? Troy State (+11) 74, Coastal Carolina 67

6) Belmont star Dylan Windler fell thru the cracks of the recruiting system and wound up at Belmont mainly because he only played AAU ball for a little while.

Windler is a 1-handicapper on the golf course, so he was teeing it up in the summer instead of running around the AAU circuit, and he went largely unnoticed, because that is how recruiting works, for better or worse.

5) Lakers? Brandon Ingram has a blood clot in his shoulder, is expected to miss the rest of this season. Lonzo Ball is also supposed to miss the rest of the season.

4) Not sure why all the Antonio Brown news breaks after midnight, but looks like the unhappy WR is being dealt to the Raiders, for 3rd-round and 5th round draft picks.

3) Oklahoma City Thunder?s last two opponents:
? Clippers 31-46 on foul line (OKC 17-26)
? Trailblazers 38-47 on foul line (OKC 25-32)

2) The last time a pitcher made his major league debut by starting on Opening Day was in 1943; San Diego?s Chris Paddack has a chance to do that later this month.

1) Steve Wojciechowski?s five years as head coach at Marquette:
? 96-67 overall, 43-47 in Big East games.
? This will his 2nd trip to NCAA?s (lost by 20 in first round in ?17)
? Big East tournament record: 3-4
? Record in March: 10-11
? His team this year starts three juniors; time to put up or shut up.

Game of the Night: Bucks at Spurs ? 9:05 PM EST

Milwaukee (50-16 SU, 39-24-3 ATS) became the fastest team to 50 victories this season after rallying past Charlotte on Saturday, 131-114. The Bucks cashed as 12-point home favorites in spite of falling behind by eight points after the first quarter. Milwaukee lit up Charlotte for 76 points after halftime, led by Giannis Antetkounmpo?s 26 points, as the Bucks drilled 17 three-pointers in its 27th home triumph of the season.

The Spurs (37-29 SU, 35-30-1 ATS) are riding a four-game winning streak and currently sit in the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference. San Antonio held off Atlanta on Wednesday, 111-104 to not only cash as 5 ?-point road favorites, but also register its fifth consecutive UNDER. After getting torched by New York on February 24 in which the Spurs allowed 130 points, Gregg Popovich?s team has yielded 104 points or less in five straight contests, while entering tonight?s matchup on a seven-game hot streak at the AT&T Center.

The last time these teams hooked up at Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee in late November, the Bucks escaped with a 135-129 triumph. San Antonio managed to cash as 9 ?-point underdogs as the two teams obliterated the total of 226 ? by scoring over 60 points in each of the four quarters. The Spurs owned a seven-point advantage after three periods before the Bucks outscored San Antonio, 40-27 in the final 12 minutes. Antetoukounmpo paced the Bucks with 34 points and 18 rebounds to lead Milwaukee to its fourth straight victory over San Antonio since dropping nine in a row to the Spurs from 2012 through 2016.

Flying Away

The Rockets (40-25 SU, 30-33-2 ATS) have rebounded nicely from a slow start to grab control of the Southwest division. Houston seeks its eighth consecutive victory since blowing a 19-point lead to the Lakers in the first game following the All-Star break. The Rockets are coming off three straight impressive victories over three of the top four teams in the Eastern Conference, capped off by Friday?s 107-91 home blowout of the 76ers as 7 ?-point favorites.

Houston seeks the season split with Dallas (27-38 SU, 36-28-1 ATS) after capturing the last matchup at Toyota Center on February 11 in a 16-point rout. The Mavericks in a free-fall since stunning the Blazers with a late comeback on February 10 as Dallas has won only one of its past 10 contests. The lone victory came over Indiana on February 27 at home, while the Mavericks return to American Airlines Center off three consecutive road losses, but managed a backdoor cover in Friday?s defeat at Orlando.

Dallas rode a 7-0-1 ATS hot streak from January 21 through February 6, but Rick Carlisle?s squad has cashed in only three of the past 12 contests. Meanwhile, Houston has won seven of its last nine road affairs, but the Rockets have limped to a 1-5-1 ATS record in the past seven opportunities in the role of an away favorite.

Laying the Lumber

After getting embarrassed by the Celtics on Tuesday night in a 33-point rout at home, the Warriors (45-20 SU, 26-38-1 ATS) rebounded nicely on Friday by cruising past the Nuggets, 122-105 as 6 ?-point favorites. Not only did Golden State gain a game on Denver for the top spot in the Western Conference, but the Warriors? offense came back to life by hitting 18 three-pointers, including nine treys from Klay Thompson in a 39-point effort. In the win, Golden State picked up only its second home cover since mid-January, while improving to 2-10 ATS in the past 12 contests.

The Warriors are heavy favorites tonight with the last-place Suns (15-52 SU, 30-37 ATS) invading Oracle Arena. Phoenix heads to the Bay Area with no rest after picking up a cover as 12-point underdogs in a 127-120 setback at Portland on Saturday night. In spite of Phoenix sitting at the bottom of the West, the Suns have played well of late by winning four of their past six games, while covering five times in this span.

Golden State has owned Phoenix over the years by winning 18 consecutive matchups, including all three battles this season. The Warriors cruised to victories in the first two matchups, but the Suns grabbed a cover as 16 ?-point home underdogs in a 117-107 defeat on February 8. Phoenix has compiled a 3-1 ATS record in its last four opportunities as a double-digit underdog, while Golden State has failed to cover in five of its past six chances when laying at least 10 points.

Basement Brawl

Both the Knicks and Timberwolves are sitting at the bottom of their respective divisions as they do battle at Target Center. Minnesota (31-35 SU, 33-33 ATS) rallied from a 14-point deficit on Saturday to edge Washington in an overtime thriller, 135-130, but the Wolves couldn?t cash as seven-point favorites. The Wolves actually took an eight-point lead late in overtime before Trevor Ariza?s three-pointer in the final seconds clinched a cover for Washington.

The Knicks (13-53 SU, 27-38-1 ATS) have lost five in a row since a modest two-game winning streak. New York also plays with no rest after suffering its 26th defeat at Madison Square Garden this season in a 102-94 setback to Sacramento. The Knicks were limited to less than 100 points for the second straight game, while hitting the UNDER in three consecutive contests.

Minnesota knocked off New York last month at MSG, 115-104 to cash as four-point road favorites. Derrick Rose scored 20 points off the bench for the Wolves, while Minnesota played without big man Karl-Anthony Towns. The former top pick is questionable for tonight?s contest after Towns suffered a knee injury late in regulation of last night?s victory.

Guys,

I've got an early doctor appointment 60 miles away for Monday morning. I'll be leaving before any of the stuff is up. It will be a late start for Monday, March 11. I could be as late as midday getting started. There are no early starts scheduled for Monday, though. I'll get you caught up in all sports well before any play begins. Thanks for your understanding and good luck Monday night!

Tweet of the Day
?The Rays have the right under the collective bargaining agreement to renew me at or near the league-minimum salary. They also have the ability to more adequately compensate me, as other organizations have done with players who have similar achievements to mine. The Rays chose the former. I will have no further comment and look forward to competing with my teammates and field staff in our quest to win the World Series in 2019.??

Saturday?s quiz
Everyone knows that Alaska is the 49th state, Hawaii the 50th; Arizona is the #48 state.

*********************************************************************

Monday?s List of 13: Wrapping up a sports weekend??

13) Houston 85, Cincinnati 69? Cougars were very impressive in second half; they?re 29-2 now and will be a popular sleeper to make the Final Four. Not even sure they would qualify as a sleeper? Joe Lunardi has them listed as a #3-seed in his last listing.

12) Bradley 57, Northern Iowa 54? Braves were down 18 early in second half, rallied to win first MVC title since 1988? they?re in NCAA?s for first time since 2006.

11) MAAC semis: It?ll be Monmouth vs Iona in the finals tonight.

Iona won this tournament the last three years; Monmouth started this season 0-12, won their last pre-conference game, then went 10-8 in the MAAC, finishing in 6th place.

10) SoCon semis: It?ll be Wofford vs NC-Greensboro in the finals tonight. Wofford is now 20-0 in conference games this year. I?m thinking they?re in the NCAA?s no matter what, but for the sake of their nervous systems over the next week, winning tonight would be good.

9) Gardner-Webb 76, Radford 65? Bulldogs are in NCAA?s for first time ever; they were a 7-point underdog in this game. Gardner-Webb is located in Boiling Springs, NC.

Gardner-Webb won at both Wake Forest, Georgia Tech this year; they lost by 12 at VCU, by 28 at Virginia Tech.

8) Wisconsin 73, Ohio State 67 OT? Badgers led this game by 23, blew the lead, but survived and get the #4 seed in Big 14 tournament.

7) Suns 115, Warriors 111? Golden State lost and Kevin Durant hurt his ankle. Bad night.

6) Sunday, the Tampa Bay Rays renewed the contract of ace and Cy Young winner Blake Snell; they will pay him $573,700 this coming season, not much above his $558,200 salary from last year. The minimum salary increased $10,000 to $555,000 this year, so Snell?s $15,500 raise is really only $5,500.

5) Los Angeles Lakers have 156-320 record over the past six years, which is the worst record in the NBA during that time.

4) Former Wisconsin QB Alex Hornibrook transferred to Florida State; he was 26-6 in three seasons as the starter for the Badgers, leading them to the Orange Bowl following the 2017 season. Florida State finished 10th in the ACC last year in both passing efficiency at 125.77 and completion percentage at 57.1;

3) San Diego Padres attempted 36 stolen bases in their first 16 spring training games, so looks like the Friars will be running a lot more than they have recently. Orioles are second this spring, with 26 attempted steals.

2) OF Adam Jones signed a one-year, $3M deal with the Arizona Diamondbacks.

1) Shaka Smart?s four years at Texas:
? 66-65 record, 31-41 in Big X games
? 2-3 in Big X tournament, 0-2 in NCAA?s.

Shaka Smart?s six years at VCU:
? 163-56 record, 74-30 in conference games
? 15-4 in conference tournament, 7-5 in NCAA?s.

Game of the Night: Celtics at Clippers ? 10:35 PM EST

After Boston lost at home to Houston last Sunday, the conversation of this team?s demise began. But then, the Celtics (41-26 SU, 34-32-1 ATS) traveled west and everything changed. It all started with Tuesday?s 128-95 blowout of Golden State, then the Celtics held off the Kings the next night, 111-109 without point guard Kyrie Irving in the lineup.

Irving returned on Saturday night as the Celtics avenged a buzzer-beating loss to the Lakers from last month as Boston pounded Los Angeles at Staples Center, 120-107. The Celtics easily cashed as seven-point favorites against a beat-up and beaten down Lakers? squad, as Irving torched L.A. for 30 points to knock off old friend LeBron James. Boston drilled 14 three-pointers, including four from Marcus Smart to pick up their first road favorite cover since February 1 at New York.

The Celtics remain in Tinseltown on Monday to face the Clippers (38-29 SU, 39-28 ATS), who have won four straight games. Los Angeles pulled away from Oklahoma City on Friday, 118-110 to cash as short two-point home favorites. The Clippers took advantage of Russell Westbrook and Paul George each fouling out late for OKC, as L.A. converted 31 free throws, including 10 from Lou Williams, who scored 40 points.

The last time the Celtics and Clippers hooked up at TD Garden on February 9, Boston built a seemingly insurmountable 68-40 second quarter advantage. The cardiac Clippers roared back to outscore the Celtics, 70-38 in the second half to shock Boston, 123-112. L.A. cashed as 11 ?-point road underdogs, while the OVER of 228 ? easily hit in spite of Boston?s scoring woes after halftime. The Clippers captured four straight home meetings with the Celtics before Boston won at Staples last January, 113-102.

Pull out the Brooms?

Last season, the Jazz (37-28 SU, 33-30-2 ATS) knocked out the Thunder (40-26 SU, 34-32 ATS) in six games of the opening round of the playoffs. This season, Oklahoma City has picked up revenge against its division rivals by taking the first three meetings with Utah as the teams meet for the final time in the regular season.

The Thunder took care of the Jazz in the first matchup at home in December by nine points, but the last two hookups have been decided by one point each. On February 22 at Chesapeake Energy Arena, Oklahoma City outlasted Utah in double-overtime, 148-147, capped off by a 45-point effort from Paul George and a game-winning basket by the All-Star in the final seconds. The only bright side for the Jazz (more specifically, their backers) is they covered as four-point underdogs to cash for the first time in the last five meetings.

OKC wraps up a four-game road trip in Salt Lake City after dropping two of the first three contests. The Thunder was blown out at Minnesota to start the swing last Tuesday, while rallying past the Blazers in overtime on Thursday. Billy Donovan?s club fell apart late against the Clippers on Friday to drop to 1-9 ATS the last 10 games, including a 1-5 ATS mark on the highway.

The Jazz ran off four straight wins after the double-overtime setback at OKC, including victories over the Clippers and Nuggets. However, Utah has taken a step back recently by losing two of three, including favorite losses to New Orleans at home and a 10-point defeat at Memphis on Friday. The Jazz have performed well at Vivint Smart Home Arena by winning 14 of the past 17, although they are 0-3 ATS in the last three opportunities as a home favorite.

Battle for Sixth

Past the top five teams in the Eastern Conference, the two wild card teams that are flying under the radar are Detroit and Brooklyn. The two squads hook up at Barclays Center on Monday as they try to avoid the seventh playoff position, which would likely pit them against the Raptors in the opening round.

The Nets (35-33 SU, 36-32 ATS) return home for one night before hitting the road for a seven-game trip starting Wednesday at Oklahoma City. Brooklyn has bounced back since dropping three in a row as the Nets are riding a three-game winning streak following Saturday?s two-point victory at Atlanta. The Nets have cashed the UNDER in four consecutive games, although Brooklyn topped the 113-point mark in each of the past three contests.

The Pistons (34-31 SU, 33-30-2 ATS) travel to Brooklyn with no rest after blowing out the Bulls on Sunday, 131-108 to cash as nine-point favorites. Detroit moved its winning streak to five games, while the Pistons have 12 of their last 14 contests since squandering a 25-point lead in a home setback to the Clippers in early February.

Detroit and Brooklyn haven?t met since October when the two teams played a pair of games decided by four points. The home team won each time, as the Nets edged the Pistons, 120-119 in overtime on Halloween night, but Detroit cashed as 2 ?-point underdogs.

Time?s A Wastin

Washington and Sacramento are both on the outside looking in with the playoffs one month away. The Kings (33-32 SU, 38-26-1 ATS) have been the most pleasant surprise in the NBA this season and are still hanging around the Western Conference race by sitting four games back of San Antonio for the final playoff spot.

Sacramento continues its four-game Eastern Conference road trip after winning at New York on Saturday, 102-94 to pick up only its second victory in the last six contests (both against the Knicks). The schedule has been tough for the Kings lately as they have lost to the Celtics, Bucks, Clippers, and Warriors since the All-Star break.

The Wizards (27-39 SU, 31-35 ATS) are still alive in the dreadful Southeast division as Washington trails Miami by four games with 16 to go. Washington threw away a golden opportunity in Saturday?s overtime loss at Minnesota as the Wizards blew an early 15-point lead in a 135-130 setback. Washington managed its fourth consecutive cover, while beating a pair of Western Conference squads at home by beating Dallas and Minnesota.

The Kings struggled against the Wizards from 2016 through 2018 by losing four straight meetings, but Sacramento broke through in late October by rallying past Washington, 116-112 at Golden 1 Center. Sacramento outscored Washington in the fourth quarter, 37-27, while cashing outright as 5 ?-point underdogs. The task for the Kings on Monday night is to snap a five-game skid at Capital One Arena dating back to 2014.

Expect fireworks

The Kings travel to Washington to take on a Wizards team they have historically played well against in the head-to-head versus Sacramento winning five straight home games, and 16 of 23 at Capital One Arena.

With the game total set as high as 240.5 on some books, look for offensive fireworks as these are two of the league?s top-10 scoring offenses and top-five worst defenses in terms of opponent points per game. Both teams are ranked near the top of the league in pace and are efficient at capitalizing on fast break opportunities. Bet Over the total of 240.

From Downtown!

The Kings Bogdan Bogdanovic has not been shooting the ball well lately but has logged 11 games with 20 or more points this season. Today he is in a favorable matchup versus a Wizards team vulnerable to the deep ball.

Bogdanovic is shooting just over 39 percent from beyond the arc and should be able to capitalize against a Wizards? defense surrendering 123.3 points per game over their most recent three games while allowing opponents to shoot 36.9 percent from 3-point range. Back Over his points total of 14.5.

Sixth Man of the Year Candidate

The Pistons take their five-game winning streak on the road to Brooklyn to play the Nets who have won 17 of their most recent 23 games at home.

Nets guard Spencer Dinwiddie has had a huge impact all season long coming off the bench, averaging career highs in points per game and field goal percentage. His most recent two games have been his most efficient since returning from injury, logging 23 and 28 points, and averaging five rebounds and six assists per game. Look for his success to continue today and back Over his points, rebounds, assists total Over 24.5.

Hoping to sweep the series

The Thunder are looking to complete the season sweep versus the Jazz. The most recent three contests between these two has resulted in very high scoring games with both teams shooting over 47 percent from the field, with the Thunder winning all three of these contests by an average score of 125-122 (mostly due to a double overtime game in the last meeting).

The Over looks like a profitable play as both offenses come in hot with the Thunder averaging 119.7 over their last three games, and the Jazz 111.8 at home. Take Over the game total of 226.

To Live and Die in L.A.

The Celtics travel to Los Angeles to take on a Clippers team they have struggled against recently, winning three of the most recent 11 games, and only one of the last six on the road at Staples Center.

Look for the Clippers to get out to a quick start as they are averaging 59.7 first-half points at home and have shot the ball well versus the Celtics shooting 48 percent from the field over their most recent 10. Back the Clippers on the first half moneyline at a nice price.
