If I had to play it I would play the Over, but I am worried that the Rangers are flat and will have trouble scoring.

Caps were bad tonight. Yeah, they won, but this was the old Caps that simply go through the motions and think they can turn it on when they want to win. Power play and Holtby saved them. Reirdan had too much time on his hands and is already playing with the lines which did not work in my opinion. They are trying to get Vrana more involved but he is not ready for the 2nd line especially since Ellers line has done nothing. Orlov is a maddening player, sometimes he is great and others just awful. Was the latter tonight. He took one bad penalty and Walker another that gave them two PP goals. I know I am being a little harsh, but it was an uninspired performance given the time off at home they had. They sort of proved why I will never lay -265 in hockey. I will be very selective for the next couple of months.

Someone that knows more about hockey than me please explain this Caps line to me. They are -145 tonight at home against Florida and they were -265 on Wednesday night against the Rangers. Not sure I get this.

I agree Vig, I laid off and put the first period over in a parlay.

It was a terrible game from just about all sides. The NHL is getting what they want in high scoring games, but I really do not like what is happening in hockey. Players are hesitant to finish off checks with the fear of drawing penalties and the refs are calling everything. This game was horribly officiated. Even the linesmen over-stepped their bounds and made bad calls. Both teams defense was pathetic and the Caps penalty kill was really bad as it has been all season (they miss Wilson on the penalty kill). Just like the NFL, the NHL is taking away the physical nature of the game the best they can and the game is worse off for it. I know some of you will disagree and I have no problem with that but hitting (and fighting) is an integral part of the game that is starting to disappear. Maybe it will get more physical as the season progresses, but right now some of these games resemble glorified pre-season games. Playing overs in good situations seems the way to play hockey right now.

I will jump back in tonight as I expect another high scoring game between these two. Caps played very well on Monday so I expect this one to be a little sloppy.

1st Period Ov 1.5 -140
Ov 6.5 -125

Staying away from the side. Caps really have not played a great game since the opener. Constantly playing with the lines and the defense has been shaky. I think they will get it all together at some point, but do not think they are quite there yet.

Wilson should be back tonight which will make a difference for the Caps. Remember, he is a first line player and a huge part of the penalty kill that has been struggling without him. I know others hate him and I am not going to argue about it, but he is a very good hockey player and a key player on this team last year. I do not like how the team has been playing lately at all, so maybe this is the spark that gets them going. Could be worth a shot at plus money but Minnesota is a great home team. I may take a shot with the draw for a couple bucks of action.

Well, Wilson coming back has made one hell of a difference. Caps are on a 7 game winning streak, mostly without Oshie and Kuznetsov and Wilson has 7 goals and 6 assists in 9 games back. Holtby is getting back into form and the power play defense has greatly improved. Even last night where they did not play particularly well, they killed a 5 minute major and did enough to win. Holtby was fantastic. Of course most will talk about Wilson's hit, but the ref got that one wrong and it should not have been a 5 minute major, but I am sure the NHL will blow it out of proportion. Think the injuries have been good for the team as the younger players and back up goalie have had to step up which will pay big dividends down the road.

Now, what is one thing that can stop this streak? Yours truly, that is who!

I am going to the game on Sunday to meet up with some old friends that I used to go to games with years ago. I have not been to many regular season games the last 5 years, but when I do, they lose. I think they have lost the last 7 times I was there in the regular season, so consider yourselves warned!!

I do not think the Caps are going to bounce back well after Sunday's loss. They got right on the plane and went to Vegas and probably had some fun last night. Vegas will want this one and I think they take it.

Vegas -160 and -1.5 +170

Caps played better than I expected but still got beat and love getting the empty netter with 7 seconds left for the -1.5 win that made for a very profitable night.

My guess is that they will struggle in AZ as they will be focusing on the upcoming game with Columbus. I will not be playing the AZ game and will see how healthy they are for Columbus.

Bason, not sure if you are aware of it, but there is an ongoing trend going back to the end of last season where playing AGAINST a team in their first game AFTER PLAYING IN VEGAS has been very profitable. Playing on the Coyotes/against the Caps tonight fits that trend where the team with the Vegas "hangover" has only won once this year. Don't quote me exactly, but I believe the trend is 11-1 this season and 16-1 going back to the end of last season.

As it relates specifically to teams playing in Arizona immediately after the Vegas game, the Coyotes are 3-1 this year, beating Vancouver 4-1, Tampa 7-1 and Ottawa 7-1 in succession in late October, while losing more recently at home to Calgary 6-1. The Calgary loss 11 days ago was the last of 4 straight defeats. Arizona has gone on to win 4 straight since, while the Caps are in the midst of a two game slump and playing their second of a 3 game road trip over 5 days.

I'll be on the 'Yotes pretty strong today, ML and 3-way line. BOL :0corn

Have to jump in on the Penguins game and national TV.

The Caps are playing fantastic hockey right now. Ovechkin has just been unreal this year. Hard to believe that he continues to play at this level and he is doing it much more efficiently as is shooting percentage is an unbelievable 22.5% especially given the amount of shots he takes (the average is just over 9% and I think Stamkos is the best for active players around 17%)!! He is also passing the puck better than I have ever seen and even playing a little defense. No coincidence that their great play coincides with getting healthy. They are giving up too many goals so I do expect them to make a trade for a defensemen at the trade deadline to help the defense. They have a couple of young pieces to use as good trade bait and I think Burakovsky is likely at the top of that list. He will be attractive for a lot of teams.

The Penguins are not so great defensively but they can score goals and they are always up for this game. The Caps have had a few days off at home so they are well rested and should be ready to go. As such, I am going with the obvious plays for this one:

Ov 1.5 1st Period
Ov 6.5 for the Game

Given both teams defensive play it is hard not to see this game being an over. Sometimes the obvious play is the best one, so lets hope that is the case tonight.

Jumping in tonight as I like this line:

Caps Ov 5.5 -120

I think the Caps were embarrassed by their effort recently in St. Louis, so expecting them to play much better on home ice.

A horrible performance by the Caps last night. I do not see how they bounce back on the road in Nashville tonight. I will be on Nashville in a few different ways.

Hope you bet them for the same about Snafu and broke even. As expected the Caps were not prepared to play last night. Made some good money off of that one.
