehow came out on top. Ortiz got drilled with a picture perfect right in rd 1. He was hurt BAD yet he found the heart to fight on and was actually bringing it on by the end of the rd. He more than came back from that shot and several other hard shots. Maidana is VERY heavy handed. I said at the end of 5 that Ortiz was essentially out and he would be stopped in the next rd. He should not have gone out for rd 6 when he could have said no mas in the corner. Max put him on the spot in front of thousands of Mexicans who demand their fighters go out on their shield. They didn't take to Ortiz' comments too well. I think he's a young very articulate and smart kid. He saved his own ass to fight on another day. Instead of putting Ortiz on the spot, Max should have just thanked him for a GREAT fight and wished well in the future.

It's true Romi, but I still think that Ortiz behaved a little odd.

There is that saying that a fighter needs to have the attitude that he is willing to die in the ring...ok thats obviously a bit over the top, but I'm not sure if ortiz is willing to make the sacrifices that are required from the elite...

The kid is brutally honest and that's a rarity. What you see is what you gets and he wears it on his sleeve. Ortiz was a bruised and beaten fighter @ the end of rd 5. He already gave everything he had. He KNEW he couldn't win the fight @ that point so why risk further injury? Had he made an attemt to fight on @ the time of the stoppage he would have been savagely kod. There is no question about it. He was very candid and probably too much so in the interview. He was clearly dazed from the 1st kd and he fought on despite not having fully recovered from it. He laughingly said he wants to be able to talk the way he does now when he gets older. To be honest I think he's too smart for the sport. He's fully aware of the brutality of it. To that extent he may not be cut out for championship material but you got to blame his people for unwisely taking on such a strong tough mofo like Maidana. Many "great" fighters have great handlers that know better than to take those kind of unneccessary fights...just my .02.

Ortiz chin is not granite but I think Maidana's punching power is overated.
He is made to order for Ortiz and I expect a blow out. This is not powder puff punching Kotelnik hitting him this time.

Good luck.
:mj07: :mj07: Just call me Nostra Fukin Dumb Ass

Congrats to the guys on the other side :toast:

Maidana's future looks great; i can't say for sure about Ortz; Mexicans won't like what transpired and might look at him as a golden boy ersatz, whose heart isn't really into it.
There's the possibility that after falling off the limelight in a big way he will just take the Bojado route.

EDIT: Ortiz gives yet more disturbing signs:

"Ortiz didn't envision he would cast doubt on whether he actually just gave up.

"I was ready to keep going, but when the ref said no, I said, 'All right, I'm not going to fight,' " Ortiz said. "If I was going to sit here and say I'm not hurt, I'm lying. But as far as me going in there and giving it more, I'm up for it."
