Did well through the playoffs last year, so I will post some Caps games in this thread. I typically do not pay a lot of attention to hockey until January but I will pick some select games before then.

Opening night is Wednesday. Many are predicting a bit of a let down for the Caps after their Cup run. Not sure I agree, but if it does happen I expect it to happen in the playoffs. This team should excel in the regular season once again. This is more or less the same exact team as last year. You can argue that it is even better as the younger players further develop. Lots of talk about lack of a back up goalie, but Holtby can handle the load and Copley looked good in pre-season. Plus they got Samsanov in the wings who looks to be really good.

The home opener is an extremely tough ticket and the place will be rocking the red as they unveil the Cup banner. I expect this to lead to a spirited Caps effort and Caps win. Plus the Caps owned the Bruins last year having won all 5 match ups against them. The 2 home games had 7 and 8 goals, with 2 and 3 goals in the first period.

Washington -135

I do not have period lines yet, but I like the over in the first period also.

Nothing big to start just some action money (soccer profits!).

Hoping they come out strong tonight with the crowd and play hard for the win. That should set up a good bet against for tomorrow!!

Easy winners last night. Caps came out as expected and they were further fueled by the Wilson suspension as the players are not happy about it.

Marchand better hope Wilson stays suspended forever because he is going to be a marked man next time out.

No line out yet for the Caps game tonight, but I think they will be off after the emotional win last night so I will be on Pitt. Will post once I see it. Likely on first period over again also.

I will say that the NHL did not do the Caps any favors with the scheduling. I think it is ridiculous that they open the season at home and then have to go on the road the very next day and then do not play again until next Wednesday. Makes no sense.

Pens are catching the Caps on the second of back to back AND it's at Pittsburgh. Pens got screwed by the schedule maker quite a bit last year, they want the champs on national TV broadcasts as much as possible so get used to it.

Pens defense is still suspect (to say the least) and the Caps have a lot of firepower, think I'll pass this one and just watch.

Wow, first period scoring fest. I will certainly take it as Penguinfan is definitely right about the Pens defense so not sure about them winning this one.

Penguins shit the bed in the 3rd up 2 with 6 minutes to play and can't finish it off. They definitely have some defensive problems. Caps ran out of gas and lost in OT Didn't want to lay the juice and it cost me tonight. Oh well, still a good start.

Back next week as the Caps are off for a while. I know I will be on the Caps next Wed. National TV against Vegas with almost a week off. I think Vegas is in trouble.

I'm never "the fix is in" guy, but I think we see the true VGK this year. I can't explain what happened last year, but this year they will be lucky to win 25 games.

I could not agree any more Penguin. I think they are in for a long year and that already started last night. I bet against them last night and I will be against them in many spots this year. As you probably know from reading some of my stuff, I do not like seasonal bets as I hate to tie up money, but I went in with a couple friends in Vegas for a big bet on their Under.

As I mentioned above, I do not think that Vegas is that good. I think last year was a fluke and that they will have a very hard time even making the playoffs this year. Even last year I thought the the top 5 teams in the East were better than them and the Caps beat them handily in the final. Sure this is a regular season game and anything can happen so I will bet within reason, but the Caps have not played since last Thursday so they have to be chomping at the bit to get back at it. This Cup rematch is again on national tv and has been hyped for a while by NBC. I think the Caps come out of the gate strong once again and take advantage of a weakened Vegas defense. I am sure Vegas will be better than they were on Monday and I expect them to play very well, but I just do not think they have the depth to keep up.

Caps -140
Caps -1.5 +205
Caps FP Ov1.5 -120

I'm honestly never one to look at a line and go "that seems too low", but I did on this one. I was shocked to see -140 on the Caps (now -145). It does seem too low, but I'm with you on this one. I'll back the Caps tonight and feel like we should see a 6-1 type of game.

Good luck.

It went up to 155 I think and back down to 137 but Im riding with the Caps too even tho I took it at 150. I love Bason's soccer and hocky analysis, you have to teach me more for soccer I follow, but im IN.

I tend to agree here Penguin, I thought the line would be around -160, but I am not seeing it as fishy just as Vegas getting too much credit.

Thanks Dawg. The more soccer bettors we get on here the better. It is worth spending the time to learn more about it as I think it offers the best opportunities to win money over time. It does take a ton of time though which is why I do more of a single team or two focus in other sports.

Just came in to say thanks, Bason. I had it in my mind to play against the Knights in their next game having caught on to their early season struggles a few days ago, but I had completely forgotten about the game tonight until I stumbled into your thread earlier. Played Caps every which way... Full Game, 1P, Puck Line and TT Over. That sure worked out!

Thanks DZ. This was one I have been waiting for since last week. Happy it worked out and I have a couple parlays working with -1.5 with a couple soccer plays.

Kuznetsov is simply a pleasure to watch and easily becoming one of the best players in the game. You can not take a lot of penalties against the Caps and expect to win. Their power play is simply too good and it will affect how teams play against them.

Was a big play for me tonight so I am laying off tomorrow. I honestly do not know much about NJ, but I think the fact that they have only played 1 game so far is not in their favor with the Caps coming in. I will wait for Saturday against Toronto that on paper looks like a huge over play. Will not be surprised if they put a rare 7 on the total, but I am not sure they can make it high enough. Just do not see how this one stays under 10.

Also worth noting that I do not think the coaching change has had any negative affect as I talked about at the end of last season. The players really like Reirden and I think it is already showing in their play.
