Inside the Paint - Saturday
Chris David

Game of the Night (ABC, 8:35 p.m. ET)
Oklahoma City (35-19 SU, 31-23 ATS) at Houston (32-22 SU, 25-28-1 ATS)

The Western Conference will be featured on Saturday night as the Thunder and Rockets square off from the Toyota Center. Houston has been installed as a two-point favorite for this game and to no surprise, the oddsmakers are expecting a back-and-forth game with a total of 235 ?.

NBA expert and contributor Tony Mejia weighed in on the clash between these contenders.

He said, ?The Thunder and Rockets are running third and fifth in the West and figure to be locked in a race to ensure they avoid the Warriors in the conference semifinals. Considering they?ll meet on the final night of the regular season and have split the first two matchups, these teams are going to remain tied together.?

?Houston has won 15 of 22 meetings between these teams but have really struggled from beyond the arc over the past eight meetings, making over 35 percent of their 3-pointers only twice. Oklahoma City has shot 28-for-100 over its past three contests against the Thunder, so keep those numbers in mind before the presence of elite scorers like (James) Harden and (Paul) George has you thinking ?over.? The first meeting produced just 178 points and the most recent encounter on Christmas surpassed the posted total by a half-point thanks to the foul game being implemented by OKC down the stretch in its attempted comeback.?

As mentioned by Mejia, the first meeting on Nov. 8 between the pair was ugly as ever and can be tossed out for handicapping purposes as Oklahoma City humbled Houston 98-80 at home. This was when the Rockets began the season 4-7 and the chemistry wasn?t close to connecting.

The offensive units showed up for the holiday matchup as Houston rallied past Oklahoma City 113-109 as a one-point home underdog. The Rockets didn?t have Chris Paul active and James Harden carried the team with 41 points. The total (221 ?) barely cashed and it was fortunate to do so as neither team was clicking in either the first quarter (44 points) or the fourth (48). Paul George led the Thunder with 28 points while Russell Westbrook added 21 points, nine rebounds and nine assists in the loss.

For the third installment, Paul is back in the lineup for the Rockets but they won?t have big man Clint Capela (thumb) and Eric Gordon (knee) is ?questionable.? Newly acquired Iman Shumpert from the Kings could be available for Houston on Saturday.

Since the rugged 4-7 start, which includes a 0-5 record at home, the Rockets have posted a 28-15 mark. At home, the club has gone 19-4 straight up and 15-7-1 against the spread. One of those losses came in their last home game, a 121-116 decision to New Orleans as a 13 ?-point favorite.

After that setback, the Rockets began a four-game road trip which saw them go 3-1 (2-2 ATS). Playing the first game back from a long roadie is never easy but they?ve been off since Wednesday and hopefully that break will have them ready.

Coming out flat against OKC could cost you, especially this year?s team. The Thunder were a pedestrian road team (21-20) last season but they?ve turned that around. This year?s squad is 16-12 both SU and ATS as a visitor and they?re just one of three teams (Warriors, Clippers) in the West that can boast a winning road record. They?ve had some clunkers (Hawks, Mavericks) along the way, yet they?ve been competitive in losses which includes their last road setback to Boston (134-129) on Super Bowl Sunday.

Including that defeat, Oklahoma City enters this game with a 9-1 record in its last 10 games and the offense has been humming, averaging 122.9 points per game. That production has helped the ?over? go 7-3 during this span.

The Rockets (31-23) and Thunder (28-25-1) have both leaned to the ?over? this season and most of those results have come at home for the pair. For instance, Houston is 18-9 (67%) to the high side at the Toyota Center while OKC has watched the ?under? go 16-12 on the road. The Thunder play the fastest pace in the league, averaging 93.2 shots per game while the Rockets attempt the most 3-pointers (44.4). Based on those tendencies, these teams both eclipse 120-plus points if the shots are falling.

This will be the fourth week that ABC is providing national coverage in the Saturday night slot. So far, we?ve seen home teams go 2-1 SU and 1-2 ATS while the ?under? is 2-1. The Warriors captured the lone road win (115-111) over the Celtics a couple weeks ago. Houston kicked off the schedule on Jan. 19 with a thrilling 138-134 overtime win over the Lakers as a seven-point favorite.

While wishful thinking could have you leaning to another shootout tonight, I?m hesitant to go down that road based on Oklahoma City?s trends as an underdog. The Thunder are 7-6 SU and 8-5 ATS when catching points this season, which are solid numbers but the ?under? has gone 11-2 in those games.

Both clubs will play in this spot again before the season ends, coincidentally they?ll both face the Warriors.

Back-to-Back Spots

There are eight other games on tap for Saturday and while none of them measure up to the headliner, we do have six clubs playing on no rest and some have been good while others have struggled.

New Orleans at Memphis:
The Pelicans have been terrible in these spots, going 1-8 SU and 3-6 ATS. They have covered their last two in this role but they likely won?t have Anthony Davis available after last night?s win at home versus Minnesota. The ?under? has cashed in three of the last four games for the Pelicans on no rest.

New York vs. Toronto:
Exactly like New Orleans, the Knicks are 1-8 SU and 3-6 ATS on no rest. What?s surprising is that five of the games took place at Madison Square Garden, where they went 0-5 SU and 1-4 ATS. The last three losses came by 18, 12 and 16 points.

Washington at Chicago:
Both clubs dealing with fatigue in this matchup and Washington (7-2 SU, 7-2 ATS) has looked better in this role than Chicago (2-6 SU, 4-4 ATS). The Wizards have won and covered four straight games on no rest and the United Center hasn?t treated the Bulls well when facing these situations. Chicago is 0-3 at home (1-2 ATS) and two of those losses were by 56 and 39 points to the Celtics and Raptors respectively. Make a note that Chicago is off a win at Brooklyn and is has only won back-to-backs games once this season.

Cleveland at Indiana:
As expected, the Cavaliers have struggled to a 2-8 record on no rest this season. However, Cleveland has managed to go 6-4 ATS. Make a note that it hasn?t covered in three straight games on no rest and the ?over? has gone 3-0 due to some poor defensive numbers (132.3 PPG).

Milwaukee vs. Orlando:
The Bucks have gone 5-2 SU and 4-3 ATS on no rest and that includes a 2-1 record on the road. One of those wins came on Oct. 27 versus Orlando, a 113-91 win as a nine-point home favorite.

Clippers overcome 28-point deficit to beat Celtics, 123-112
February 9, 2019
By The Associated Press

HOUSTON (AP) Paul George scored 45 points, Russell Westbrook matched the NBA record with his ninth straight triple-double and the Oklahoma City Thunder overcame a 26-point deficit to beat the Houston Rockets 117-112 on Saturday night.

Westbrook had 21 points, 11 assists and 12 rebounds to match the record streak set by Wilt Chamberlain in 1968. Westbrook has 22 triple-doubles this season and 126 overall. He also had 10 turnovers and was 8 of 21 from the field.

James Harden led the Rockets with 42 points, reaching 30 points for the 29th straight game - two shy of Chamberlain for the second-longest streak in NBA history, but far behind Chamberlain's record run of 65 games. Harden was 11 for 28 from the field, going 6 of 16 from 3-point range, and made 14 of 15 free throws.

The 26-point deficit was Oklahoma City's largest of the season.

Westbrook gave the Thunder a one-point lead with a driving layup with 26.9 seconds remaining. On the following possession, Harden missed a 3-pointer, and George got the rebound and was fouled with 3.4 seconds left. He made both free throws put Oklahoma City up three. Houston turned it over on the following inbound play.

George made 12 of 22 shots, hit 6 of 14 3-pointers and made 15 of 18 free throws to finish four points shy of his career-high 49 points set in 2013 with Indiana.

CLIPPERS 123, CELTICS 112

BOSTON (AP) - Montrezl Harrell forced two turnovers in the final two minutes and Patrick Beverley hit a pair of 3-pointers in front of the Boston bench night and retooled Los Angeles overcome a 28-point deficit.

One game after the Lakers rallied from 18 points down to win in Boston on Rajon Rondo's buzzer-beater - and six days after the Patriots beat the Rams in the Super Bowl - the Clippers turned the ''Beat L.A.! chants'' to boos. The Celtics collapse corresponded to the loss of Kyrie Irving, who left with a sprained knee in the second quarter, when the game seemed comfortably in hand.

Harrell scored 21 points, Danilo Gallinari had 19 points and 10 rebounds and trade deadline acquisition Landry Shamet scored 17 points.

Gordon Hayward scored 19 points and Jayson Tatum and Terry Rozier had 16 apiece for Boston. The Celtics followed their highest-scoring half of the season with their lowest-scoring quarter and lost at home to a team from Los Angeles for the second straight time.

Boston scored 15 straight points and finished the first quarter with a 23-point lead, then extended it to 68-40 in the second. The Celtics led 74-53 at halftime, but the Clippers outscored them 28-12 in the third.

Los Angeles finally tied it 100-all, bringing boos from the crowd that expected an easy victory against a team that traded away leading scorer Tobias Harris at the deadline and added five new players. Gallinari followed with a jumper to give the Clippers their first lead.

RAPTORS 104, KINICKS 99

NEW YORK (AP) - Marc Gasol had seven points and six rebounds in his Toronto debut and the Raptors sent New York to its 16th straight loss.

Acquired from Memphis before Thursday's trade deadline, Gasol played 19 minutes. The three-time All-Star entered late in the first quarter and made a hook shot on his first try.

Kyle Lowry scored 22 points, and Serge Ibaka added 15 points and 13 rebounds for the Raptors. Rookie Kevin Knox had 20 points for New York. The Knicks have lost 29 of their last 31 games.

MAGIC 103, BUCKS 83

MILWAUKEE (AP) - Jonathan Isaac scored 17 points, Nikola Vucevic and Terrence Ross each added 15 and Orlando snapped Milwaukee's six-game winning streak.

The NBA-leading Bucks played without All-Star forward Giannis Antetokounmpo. He sat out with right knee soreness. They lost for just the second time in 14 games.

Eric Bledsoe had 19 points for Milwaukee.

HORNETS 129, HAWKS 120

ATLANTA (AP) - Kemba Walker hit nine 3-pointers and scored 37 points, Marvin Williams added 27 points and Charlotte beat Atlanta to snap a two-game skid.

Jeremy Lamb had 24 points to help the Hornets win for the eighth time in their last 13 games.

John Collins had 21 points and Trae Young added 20 for the Hawks.

JAZZ 125, SPURS 105

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Donovan Mitchell scored 23 points, Rudy Gobert had 21 points and 13 rebounds and Utah beat San Antonio.

Royce O'Neale tied his season high with 17 points and made all four of his 3-point attempts, and Ricky Rubio had 16 points, six rebounds and six assists to help the Jazz win for the third time in four games.

DeMar DeRozan scored 23 points for the Spurs. They have lost four in a row on their eight-game trip while their home arena hosts a 17-day stock show and rodeo.

PACERS 105, CAVALIERS 90

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Bojan Bogdanovic scored 23 points and Indiana beat Cleveland for its fifth straight victory.

Darren Collison added 18 points, Myles Turner had 14 points and eight rebounds and Domantas Sabonis added 13 points and 10 rebounds. Jordan Clarkson led the Cavaliers with 18 points.

WIZARDS 134, BULLS 125

CHICAGO (AP) - Bradley Beal scored 31 points to help Washington beat Chicago in the first meeting between the teams since they swapped three forwards in a multiplayer trade.

The Wizards got Jabari Parker, Bobby Portis and a protected 2023 second-round pick from the Bulls on Wednesday for Otto Porter Jr. Parker scored 20 points and Portis had 10 points and 12 rebounds against their former team, helping Washington to a 64-38 advantage in bench points.

Zach LaVine scored 26 points for Chicago.

GRIZZLIES 99, PELICANS 90

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - Joakim Noah had season highs of 19 points and 14 rebounds to lead new-look Memphis past New Orleans.

Justin Holiday had 15 points and Jaren Jackson Jr. finished with 14 points, 10 of them in the fourth. C.J. Miles, playing his first game for Memphis added 13 points to help the Grizzlies win for the third time in four games.

Julius Randle led the Pelicans with 21 points, and Jrue Holiday added 15. Anthony Davis had 14 points and 16 rebounds in his second game returning to the lineup after seeking a trade.

Game of the Night: Heat at Warriors (-14, 221 ?) ? 8:35 PM EST

In the record-setting season of 2015-16, the Warriors needed 44 games to reach 40 victories. The next season, it took Golden State 47 games to reach the 40-win mark. Last season, the Warriors picked up their second consecutive championship, but it took them 50 contests to make it to 40 wins.

This season, Steve Kerr?s squad is one victory away from 40, but the Warriors (39-15 SU, 24-29-1 ATS) are off to their worst start since 2013-14. Granted, Golden State is currently the top seed in the Western Conference playoffs, but the standard has been set so high that 39-15 is underachieving for this club. The 39th victory of the season for the Warriors came on Friday against an undermanned Suns? team as 16 ?-point road favorites, 117-107. Stephen Curry struggling from the floor by shooting 6-of-17 and finished with 20 points, but Klay Thompson paced the Warriors with 25 points, while hitting 4-of-5 three-point attempts.

The Heat (25-28 SU, 27-26 ATS) continue their six-game road trip after splitting the first two contests at Portland and Sacramento. Miami ended a three-game slide in Thursday?s 118-108 triumph at Portland to pull off the season sweep of the Blazers, while cashing as seven-point underdogs. The Heat was on their way to a 2-0 start on the trip against the Kings by jumping out to an 11-point advantage after one quarter and held an 11-point cushion with 6:30 remaining.

Disaster struck in the final 6:30 minutes on Friday night as Sacramento outscored Miami, 19-2 down the stretch to pick up a 102-96 victory to cash as three-point home favorites. Josh Richardson led the Heat with 21 points, while Hassan Whiteside poured in a double-double with 17 points and 19 rebounds, but Miami lost in its second straight appearance at Golden 1 Center.

Miami remains in northern California on Sunday night to begin a difficult back-to-back set that continues in Denver on Monday. The Heat have been listed as a double-digit underdog only once this season as Miami cashed as 12-point ?dogs in a 125-115 setback at Toronto on November 25. Miami has cashed in eight of its past 12 opportunities as a road underdog, but the Heat own a 1-4 record in their last five in this situation.

The Warriors have compiled a solid 14-6 ATS record when laying at least 10 points, while winning all 20 games straight-up. The last time Golden State lost outright as a double-digit favorite came against Oklahoma City last February, 125-105 at Oracle Arena. The Warriors swept the Heat last season as both victories came in blowout fashion. Golden State crushed Miami at Oracle Arena, 97-80 as 14 ?-point favorites, followed by a 123-95 rout at American Airlines Arena as 10 ?-point chalk.

Afternoon Action

Whenever the Lakers and 76ers hook up, we?re always waiting for Magic Johnson, Julius Erving, and Moses Malone to step on the floor. However, that was over 35 years and two arenas ago as the two old rivals hook up Wells Fargo Center today.

Los Angeles (28-27 SU, 24-29-2 ATS) bounced back from an ugly 136-94 setback at Indiana to pull off one of its biggest victories of the season on Thursday at Boston. The Lakers erased an 18-point deficit, capped off by Rajon Rondo burning his old team with a jumper in the final seconds to send L.A. to a 129-128 stunner at TD Garden as nine-point underdogs. LeBron James posted a triple-double with 28 points, 12 rebounds, and 12 assists, while the Lakers drilled 22 three-pointers in the victory.

The Lakers go from one old rival to another by squaring off with the 76ers (35-20, 26-29 ATS), who have put their chips in the middle of the table for a shot at the Eastern Conference title. Philadelphia held off Denver on Friday night, 117-110 to snap a short two-game losing streak as newcomer Tobias Harris scored 14 points. The Sixers overcame a 4-of-17 shooting performance from Joel Embiid as J.J. Redick lit up the Nuggets for 34 points on 11-of-15 from the field.

These teams are hooking up for the second time in less than two weeks as the 76ers crushed the Lakers at Staples Center, 121-105 on January 30. Philadelphia easily cashed as 7 ?-point favorites by grabbing a 39-20 advantage after one quarter, but the Sixers didn?t have to deal with James, who was out with a groin injury. Embiid led the 76ers with 28 points, while L.A.?s Brandon Ingram put together one of his best games of his career by scoring 36 points on 16-of-20 shooting.

The Lakers have performed well in the road underdog role of late by covering four straight when receiving points away from Staples Center. The 76ers are riding a five-game UNDER streak, while posting a 10-1 home record this season when hosting Western Conference opponents.

Meanwhile in Big D?

The Blazers (33-21 SU, 30-24 ATS) begin a road-heavy stretch as nine of their next 10 games come away from the Moda Center. Portland finished off a four-game homestand at 3-1 after knocking off San Antonio on Thursday, 127-118 as six-point favorites. Damian Lillard and C.J. McCollum combined to score 54 points, but Lillard misfired on all seven three-point attempts. The Blazers picked up their sixth consecutive OVER, while eclipsing the 120-point mark in each of their last four victories.

Portland travels to Dallas to face the re-tooled Mavericks (25-29 SU, 33-20-1 ATS), who have dropped consecutive home games only once this season. Dallas hopes to avoid another home skid after falling to Milwaukee on Friday, 122-107 as six-point underdogs to halt a five-game ATS hot streak. Tim Hardaway, Jr. scored 12 points for the second consecutive games since joining the Mavs from the Knicks, while Dallas knocked down 22 three-pointers in the loss.

Since starting the season 16-4 at American Airlines Center, the Mavericks have slid to a 3-4 record the last seven home contests. The home team has captured each of the first two matchups this season with the Mavericks cruising past the Blazers in Dallas, 111-102 on December 4. The Blazers grabbed revenge in overtime on December 23 as 7 ?-point favorites, 121-118 as these teams have split the last eight meetings dating back to December 2016.

Cousins rebounded a missed 3-pointer by Durant and drew a foul, setting the stage for his winning free throws that gave the Warriors their 11th double-digit comeback of the season, and second straight after rallying from 17 points down in the first quarter Friday in Phoenix.

Klay Thompson scored 29 points and Stephen Curry added 25 for Golden State. Josh Richardson helped shoot Miami to the big early lead and finished with a career-high 37 points with help from eight 3-pointers.

KINGS 117, SUNS 104

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) - Marvin Bagley III had a career-high 32 points and six rebounds and Sacramento handed Phoenix its 14th straight loss.

Monday?s List of 13: Wrapping up a sports weekend??

13) Interesting stat; 32.5% of NFL players who played in Week 17 games weren?t drafted by an NFL team, which is part of what makes the new AAF so interesting. The best guys in the AAF will probably get invites to NFL training camps next summer.

12) 338 NFL prospects are going to Indianapolis for the NFL Combine at the end of this month. Thats a lot of wind sprints, measurements and interviews.

11) Don?t Knicks? fans deserve a rebate for their season tickets? New York lost its last 16 games and doesn?t even seem to be trying to win. They?re 10-45 this season.

I see these commercials for the Big East tournament that tout Madison Square Garden as ?the mecca of basketball? and its all such BS.

Last five years, Knicks are 119-264; they haven?t been in the playoffs since 2013, haven?t been in the NBA Finals since 1999, haven?t won an NBA title since 1973.

They can?t do better for a head coach than David Fizdale? Really? Why?

10) Providence coach Ed Cooley must agree that MSG is the mecca of basketball; he is 14-5 in games at Madison Square Garden; 5-1 against St John?s, 9-4 against everyone else in the Big East tournament. His Friars beat St John?s again Saturday.

9) When the 76ers acquired Tobias Harris from the Clippers at the trade deadline, they dropped from 16-1 to 10-1 to win the NBA title.

8) When an NFL team hires a head coach, the first big thing the coach has to do is to put together a coaching staff; new Jets? coach Adam Gase assembled an interesting crew.

Joe Vitt and Gregg Williams were members of the Saints? coaching staff implicated in the 2012 BountyGate scandal; in the bounty hearings, Vitt accused Williams of lying in his testimony, so their working together again shouldn?t be awkward at all.

Vitt is also Adam Gase?s father-in-law.

Gregg Williams? son Blake was also hired by the Jets; he has never been on an NFL staff that his father wasn?t also on. Rams fired Blake Williams after one year because pretty much no one could stand him.

Former Lions? OC Jim Bob Cooter is the Jets? new RB coach; he was Peyton Manning?s backup at Tennessee.

7) Turner Sports has a deal with Caesars Palace in Las Vegas to have a Bleacher Report-branded studio inside its sports book that will be its hub for gambling content.

Caesars will also be a presenting sponsor of some Turner-produced events

6) Ohio State 55, Indiana 52? Hoosiers lost nine of their last ten games, but there will be people on TV stumping for their being in the NCAA?s. If a team is 4-9 in a conference, any conference, then they don?t belong in the field of 68. I?d rather see a second team from the SoCon or WCC.

5) Houston 65, Cincinnati 58? Bearcats led 58-57 with 6:11 left, then never scored another point, snapping their 8-game win streak.

4) Random opinion; of the eight AAF teams, Arizona?s green/gold uniforms are by far the best; excellent helmets. Not fond of having the uniform number on one side of the helmet, like all the teams do, would rather have the team?s logo on both sides of the helmet.

3) I?m scrambling for information on the AAF; apparently the players signed 3-year deals, for $70K this year, $80K next year and $100K in 2021, with the stipulation that they can?t jump to the XFL next year, when that spring league starts.

Matt Linehan plays QB for the Salt Lake Stallions; he played college ball at Idaho, and is the son of Scott Linehan, who was recently fired as offensive coordinator for the Dallas Cowboys.

2) Missouri State 66, Illinois State 65? Homestanding Bears had ball out of bounds under the basket with 0:07.8 left; the ball wound up in a wild scramble at mid-court, with all ten players involved, before a kid on Missouri State grabbed the ball and drained a half-court shot at the buzzer to win the game. Very bitter loss for the Redbirds.

1) Happy birthday to the great actor Joe Pesci, who celebrated his 76th birthday over the weekend. Out of all his movies, My Cousin Vinny is my favorite.

Monday's Tip Sheet

Game of the Night: Blazers at Thunder (-6 ?, 231) ? 8:05 PM EST

Portland?s first stop on its back-to-back set in Dallas on Sunday was a success ? through three quarters. The Blazers (33-22 SU, 30-25 ATS) led the Mavericks, 92-78, but Portland?s offense dried up in Big D by scoring nine points in the final 12 minutes of a 102-101 defeat. Damian Lillard led the Blazers with 30 points, but Portland fell to 1-5 the last six opportunities on the front-end of a back-to-back set.

Now the road gets tougher on Monday as the Blazers travel to Oklahoma City looking for its first win over the Thunder (36-19 SU, 32-23 ATS) this season. Oklahoma City edged Portland, 111-109 at Moda Center on January 4 as a short underdog, paced by Paul George?s 37 points. The Thunder pulled away from the Blazers on January 22 at Chesapeake Energy Arena, 123-114 to cash as four-point favorites. George torched the Blazers again with 36 points, while Lillard and C.J. McCollum combined for 65 points in the loss for Portland.

OKC has posted a solid 10-1 record the last 11 games, while erasing an insurmountable 26-point deficit in a 117-112 triumph at Houston on Saturday. George continued his incredible season by scoring 45 points, while Russell Westbrook posted his ninth consecutive triple-double with 21 points, 12 rebounds, and 11 assists. The Thunder have covered in nine of their last 10 wins, while capturing five straight games at Chesapeake Energy Arena since getting upset by the Lakers on January 17.

Portland has put together a 4-4 SU/ATS record with no rest this season, while playing on the second of a back-to-back in its last trip to OKC last month. From a totals perspective, the Blazers had their six-game OVER streak end in Sunday?s loss at Dallas, while the Thunder were on a 12-2 OVER run prior to finishing UNDER the total in the last two contests.

Texas Triple Play

In each of the last two seasons, the Rockets swept the Mavericks by capturing four matchups in 2017 and 2018. However, Dallas (26-29 SU, 34-20-1 ATS) has rebounded this season by knocking off Houston (32-23 SU, 25-29-1 ATS) twice, including a 107-104 comeback victory at American Airlines Center in early December. Incredibly, the Mavericks are only 1-4 against the other three teams in the Southwest division, but Dallas has tripped up the first-place club in the division twice.

The Mavericks trailed the Blazers by 15 points with 10:43 remaining on Sunday, but Dallas? defense clamped down by allowing only five points the rest of the way. Dallas improved to 20-9 at American Airlines Center, while picking up its 10th home underdog cover in the last 11 opportunities. Since December 22, the Mavericks have covered in eight of 11 chances as a road underdog, but Rick Carlisle?s team has won outright only twice in this span.

The Rockets threw away a 22-point halftime lead in Saturday?s 117-112 setback to the Thunder to end a three-game winning streak. James Harden eclipsed the 40-point mark for the third time in the last four games by torching the Thunder for 42 points, but the Rockets scored 42 points in the second half after putting up 42 points in the second quarter. Since going on an 11-1 run at home from December 1 through January 14, the Rockets have split their last six games at Toyota Center, while going 0-5 ATS in their last five chances as a home favorite.

Off Target

The Timberwolves (25-30 SU, 27-28 ATS) have slipped up recently by dropping six of their last seven games, including losing all three contests on their recent road swing. Minnesota halted a five-game ATS skid by picking up a narrow cover in Friday?s 122-117 setback at New Orleans as six-point underdogs. The Wolves built a 13-point lead after one quarter, but allowed 40 second quarter points to the Pelicans to fall to 8-20 away from Target Center this season.

Minnesota is back at home tonight as the Wolves welcome in the Clippers (31-26 SU, 31-26 ATS). Los Angeles is coming off one of the best comebacks of the season on Saturday, as the Clips erased a 28-point deficit to stun the Celtics, 123-112 as 11 ?-point underdogs. Eight Clippers scored in double-figures, while L.A. converted 31-of-40 free throws to improve to 3-2 on its six-game Grammys road trip.

The Wolves swept the season series from the Clippers in 2017-18, but Los Angeles grabbed the first matchup this season at Staples Center, 120-109 as 5 ?-point favorites in November. However, the Clippers have lost in each of their past three meetings at Target Center, while L.A. seeks consecutive road wins for the third time this season.

Back on Pace

After leading scorer Victor Oladipo was lost for the season, Indiana (37-19 SU, 29-27 ATS) spun out of control and lost four consecutive games. However, the Pacers have gotten back on track of late by winning five straight contests, including each of their first three games on their long homestand. All three victories have come by double-digits against the Lakers, Clippers, and Cavaliers, while limiting each team to less than 94 points.

The Pacers host the Hornets (27-28 SU, 28-27 ATS) this evening, as Charlotte tries to seek some sort of consistency throughout this inconsistent season. Charlotte leads the Southeast division despite owning a losing record, but the Hornets are fresh off a 129-120 triumph at Atlanta on Saturday for only their eighth road win of the season.

The Hornets last won consecutive road games back in October, while getting drubbed at Indiana in its last trip to the Hoosier State in January, 120-95. Indiana has won nine of its past 10 games when listed as a home favorite, while covering seven times in this span.

Cutting Down the Nets

The most surprising team in the Eastern Conference this season resides in Brooklyn as the Nets (29-28 SU, 31-26 ATS) sit in the mix of the playoff race following three straight seasons without a taste of the postseason. However, Brooklyn has lost four of its past five games, including a shocking 19-point home loss to Chicago on Friday as eight-point favorites.

The Nets head north of the border to face the Atlantic-leading Raptors (41-16 SU, 26-31 ATS), who return home after sweeping a three-game road trip. Following an underdog victory at Philadelphia, the Raptors rallied past the Hawks, followed by a close-shave win at New York as 13 ?-point favorites, 104-99 on Saturday. Toronto won in spite of shooting 38% from the floor, while cashing the UNDER for the fifth consecutive game.

Brooklyn has slumped to a 2-5 record the last seven games away from Barclays Center, but the Nets have covered four times in this span. The home team has captured each of the first two meetings this season, as the Raptors steamrolled the Nets at Scotiabank Arena, 122-105 last month as 10-point favorites. The Nets haven?t fared well as double-digit underdogs this season by posting an 0-3 SU/ATS mark, while the Raptors have compiled a 5-0 SU and 4-1 ATS record in their last five opportunities as a home favorite of nine points or more.
