What kind of psycho would not want to play in The Open or the Ryder Cup? I'd sacrifice pretty much anything down to my boxers to have a chance to play. I've totally lost all respect for good ol'Kenny. Next vacation to Yankland I'm coming looking for him ;). Same goes to Hoch. Hope the crowd give him hell.

The weather is looking pretty tame. From what I've heard the course remains very similair to '92 conditions bar added length at 2 par 3's. Coupled with all the rain this summer you'd have to think that scoring should be lower than normal.

Has anyone else been reading David Tindall's Open Diary at Sportinglife.com? While mildly informative it's interesting to note the bizarre behaviour of Allenby/Appelby.

Matchup plays (1.5 units unless stated):

Michael Campbell to beat Niclas Fasth -110 @ Sportingbet
Campbell is in great form in Europe - his last five finishes read 3rd, 16th, 4th, 1st and 6th. It is no surprise that he leads Fasth 5-0 in common European events over the last three months. A good links player, he should have another very good week.

Michael Campbell to beat Justin Rose -110 @ Carib or WIT
Just don't see a good week from Rose, particularly not in this event given the pressure of expectation after his 1999 debut. Too erratic for me. He has missed the cut and won the next event four times this year! And on two other occasions he has followed a missed cut with a top-5 finish. After his top-5 finish last week, he looks a decent bet to miss the cut on this year's form.

Padraig Harrington to beat Darren Clarke -110 @ Surrey
In better form, Clarke would have been hopeful of winning this title. His record on links golf is excellent. But so is that of Harrington, and with a head-to-head record in Europe of 5-1 over the past three months and 10-4 over the past year, I'll back Harrington again this week.

Colin Montgomerie to beat Darren Clarke +100 @ Sporting Odds
Monty is still a long way from his best, but is still looking more competitive than he has done for at least a year. A decent, consistent record in the Open and a 7-0 head-to-head against Clarke in Europe over the past three months is enough for me.

Colin Montgomerie to beat Justin Rose -122 @ Five Dimes [3 units]
Top-25 for Monty; a struggle to make the cut for Rose. The logical play if this is what I believe.

Eduardo Romero to beat Justin Rose -111 @ Sporting Odds
A little wary of siding with last week's winner, but he has a good record in links golf, is far more consistent and has a 3-month head-to-head advantage of 5-1 over the Englishman.

Tom Lehman to beat Brad Faxon -130 @ Aces
While Faxon struggled around Loch Lomond last week, Lehman finished impressively in 6th place. Has an extremely impressive record in Scotland, at Loch Lomond and in this event, and should revel in the links golf.

Milpalm! Thank you for letting me know that Perry had withdarwn. Now I may make another play w/out having had to go the weekend without action. That would have been awful. Might have gotten the DT"S with tremors.

I am not getting involved much until the in-running starts..... and if Tiger is streaking away may not bother with that!

Just had a couple of small stakes on Faxon (125/1 Tote) as he always enthuses about The Open and Romero (100/1 bet365 & 135 betfair) his recent form is rock solid and even though consecutive week winners are rare I would hate to miss him after securing 30 & 26 in-running on him last week.

My bismarck would have to be Faldo!

Helpful link ormond, cheers :).

Does anyone know where I can find Hole in One stats? There seems to be quite a price variance this week. With the wind looking fairly tame the 1st couple of days I think we may see a couple. Any thoughts?

Muirfield, here I come

Muirfield, here I come

Well, I have not posted for a while...but here are my plays for Thursday. I am making an assumption that some of the famous Scottish winds will play some havok, and my picks favor, to some degree, the low ball players, and those that seem to have a good touch around the greens....

3-Balls [Thursday matches]

1. Craig Perks over Perry and Olazabal [4:1] - could you believe he made 4 pars in the final round of the Players Campionship abd still won??? [No Play as Perry failed to tee-off, but Perks beat Ollie by 1 stroke]

2. Shingo over Duval and Bjorn [3.35:1] - Duvall is toast right now, having broke up with his girl-friend, and it showed at the US Open. This will be just as tough. Shingo seems to play well wherever he shows up...[Push: -3, +1, -3]

3. Justin Leonard over Weir and Howell [2:1] - simply a better player, and with a good B.O. record. [Won: even, +2, +2]

4. Peter Lonard over Lyle and Sjoland [2.10:1] - Lyle is an also ran for several years now, and Lonard is a tough competitor.
[Lost: +3, -3, -2]

2-Balls [entire tournament matches]

1. Price over Love [2:1] - Love hits a high ball, and will fight the wind. Could be a factor, however, if the week is calm...

2. Mickelson over Els [2:1] - Els seems a bit off his top form this year, and Mik has that magic touch around the greens...

Top European [for the tournament]

1. Nick Faldo [14:1] - could not resist this due to his record at Muirfield...and a decent price...

I am not playing Tiger vs. the field...

I will be visiting Scotland in August, arriving on the 20th. Will be playing Muirfield at some point. Anyone know of any good courses around Oban/Glasgow/Ayr, please recommend...

As I will be playing as a single for a couple of days, anyone who may be in the area and wishing to play a round or two, let me know...

Good Luck -- IP:)

Added: [tournament]

1] Garcia +100 over Els

2] Dimarco +140 over Toms

3] Leonard +100 over Toms

4] Monty +120 over Harrington

Go DOGS...

Will do a little unofficial 3balls as 365 threw up this little challenge I couldn't refuse.

"Back any outright 3-ball winner in a single at Muirfield today, and we will double your winnings if your selected player birdies the Par 4 18th hole"

going with these straight and combo on the 3
Bjorn 2/1 over Duval and Katayama
Langer 13/8 over McCarron and Jacobson
Harrington 11/10 over Scott and Daly

My thoughts keep running back to the year O'Meara won and beat a certain Brian Watts who nobody had heard of but was an American who was successful on the Japanese tour - well I will reinvest a bit of last weeks winnings on Dean Wilson - currently -1 through 12 - he's 200/1 at sports.com - (still paying 1st 5 places)
