And the 4th is even better, Jhonny drops him hard. LEft hook right on the chin. But Asiku is smart, dashes around the ring , clears his head, both guys in great shape. Stilli in the balance, Jhonny used up a lot of gas trying to finish the guy

2-2 now, with Jhonny up a point, scoring a knockdown in 4th. Jhonny I thought stood his ground in 3rd. Was losing 4th, until he connected on Asiku coming in. Asiku went jiggy, and danced the rest of the round. Jhonny wins big, but maybe a little tired at end. Good fight!

Jhonny decks him twice more in the 5th and Asiku survives! Props to Bayless for letting this warrior continue. Nacho has helped Jhonny. Round 6 starts!!

Ova in the 6th, Jhonny looked better than ever IMO. Asiku came to win

Featherweight 126 is back, and Jhonny is in the mix. Left hook, major weapon, have to take that away if you fight Jhonny.

G-zus!!! Ref steps in and stops it in 6th. KO win for Gonzales. I say the stoppage sucks. Asiku against the ropes, but still on his feet, winging shots and fighting hard. He was probably going to get ko'd, but he'd already proved he can take a punch and keep going. After such a spirited scrap, at least give him the opportunity to go out on his shield! Disappointing and too quick ending for a great fight!

KO6 Gonzales

Well, now that I see the replay, I'll backtrack a little on the stoppage comments. Asiku was on very shaky legs there, had already been down 3 times, and was wide open. Still came too soon, but he was gonna get knocked out.

All and all an excellent performance for Gonzales. Asiku came out very hard, Gonzales stayed in there and professional, and eventually overworked him!

anchondo must need a payday...:sadwave: right away i went to the round prop in this one(o/u 5.5 at all my outs)....unfortunately,it seems everyone with a modicum of durability has been able to go rounds with hernandez(with the exception of corley)...hernandez not a huge puncher....

but anchondo is so lame...

curious to hear some opinions from the board...is lorenzo parra shot?...the guy used to be a very effective boxer...i believe that arce is somewhat diminished himself....

parra`s used to fighting on the road...is arce just too strong?...parra`s been at the weight longer than arce...

+475....that`s tempting to me...

and baldomir at + almost 900?...up till now,the guy`s been nearly impossible to stop...he`ll definitely make alvarez work for it..alvarez hasn`t been in with anybody remotely as physical as baldomir...

any thoughts?..

btw..interesting o/u`s in all 3 fights...

I thought about Parra. At the end of the day, I have to go with Arce. He's been much more active, and Parra the opposite. Still, at +475 Parra might be worth just a little. Parra seems to have shown some clear signs of slipping though.

I think Alvarez will have too much for Baldomir. Didn't he celebrate with a retirement fight recently?

Friday picks

Friday picks

I have a couple big plays tonight:

Edren Dapudong (-140) - big I like this kid Dapudong. He's a young guy, and seems to be quickly improving. In some video I saw, he looked sensational. Quick, good instincts, and very accurate puncher. I think this kid has some star quality. Check out his KO1 over highly-regarded J.Jimenez on youtube. It was clear from the opening bell who the superior fighter was, and fight was over just like that. He was just so much faster than Jimenez, and I think the case will be the same against Uicab. I've seen Uicab, in his workmanlike decision over A.Hernandez a few years back. He's tough, but straight ahead, nothing exceptional. Fight a hometown one for Uicab, but I think the class difference will tell early on.

Alisher Rahimov (-115) - big Rahimov finally getting some attention. He's a former Olympian, and has barely lost a round as a pro. Holds a clear victory over O.Yefimovich, which looked more special before Yefi's last fight. Still, I think Rahimov is the goods. Perea is undefeated, but also untested. He was challenged in his last fight against a comebacking Mexican journeyman. It's hard to know with the Mexican fighters before they step up, but Perea will have to be very good to beat Rahimov.

EA Farias (-260) - small Gotta feel confident taking the home fighter in Argentina. Another chick fight, but Farias has been more impressive than Acosta from last week. I get the sense that she is the real deal. N.Woods is a tough girl, but she loses whenever she steps up. Don't see how she'll be able to overcome Argentina.

In regards to the Hernandez-Anchondo fight... I was all set to take Hernandez if odds would have been acceptable, but they're not. I think Hernandez is a B-level fighter. He has been challenged numerous times (Tackie, Carson Jones) against fighters a real contender should take care of. He was also on his way to getting ko'd by R.Garcia before cut. I don't think much of Anchondo, and thought he was all washed up at 130lbs years ago. I thought he would look very thick and out of shape at welter but he doesn't. He actually looks more muscular at welter than he did at 130 years ago. for Hernandez' part, he looked gangly and gaunt at the weight. Hernandez should win this, but I think +800 is well worth the fun, and Anchondo will find a way to make this interesting.

Good luck fellas!
Big Saturday to come!

Anchondo sucked shit at 135 and I expect him to suck more shit at 147

As for the Russian, he better be able to fight HIS ASS OFF fighting in Cancun, Mexico....against an undefeated kid with a local following....on Mexican Independence weekend. Yikes.

a real A level fighter croaks anchondo....hernandez isn`t at that level...i agree with ghost that anchondo sucks...and these comebacks seldom bear fruit....

i would be surprised if mighty mike shows anything significant...but at those odds,i wouldn`t blame anyone for taking a flyer...who knows...

jumped on dong straight at 5 dimes (-110...he`s -160 at brobury).....and parred rahimov(-140) at brobury based on quanah`s opinion...

alvarez has talent..but he`s been uber-protected...he`s fought 32 times at welter and has yet to sniff a real contender,,,

i`ve seen him buzzed badly by less than A level fighters...

when does the guy start fighting legit contenders?...it`s not like the welterweight division is bereft of talent...

they picked baldomir because he`s considered over the hill...but he just might be alvarez` toughest fight to date...he`s limited...but his toughness is without question...

he should win...but imo,he`s still unproven ......

g.l. to everyone...

I think the process with Alvarez is that he's still just a kid, only 20. He's been ridiculously active lately, and has actually dominated a pretty good standard of opposition. (Cuello, E.Gonzales, L.Tyner, M.Rosales). I do think he's the real deal, but his fight against Cotto was less than stellar, kind of a wake up call, and maybe a lot of pressure on him on the big stage. Gotta respect Baldomir, but I think his plodding style, and age, will make it tough for him against young gun. He seems to be slipping though. I consider Baldomir a reasonable test for the kid, but not a true contender fight. Fight certainly made for the kid to win, and he'd better, if he's got a future on the big stage.

Good luck on Dapudong and Rahimov Weasel! Ghost brings up a good point about Mexican Independence weekend. They really put their guys in tough though. Fight card will be viewable on ESPN3 - online, by the way. Starts at 8:30 I think.

No line on the N'Dou-Mwelase fight from S. Africa yet. That's all right with me, as I don't know who wins it, and there certainly is enough to choose from this weekend. Pretty high-level fight though, and on a slower week we probably would have seen it.

There's also a pretty good Japanese card on Sunday which could get a look:

Uchiyama-Mukhlis
Kono-T.Rojas
Migaki-Kanai
Fukuhara-Tanada
Kaneshiro-Angkota
