Inside the Paint - Wednesday
Chris David

All things usually balance out in the long run and daily followers of the NBA are starting to see that trend take place at the betting counter recently. After watching the underdogs own the first three weeks after the All-Star break, favorites have started to flex in a big week. Since Monday, the ?chalk? has gone 11-2 straight up and 9-4 against the spread and that includes last night?s results of 7-0 SU and 5-2 ATS. For total players, the ?under? still holds a slight edge (79-68) in the second-half but I expect a big night of ?over? tickets to dominate the slate in the near future.

Game of the Night (ESPN, 9:35 p.m. ET)

Golden State (45-21 SU, 26-39-1 ATS) at Houston (42-25 SU, 31-34-2 ATS)

A possible preview of the Western Conference Finals will take place on Wednesday as the Warriors will meet the Rockets from the Toyota Center. Houston will be seeking an improbable sweep of the four-game season series and by doing so, the Rockets would only be three games behind the Warriors in the latest race for the top seed in the West.

Houston has been installed as a 3 ?-point home favorite and NBA expert Tony Mejia weighed in on the fourth showdown between the pair.

He said, ?Steph Curry is calling this an opportunity to send a statement, but the fact Kevin Durant is coming off an ankle contusion means it doesn?t really mean all that much from that standpoint. The exception to that would be if Golden State were to win without him, but considering they fell apart against the lowly Suns without the reigning two-time MVP, it?s the Rockets that who are more likely to send a message in putting a little doubt in the Warriors on the heels of a stretch where they?ve gone 4-6.?

?Getting DeMarcus Cousins was always going to be taxing and he could be exposed as a liability due to his pick-and-roll defense against a team that boasts James Harden and Chris Paul, but injuries have further compounded things. Klay Thompson missed a couple of games, Draymond Green seems stuck in a place with no confidence to shoot the ball and key reserves Shaun Livingston and Kevon Looney have had their knocks. All that in addition to Durant?s unfortunate ankle tweak at home against Phoenix makes this a tough game for the Warriors and a prime opportunity for the Rockets to finish off a season sweep of the defending champs.?

As Mejia mentioned, the Warriors have gone 4-6 in their last 10 games and more importantly they?re 2-8 ATS during this span and that includes the embarrassing 115-11 loss at home to Phoenix on Sunday as 17-point home favorites. If you go back 20 games, Golden State is 6-14 ATS and its been favored in all of those games.

Catching points this season has been a rarity for Golden State but it has happened five teams and Steve Kerr?s team has gone 1-4 SU and 2-3 ATS. Kevin Durant (ankle) is ?out? Wednesday and the Warriors are 0-1 this season without him, a 103-96 decision at Orlando on Feb. 28.

While Golden State has struggled, Houston has been on fire with a 9-1 record in its last 10 games. The Rockets have gone 5-4-1 ATS during this run and the team is finally healthy. After starting the season with an 11-14 record, Mike D?Antoni and company have gone 31-11. A lot of that success has come at home with Houston going 24-9 SU and 18-14-1 ATS. That record also comes after the team started 0-4 at the Toyota Center.

From a head-to-head perspective, Mejia argues that a fully-active Rockets squad has an edge over the Warriors.

He explained, ?Paul has missed one of this year?s victories, but it?s worth noting that the Rockets have defeated Golden State five of the last six times he?s taken the court for them and are 7-3 overall with him in the lineup since he came on board last season. With Kenneth Faried back, the Rockets are the healthiest they?ve been all season and have really dominated games on the defensive end during their nine-game winning streak, giving up 106 or fewer points in five consecutive contests.?

The total on this game is hovering between 230 and 231 points. Despite the offensive firepower on both sides, this series has been a great ?under? bet with the low side cashing in eight of the last 10 meetings. They did play to a 135-134 shootout on Jan. 3 from the Bay Area and the ?over? (232) in the recent meeting at Oracle Arena on Feb. 23 had a chance to go high but the Warriors were stifled late in a 118-112 loss to the Rockets.

Including four games from last year?s Western Conference Finals, the ?under? has gone 4-1 in the last five games between the pair from Houston. The Warriors have been a better ?over? (19-13) team on the road but they?re only averaging 101 points per game in their last five visits to Houston.

Eastern Test

Two teams fighting for playoff spots in the Eastern Conference will meet on Wednesday when Detroit (34-32 SU, 33-31-2 ATS) and Miami (31-35 SU, 35-31) meet at the American Airlines Arena. This will be the final meeting between the two teams and the Pistons have gone 2-1 both SU and ATS versus the Heat and that includes a 119-96 blowout win on Feb. 23 as 3 ?-point road underdogs. For the fairly quick rematch, Miami opened as a 1 ?-point favorite and some of the adjustment can be based on form.

Even though the Pistons were embarrassed 103-75 this past Monday as two-point road underdogs, the club still owns an 8-2 SU and 7-3 ATS mark in the second-half of the season. Miami was also lit up in its last game, a 125-104 decision to Toronto as a two-point home favorite. Prior to that win, the Heat had won five of their last six games both SU and ATS with four of the victories coming at home.

The Pistons hold a three-game lead over the Heat for the seventh spot in the East so the sense or urgency should be much higher for Miami. Especially with the Bucks and Hornets visiting the American Airlines Arena later this week.

Roll the Ball Out

Meaningless matchups late in the NBA regular season happen often and I usually lean to the ?over? in those games knowing that the defense tends to be a tad looser. Wednesday?s game between Memphis and Atlanta fits perfectly and bettors are looking at a total of 221, which doesn?t seem high for Atlanta but it out of the norm for Memphis.

The Grizzlies have only had five totals listed in the 220s this season and not surprisingly, the ?under? has gone 5-0 in those games. The Memphis team we?ve seen lately has been running more and even though lack offensive consistency, point guard Mike Conley has been on a roll. Plus, the Hawks defense (118.7 PPG) is ranked last in scoring and they give up plenty of extra possessions due to turnovers, also ranked last in the league with 17.7 per game.

The pair met early in the season on Oct. 19 from Memphis and the Grizzlies notched a 131-117 win over the Hawks and the ?over? (216) was never in doubt. All signs point to another back-and-forth game in the second meeting.

Desert Heat

The Suns (16-52 SU, 31-37 ATS) have been on fire recently, going 5-2 SU and 6-1 ATS in their last seven games and that includes the largest upset of the NBA season on Sunday when the club stunned Golden State 115-111 as 17-point road underdogs. During this hot run, Phoenix has gone 3-1 at home and it?s been listed as an underdog in three of those games.

Fast forward to Wednesday and Phoenix (+7) is receiving points again to Utah (37-29 SU, 33-31-2 ATS) at home. Knowing the Jazz have dropped two straight and three of their last four games, the obvious lean would be to the underdog in this spot if you?re handicapping on current form.

However, this will be the first encounter between the pair this season and this series has been very lopsided. The Jazz have won four straight and 11 of the last 12 meetings against the Suns and they?ve gone 8-4 versus the number in those games. Also, Utah hasn?t lost three straight games since late November and it?s gone 4-2 both SU and ATS in its last six games as a road favorite.

Westbrook has triple-double, Thunder beat Nets 108-96
March 14, 2019
By The Associated Press

HOUSTON (AP) Klay Thompson scored 30 points, DeMarcus Cousins had a season-high 27 and the Golden State Warriors snapped Houston's nine-game winning streak Wednesday night with a 106-104 victory over the Rockets.

Playing without injured star Kevin Durant, the Warriors bounced back from Sunday's loss to Phoenix and avoided being swept by Houston after the Rockets won the first three meetings this season.

Golden State, which had lost six of 10 overall, is 4 1/2 games ahead of Houston atop the Western Conference standings. The Rockets are tied with Oklahoma City for third place behind Denver.

After trailing by 14 in the fourth quarter, a three-point play by Chris Paul got Houston within one with 10.8 seconds left. Stephen Curry made two free throws with eight seconds remaining to make it 106-103, and James Harden hit one of two from the line at the other end with 6.4 seconds to go. The miss on the second one bounced high off the rim and was rebounded by Andre Iguodala, securing Golden State's victory.

Harden had 29 points and 10 assists but shot just 2 of 12 on 3-pointers. Paul finished with 24 points.

Curry added 24 points for Golden State. Durant missed the game with a sprained right ankle.

THUNDER 108, NETS 96

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - Russell Westbrook scored 31 points in his 26th triple-double of the season as Oklahoma City beat Brooklyn.

Westbrook added 12 rebounds and 11 assists for the 130th triple-double of his career.

Paul George scored 25 points and Jerami Grant added 15 for the Thunder, looking to secure home-court advantage in the first round of the playoffs.

Spencer Dinwiddie had 25 points for the Nets, who won their previous four games.

HEAT 108, PISTONS 74

MIAMI (AP) - Justise Winslow scored 16 points and Miami opened the second half with a 21-0 run on the way to an easy win over Detroit.

It was the biggest spurt and largest victory margin this season for the Heat, who are trying to hang on in the Eastern Conference playoff race. Dion Waiters scored 14 points and Dwyane Wade had 11.

Blake Griffin scored 13 points for the Pistons, who have dropped consecutive games for the first time since late January.

Miami (32-35) is still No. 8 in the East, two games ahead of No. 9 Orlando and two games back of No. 7 Detroit.

Andre Drummond fouled out with 6:30 left and finished with five points and nine rebounds - snapping his run of 19 consecutive double-doubles, which left him tied with Bob Lanier for the Pistons record.

WIZARDS 100, MAGIC 90

WASHINGTON (AP) - Bradley Beal scored 23 points, Thomas Bryant had 21 points and 10 rebounds, and Washington made up a little ground in the Eastern Conference playoff race with a win over Orlando.

Jabari Parker added eight of his 19 points in the fourth quarter to help the 11th-place Wizards move within 1 1/2 games of the ninth-place Magic. Washington improved to 2-0 on its five-game homestand and remained 3+ games behind Miami for the final postseason spot.

Bryant and Parker each went 9 of 12 from the field off the bench, with Bryant's performance coming one game after he was limited to two points and a single rebound in 14 minutes.

Nikola Vucevic had 20 points and 14 rebounds for Orlando, which has lost four of five.

JAZZ 114, SUNS 97

PHOENIX (AP) - Donovan Mitchell scored 16 of his 26 points in the second half to lead Utah past Phoenix.

Derrick Favors and Rudy Gobert added 18 points apiece for the Jazz. Gobert also grabbed 20 rebounds as Utah ended a two-game skid and pulled into a tie with the Los Angeles Clippers for the seventh playoff seed in the Western Conference.

Devin Booker's 27 points led the Suns, who came back from 14 down in the third quarter to tie the score but couldn't push past the Jazz in the fourth. Kelly Oubre Jr. added 18 points for the last-place Suns, who had won four of five.

HAWKS 132, GRIZZLIES 111

ATLANTA (AP) - John Collins had 27 points and 12 rebounds, Trae Young added 22 points and Atlanta snapped Memphis' three-game winning streak.

It marked the most points that the Grizzlies, who lead the NBA in scoring defense, have allowed this season.

C.J. Miles scored a season-high 33 points and Mike Conley finished with 20 for the sluggish Grizzlies, who never had a lead.

25-1? Arizona, Oregon, Oregon St, South Dakota St, Temple

Tweet of the Day
?We didn?t sign Odell to trade him. That?s all I need to say about that.?
Giants? GM Dave Gettleman, on February 27

Which former pro tennis star played a judge in an episode of Law and Order?

Wednesday?s quiz
Wright State University is located in Dayton.

Tuesday?s quiz
ACC has the most teams, with 15 basketball-playing schools.

******************************

Thursday?s List of 13: Nobody asked me, but??

13) I?m not a New Jersey Giants? fan, I?m a Ram fan who spends way too much time handicapping sports. Not really sure what the Giants are thinking when they trade Odell Beckham but keep their 38-year old QB. They also dumped Vernon/Collins, so their defense has been depleted.

Peter King wrote that the Giants ??..are an expansion team with a 38-year old QB.?

Better hit a home run with those two draft picks they got from Cleveland. Giants have three of the first 37 picks in the draft, so there is opportunity there.

In fairness to the Giants, the last two Decembers, Beckham played one game, and caught three passes for 35 yards in that game. I?m not saying what they did was wrong, I?m just saying that what they?re doing confuses me. Why not go young at quarterback, too?

This is the first time since 1984 the Giants have two 1st-round picks in a draft. That year, they took LB Carl Banks and OL William Roberts.

12) Westgate SuperBook dropped Cleveland from 25-1 to 14-1 to win the Super Bowl; William Hill books lowered them from 25-1 to 18-1.

Giants went from 40-1 to 80-1 to win the Super Bowl, which seems a bit excessive. Maybe it is more accurate to say that 40-1 was too low to begin with.

11) Le?Veon Bell gets $52.5M, four years from the Jets. I?m curious how many of these contracts are affecting the NFL?s primetime schedule for this coming season.

Terrell Suggs played 16 years for the Ravens but is now on Arizona; that would be an interesting Monday night game.

Do the Steelers play the Jets this year?

Earl Thomas signed with the Ravens Wednesday; another potential 2019 primetime matchup.

10) No matter what, the NFL continues their amazing ability to stay in the headlines 12 months a year. After the NCAA?s, the NFL schedule will come out next month, then the draft is late next month. Always something going on.

9) Iona has won the MAAC tournament four years in a row; here is how they did in the NCAA?s the last three years:
? 2018, lost 89-67 to Duke (+20)
? 2017, lost 93-77 to Oregon (+15.5)
? 2016, lost 94-81 to Iowa State (+7.5)

Something tells me the Gaels might be heading to Dayton next week.

8) Saint Mary?s 60, Gonzaga 47? After the brackets come out Sunday night, it?ll be fun to try and figure out which team got KO?d from the tournament because Saint Mary?s won this game. Gonzaga hadn?t lost a conference tournament game since 2012.

7) William & Mary fired coach Tony Shaver Wednesday; the Tribe has never made the NCAA tournament, which is obviously a sticking point, but the last six years, W&M was 64-42 in CAA games, with all six seasons above .500 in conference play.

Last six years, Tribe was 6-6 in CAA tourney, losing in finals in both 2014, 2015- they lost to Delaware by a point in ?14. There is no guarantee the new coach will be a better coach than Shaver? JMU fired Matt Brady three years ago and is 19-35 in CAA games since then.

6) Was odd seeing Magic Johnson at the OVC tournament, watching Ja Morant play; you don?t expect to see an NBA legend courtside when you?re watching a Belmont-Murray State game. Magic was at the ACC tournament in Charlotte Wednesday.

5) NC State 59, Clemson 58? Tigers led by 18, but lost; they?re 18-13, and probably headed to the NIT. Here are some of the reasons they didn?t win 20 games:

? Nov 26, lost 68-66 to Nebraska
? Jan 26, lost 69-67 at NC State
? Feb 13, lost 65-64 at Miami
? Feb 16, lost 56-55 at Louisville
? March 2, lost 81-79 to North Carolina
? March 13, lost 59-58 to NC State

4) Ted Valentine did the Clemson-NC State noon game in Charlotte; wouldn?t have been the least bit surprised if he had showed up somewhere else on TV, reffing a night game. When was last time a ref worked two games in the same day? Has it ever happened at that level?

3) Big Sky tournament: 3-point shooting decided the first two games:
? Saacramento State 72, Northern Arizona 60? Hornets were 12-20 on the arc.
? Southern Utah 94, Idaho State 80? Thunderbirds were 11-15 on the arc.

2) West Virginia 72, Oklahoma 71? Kid on Oklahoma swished what looked like a game-tying 3-pointer at the buzzer, but his toes were on the line, so it was only a 2-point shot and the Sooners head to the bubble- their next four days will be agonizing, waiting to hear their fate Sunday.

1) Cleveland Browns were going to sign WR Breshad Perriman, but when they traded for Beckham, that ship sailed, so Perriman signed a one-year, $4M deal with Tampa Bay instead.

Inside the Paint - Thursday
Chris David

March Madness will continue to take catch most of the headlines over the next few weeks but the NBA doesn?t stop the daily grind. Favorites kept their momentum going last nigh with a 4-2 record both straight up and against the spread. Since Monday, the ?chalk? has gone 15-4 SU and 13-6 versus the number. The ?under? posted a 5-1 record last night and is 12-7 in the last three days.

We?ve got another six games on tap tonight and below is my quick handicap.

East meets West

Two tough games to handicap here as a pair of Pacific Division clubs likely to miss the postseason are catching points against two Atlantic Division and Eastern Conference contenders.

Sacramento (33-33 SU, 38-36-2 ATS) at Boston (41-27 SU, 33-33-2 ATS):
The Celtics (-8) are laying a healthy number to the Kings and the pair just met on Mar. 6 and Boston captured a 111-109 win as a two-point home favorite without the services of All-Star point guard Kyrie Irving. The first game back from a long road trip is never easy and Boston faces that spot after going 3-1 on the West Coast, which ended with a 140-115 loss to the Clippers on Monday. The Kings have been a great surprise this season but you can see that they?re clearly out of gas and key injuries have hurt the team down the stretch. In the second half, Sacramento has gone 3-6 SU and 4-4-1 ATS and two of the wins came against the lowly New York Knicks. The total (228 ?) seems a little high knowing Sacramento is on a 7-2 ?under? run and Boston?s first three games at home since the All-Star break have all gone ?under? and the offense only averaged 101 points per game in those contests.

L.A. Lakers (31-36 SU, 36-39-2 ATS) at Toronto (48-20 SU, 28-39-1 ATS):
The Lakers snapped their five-game losing skid on Tuesday with a 123-107 win over the Bulls as two-point road favorites. Expecting Los Angeles to win two straight would certainly be a reach, knowing it hasn?t done so since Jan. 17. Making a case to back Toronto after it just dropped a 126-101 loss at Cleveland on Monday as an 8 ?-point doesn?t seem like a sound decision either. The Raptors have won eight straight against the Lakers and they?ve covered seven of those wins. The pair met at the Staples Center on Nov. 4 and Toronto blasted Los Angeles 121-107 when the Lakers were at full strength. TNT will provide national coverage of this game at 8:05 p.m. ET.

Back-to-Back Spots

Three teams will be playing on no rest tonight and two of them are coming off road wins. Along with looking at their production when facing back-to-back spots, I provide some angles and trends to watch as well plus expert Tony Mejia jumps in on the non-conference matchup between OKC and Indiana.

Orlando (4-8 SU, 5-6-1 ATS, 9-3 O/U) vs. Cleveland:
The Magic have alternated losses and wins in their last four games on no rest, and the most recent setback came in a 107-93 decision at Cleveland on Mar. 3 as a six-point road favorite. They?ve been better at home in back-to-back situations, going 3-2 SU and 2-2-1 ATS. Orlando is losing its grip on the playoff chase, losers in four of its last five and that includes a 100-90 loss at Washington last night. I thought the line was short (Magic -7 ?) and certainly would back the squad that?s spiraling out of control plus the Cavaliers have gone 7-3 ATS in the second-half.

Oklahoma City (6-4 SU, 4-6 ATS, 3-6-1 O/U) at Indiana:
The Thunder have only played two road games on no rest and it?s gone 1-1 in those games, which includes a Mar. 8 loss at the L.A. Clippers, 118-110. Oklahoma City rallied past Brooklyn 108-96 last night as a seven-point home favorite and they trailed that game by 10 at halftime. Mejia weighed in on their quick trip to Indiana, and focuses on a former Pacers All-Star.

?Paul George returning to Indiana as a visiting player is still a big deal even though he?s now done it once before, but I?m more interested in how he shoots it rather than how much he?s booed. He got off to a slow start in Wednesday?s win over Brooklyn and was icing his left shoulder after feeling the effects of the right shoulder soreness that led to a 3-game absence, leading to a shooting slump that had seen him shoot less than 30 percent over his previous four games. George finally found a rhythm and hit a flurry of 3-pointers to help swing the game in the Thunder?s favor and finished 9-for-18 from the field, finishing with 25 points in a 108-96 over the Nets. George shot 3-for-14 in his return to Banker?s Life Fieldhouse last season but still contributed to OKC?s 100-95 with his defense and the attention he commands. He could be in a similar situation here on the second night of a back-to-back if soreness develops. The ?under? has prevailed in eight of the last 10 games involving the Thunder,? said Mejia.

Utah (6-5 SU, 5-6 ATS, 7-4 O/U) vs. Minnesota:
The Jazz have won two straight and four of their last five contests played on no rest and that includes a 2-1 record at Salt Lake City, both coming against non-playoff teams in the Bulls and Mavericks. Similar to OKC, the Jazz had a strong finish last night and defeated Phoenix 114-97 as an 8 ?-point road favorite. The Timberwolves have gone 2-6 ATS in their last eight games and the defense has been an absolute mess on the road recently. Minnesota is allowing 128 PPG in its last seven road and that?s led to a 1-6 record. Not surprisingly, the ?over? has gone 6-1 in those games. The Jazz are 2-1 both SU and ATS this season versus the T-Wolves and they scored 125 in both of their victories.

Late-Night in Denver

Dallas (27-40 SU, 37-29-1 ATS) and Denver (44-22 SU, 36-30 ATS) will wrap up Thursday?s action in a nationally televised game on TNT at 10:35 p.m. ET.

?Luka Doncic is trying to play through a knee sprain and has a number of other ailments affecting him, including a slight case of the yips at the free-throw line given his performance against the Spurs. Considering playing in Denver is never easy and the Slovenian rookie star shot just 5-for-15 in a 126-118 loss in his first performance there back on Dec. 18, the Mavericks may give the night off or limit his minutes since they don?t play again until Saturday. Not having Doncic around to play offensive catalyst would significantly impact Dallas? ability to challenge a Nuggets team that is taking full advantage of finally being at full strength. Although they?ve lost at the Spurs and Warriors this month, the Northwest Division leaders have beaten the Lakers and Timberwolves by a combined 42 points in their last two wins,? added Mejia.

Denver has been a beast at home (28-6 SU, 23-11 ATS) this season and it?s laying a big price tonight as an 11-point favorite. While Dallas has been competitive at home, especially for bettors, they?ve been hit or miss on the road (6-27 SU, 16-17 ATS).

The Nuggets have won and covered both meetings against Dallas this season, which includes a 126-118 win on Dec. 18 as a 4 ?-point home favorite. Including that result, the Mavericks have dropped five straight games (2-3 ATS) at the Pepsi Center but only one of the losses came by more than 11 points.

Denver snapped an 8-0 ?under? run on Tuesday in its 133-107 win over Minnesota as the ?over? connected (227) late. The Dallas offense (100.8 PPG) hasn?t been great lately and that production has led to a 5-2 ?under? run in its last seven games. Tonight?s total is hovering around 220 points.

Irving has triple-double, C's top Kings
March 14, 2019
By The Associated Press

BOSTON (AP) Kyrie Irving had 31 points, 12 assists and 10 rebounds and the Boston Celtics overcame a 17-point first-half deficit to beat the Sacramento Kings 126-120 on Thursday night.

It was Irving's second career triple-double. His first was with Cleveland on Feb. 28, 2014, against Utah.

Jaylen Brown added 22 points, and Marcus Morris had with 21 points and 13 rebounds.

It was Boston's second victory over Sacramento in eight days, and the Celtics' fourth win in five games overall.

Buddy Hield led Sacramento with 34 points. The Kings lost for the 11th straight time in Boston.

RAPTORS 111, LAKERS 98

TORONTO (AP) - Kawhi Leonard scored 25 points, Norman Powell had 20 and Toronto beat Los Angeles.

LeBron James scored 29 points and Alex Caruso had a career-high 16 for Los Angeles. The struggling Lakers lost for the sixth time in seven games, further denting their fading playoff hopes.

Pascal Siakam scored 16 points and Marc Gasol added 15 to help Toronto win its ninth consecutive meeting with the Lakers, extending a franchise record. The Raptors also set a franchise record with their 20th victory of the season against a Western Conference opponent.

NUGGETS 100, MAVERICKS 99

DENVER (AP) - Nikola Jokic hit a falling one-handed shot as time expired to lift Denver over weary Dallas.

Jokic rescued Denver after the Nuggets trailed by 12 early in the fourth quarter. He finished with 11 points, 14 rebounds and eight assists, hitting all four of his field goals in the fourth.

Luka Doncic led Dallas with 24 points. He had a go-ahead dunk with 5.8 seconds left, but Jokic topped it by leaning to his right and letting a shot go before the buzzer.

Paul Millsap finished with a season-high 33 points for the Nuggets (45-22), who strengthened their hold on the No. 2 spot in the Western Conference.

Jalen Brunson had 20 points and Tim Hardaway Jr. scored 17 for the well-traveled Mavericks.

PACERS 108, TUNDER 106

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Wesley Matthews tipped in a basket with 1.8 seconds left and Indiana overcame an 18-point deficit to beat Oklahoma City.

Domantas Sabonis scored 26 points against his former team, and the Pacers won their second straight by erasing the Thunder's lead in the final 15 minutes. Indiana's magic number for clinching a playoff spot is one.

Paul George led the Thunder with 36 points in his second trip back to Indianapolis since a blockbuster trade in July 2017. Russell Westbrook added 19 points, 14 rebounds and 11 assists, but missed a 3-pointer at the buzzer.

JAZZ 120, TIMBERWOLVES 100

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Donovan Mitchell scored 24 points, Jae Crowder had 18 and Utah beat travel-weary Minnesota.

Derrick Favors added 17 points and 11 rebounds for the Jazz.

Karl-Anthony Towns had 26 points for Minnesota. The Timberwolves didn't arrive in Salt Lake City until Thursday morning due to a snowstorm in Denver.

MAGIC 120, CAVALIERS 91

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) - Aaron Gordon scored 21 points, D.J. Augustin added 20 points and seven assists and Orlando routed Cleveland.

Nikola Vucevic had 19 points and 11 rebounds for the Magic. They won for only the second time in six games while chasing the final Eastern Conference playoff spot. Collin Sexton scored 23 points for Cleveland.

Armadillo: Friday's List of 13: Wrapping up a busy basketball day??

Recapping the busiest basketball day of the year:
13) Noon-2pm:
? Virginia 76, NC State 56? Going to be a long 72 hours for the Wolfpack.
? Ohio State 79, Indiana 75? Hopefully this pops the Hoosiers? bubble; they tied for 8th in a 14-team league, then lost their first conference tourney game- take a hike.
? Villanova 73, Providence 62? Wildcats are 12-1 in last 13 Big East tourney games.

12) 2-4pm:
? Florida State 65, Virginia Tech 63, OT? Seminoles hit a 3-ball with 0:04 left to force OT, then hit a difficult, leaning shot on the baseline with 0:01.8 left for the win.
? Xavier 63, Creighton 61? Musketeers won seven of their last eight games.
? Nebraska 69, Maryland 61? Terps are 6-9 in last 15 games after a 7-1 start in Big 14.

11) 4-6pm:
? Nevada 77, Boise State 69? Wolf Pack takes lot of bad shots for a good team.
? Auburn 81, Missouri 71? Tigers move on to play South Carolina next.
? Washington 78, USC 75? Tough week for Trojans, on and off the court.

10) 6-8pm:
? Marquette 86, St John?s 54? Golden Eagles avenge couple of losses during regular season.
? Cal-Fullerton 75, Cal-Davis 71 OT? Titans outscored Davis 23-4 on foul line.
? Alabama 62, Ole Miss 57? Crimson Tide was down 14 at the half; held Ole Miss to 19 points in second half.

9) 8-10pm
? West Virginia 79, Texas Tech 74? #10-seed is in Big X semis for first time since 1998.
? Minnesota 77, Penn State 72 OT? Nittany Lions led by 8 with 4:57 left.
? Southern Miss 82, Marshall 73? Golden Eagles won nine of their last 11 games.

8) 10pm-midnight
? Utah State 91, New Mexico 83? Aggies survived 24 turnovers; game was tied at half.
? Arizona State 83, UCLA 72? Bruins? coaching search will be very interesting.
? Seton Hall 73, Georgetown 57? This game was 53-28 at the half; Pirates won last three games, beating Villanova/Marquette last week- they play Marquette again tonight.

7) Upsets of the Day:
? West Virginia (+13) 79, Texas Tech 74
? Southern Utah (+7.5) 83, Northern Colorado 64
? Northern Illinois (+6.5) 80, Toledo 76
? Nebraska (+5.5) 69, Maryland 61

6) Wow, the announcers on the Big 14 Network are incredible shills; every game is great, every kid is wonderful, never is heard a discouraging word.

Near the end of the Penn State-Minnesota game, couple kids start jawing at each other, and one of Penn State?s subs walks off the bench to join the fray. He winds up getting tossed out of the game for it, but the TV analyst is defending the kid. Seriously.

5) Marquette?s Markus Howard scored 30 points against St John?s Thursday; it was his 6th career game against the Johnnies. In the first five games:
? He was 5-34 inside the arc.
? He was 12-31 on the arc
? He scored a total of 55 points (11 ppg) in those games.
? This game was a whole lot better.

4) Washington State fired basketball coach Ernie Kent Thursday. Here is the record of the last few Cougar basketball coaches:
? 1999-2003: Paul Graham 31-79
? 2003-06: Dick Bennett 36-49
? 2006-09: Tony Bennett 69-33
? 2009-14: Ken Bone 80-86
? 2014-19: Ernie Kent 58-98

If that doesn?t prove that Tony Bennett is a great freakin? coach, not sure what does.

3) Bowling Green 99, Ball State 86? This game was 54-51 at the half; you don?t see that much, a game where both teams have 50+ at halftime.

2) San Diego State 63, UNLV 55? Since 2006, Aztecs are 8-0 vs UNLV in the Mountain West tournament; seeing how the tournament is almost always in Las Vegas, thats quite a streak.

1) Utah State-Fresno State figures to be a very good game in the Mountain West semi-finals tonight; teams split a pair of one-point decisions this season, with road team winning both of them.
