Caps back home off the break, but not sure we see a change from their recent play. The line is telling in this one so I am going with:

Calgary -120

I will use the -1.5 +215 in a parlay with the Wisconsin ML in hoops.

Caps have simply sucked the last 7 games so they are going to have to prove they are back (no Ovi tonight) before I bet a dime on them. Does not matter who they play tonight as I would be against them no matter what, but they happen to get one of the best teams in hockey. Canadian weather in DC and I expect a Canadian victory.

We will see what kind of coach Rierden is after the next couple weeks. He needs to get this team back on track, if he can't, they are in some trouble and maybe he wasn't the right choice.

Of course the Caps win on a pp at the end of the game after sucking on the power play all game. Calgary was not very good in this game. I rarely see them play, but they certainly did not play like a team with their record, especially defensively.

Well I wrote a big write up on last night's game and thought I posted it, but somehow I screwed it up. Not sure what the hell I did, but oh well.

Bottom line to me is that the Caps showed why the Islanders are not serious Cup contenders. They simply do not have the fire power to win in the playoffs. They really got shut out last night on home ice as their lone goal was clearly offsides.

Caps made a couple great moves at the trade deadline and they are playing well since the break. I think you will see them more focused and start playing better and better as we get closer to the playoffs. The East is a beast this year and I can not wait for the playoffs as their will be great match ups in every round!

Will be posting some more as we get closer to the playoffs.

I think the Caps will continue to play well today and score some goals on national TV.

Caps Ov 6.5

I will also parlay this with the Chicago Ov 6.5 which has been a phenomenal money maker as it has hit in 14 straight games!!

Rangers goalie was simply on fire and kept this from going over. He was phenomenal in the second period.

As an aside, the entire officiating crew really sucked in this one. They did not call obvious penalties all game long. They even screwed up the last call in the shootout and had to go to replay to make an obvious call. Not sure if they did not know the rule or simply missed it, but they had a terrible game.

I am still playing the over in Chicago until it loses.

This is a tough one to Cap. Philly is hot but so is Washington, so it is tough to take a side in this one and I am not sure we see a high scoring game. This is the time of year that teams start playing a little tighter with an eye towards the playoffs. This was definitely evident last night as we had 6 draws. This is an angle I start to look at towards the end of every hockey season. The NHL point system awards teams for draws and as we get to the end of the season securing at least one point is a huge deal for some teams, especially on the road. So, given that I really do not like a side in this one:

Caps Draw +296

I will take a shot with a draw as the Caps will want to secure at least a point and they have the OT advantage against most teams. I expect the Flyers to be very aggressive at they have to keep winning and the Caps to play more defensively 5 on 5 and look to take advantage of odd man rushes.

I will be on the Chicago over once again tomorrow no matter what the line. Ride the wave until it crashes!!

Have not had a lot of time for hockey recently, but tonights game vs Tampa is interesting.

Tampa is -140 in DC. So is this line telling since the Caps are never dogs at home or is it just giving Tampa too much credit? The Caps just lost to them 6-3, but it was much closer than that. It was 4-3 in the third with Washington threatening to score a few times. Then two late goals. I have a feeling your going to get the Caps best effort tonight to try to prove to Tampa they are still the Champs. Caps off win last night, but they cruised against NJ so I do not think it is a factor. Also Holtby did not play so he is rested. Tampa has already wrapped up President's trophy but they are not going to want to give the Caps any momentum. I think you see a playoff type game tonight.

Caps +120

Maybe I am getting sucked in, but I will take the Caps + money at home fighting for first place every time as it is a great value no matter who they play.

No real time to do hockey writeups lately but playoff implications in the East getting interesting. For the Caps I think they want to avoid the Penguins and Columbus in the first round. Just my personal view. They may have even hurt themselves by beating Carolina twice over the last few days. They own Carolina so winning the division and getting them in the first round is the best situation. I also do not think anyone sweats the Islanders in the playoffs. Big win last night, but in general, they have trouble scoring and I do not see them going far in the playoffs. Caps play the Islanders the last game of the season so will be interesting to see where they sit. Pitt may not lose another game. They have a tough game tonight, but after that they have an easy remaining schedule so they still can win the division. I think they are a good play every game the rest of the season. Caps will want to get a point in TB tomorrow, beat Florida, but them have a tough home game against a Montreal team that may be desperate for a win. If they lose tomorrow to Tampa, they could lose the division, but if they end up playing the Islanders, I do not think that is a big deal. Should be fun to watch. Hoping for another round of Caps/Penguins in the second round and hoping Tampa loses in round 2. Love hockey playoffs!

Short price on the Caps tonight at -135. I think they are very motivated even after the Tampa win. They win and Islanders lose, they clinch the division and can prepare for the playoffs. Not sure if the Islanders lose at home, but I think the Caps win.

Tampa is off a rough physical game with the Caps. Not sure they will be motivated for this trip. May be worth a shot taking Ottawa tonight +240 or using them in a parlay.

Caps simply did not show last night. Read that wrong. Got lucky with Isanders losing.

Pitt in regulation tonight.

Series

Caps -150 - I thought this line would be much higher. This is the best possible first round match up for the Caps as they tend to dominate Carolina. They swept them this year. Sure, Carolina is a great story and they are hot (actually Caps are just as hot as they have almost identical records since the all star break and the trade deadline), but they do not have the depth that the Capitals have. Plus, they only score 2.96 goals per game. The only real advantage they have is on the power play as the Caps have been struggling a bit on the pp and on the kill. The Caps have been playing great hockey at the end of the year and I do not see a let down. May see some close games but I just do not think Carolina can score enough to hang. Maybe a homer play, but it is a strong play for me especially at this price.

More to come.

I edited it to show the price I played it at today.

Spent most of the morning going over the Series prices and I think I am only playing the Caps. I think Boston wins, but not laying -165 in what is likely a 7 game series. I want the Islanders to win, but I just do not think they have the offense to win a 7 game series against a team that can score. Their goalies will have to be unreal for them to win. Tampa will win, but no way laying that price. I am not as well versed in the West. San Jose has to hope Fluery is not 100% as their goal tending is poor. I was wrong about Vegas this year, but that series is a crap shoot. St. Louis looks like the best bet in the West as they are playing very well right now and I see that Kickserv is all over it! I just do not see anything I like as much as the Caps.

I likely will not make a lot of individual game plays in the first round. I am going rather large and risking almost all my hockey bankroll on the Caps series with the hope that it provides a big bankroll for the rest of the playoffs. Risky move, but I like them in this series. Also, if it goes sideways, I needs some funds to possible lessen the loss since Carolina will likely be a dog is every game.

Added a little more to the Caps at -145 yesterday when it dropped again. Not surprised that the Caps are getting no respect (Pens are -150 and do not have home ice) but all you have to do is watch the back to back games against Carolina at the end of the year to see why I like them. Must win games for Carolina and the Caps shut them down on both occasions. Anything can happen in hockey, but I still think this is a short price for the much better team.

A prop play for tonight.

Ovechkin Ov 4 SOG - He averages a little more than this in the regular season. I am sure Carolina will do their best to stay out of the box, but if the Caps get a couple of power plays this should be an easy winner. Even if they do not, I still like this play.

You are definitely seeing why I wanted the Caps to avoid a first round matchup with Columbus. Can not believe that series is 3-0, but this is why the hockey playoffs are so great. Tampa only lost 3 games all year to Metro teams! Not only are they winning but they are dominating. I think Columbus can also beat the Islanders. Have to say though that the Islanders are doing much better than I thought. They have taken Pitt out of their game and Pitt's defensive woes are coming to light.

Caps are right where I thought they would be. They are simply the better team. My guess is they may lose tonight, but no reason to go against my big series play at this point. However, I think the atmosphere in Carolina will be nuts tonight since it has been a very long time since they had a home playoff game. This should propel Carolina to a great first period:

Ov 1.5 -123 1P

Both games have seen this hit and I think we get a generous number. Carolina has to have a big first period in my opinion to win this game and the Caps will be ready to take advantage of their aggressiveness. Think we see 2 goals in the first period.

That call made me sick last night. The NHL should be ashamed of what happened in that game. Just another example of clueless refs making a call based on a player's injury versus what happened. You have replay, just admit you missed the play and review it. I am sure they will change the review process after the fact just like the NFL, but that call was a disgrace to the game and an insult to all fans of hockey. I have always loved the hockey playoffs and the fact that they let the players decide the game. Now the NHL has stooped to the NFL's level by letting the refs decide the outcome of games.

If something like this happens in the Caps game tonight I may have a heart attack!
