Inside the Paint - Friday
March 15, 2019
By Chris David

The ?Favorite Express? kept chugging along last night with a perfect 6-0 straight up record but a few underdogs saved face and earned a 3-3 mark against the spread. Since Monday, the ?chalk? has gone 21-4 SU and 16-9 ATS (64%). During this span, total bettors have watched the ?under? go 17-8 (68%) and that includes a 10-2 (83%) mark the past two days.

Friday?s card has eight games on tap and with the help from NBA expert and contributor Tony Mejia, let?s handicap the slate.

(Straight Up ? SU, Against the Spread ? ATS)

Game of the Night (NBATV, 8:05 p.m. ET)

Milwaukee (51-17 SU, 40-26-2 ATS) at Miami (32-35 SU, 36-31 ATS)

If the NBA Playoffs began today, this matchup would be the 1-8 series in the Eastern Conference and the Bucks would be very heavy favorites even though the Heat are often given respect for their pedigree.

For this game, Milwaukee opened as a six-point favorite and the number is sitting at -5 as of this morning. Mejia weighed in on the only nationally televised game on Friday.

?We?ll see if taking in the local delicacies has any effect on the East?s top team since they?ve had some time to be exposed to the ?South Beach flu,? but Mike Budenholzer is expected to have a full roster in place since George Hill is coming back after missing a few games with a groin strain. Considering this is a playoff preview of the East?s most likely 1-8 matchup, the Bucks could show off how locked in they are here, especially since the Heat have really struggled at home, coming into this one 16-19 at American Airlines Arena. Milwaukee will host Miami on March 22, so they can really dig in and get to know their potential first-round matchup over the next week since both teams are back at relatively full strength,? said Mejia.

?The Bucks lost in South Florida 94-87 when these teams played on Dec. 22 and Giannis Antetokounmpo has really struggled the Heat defense. ?Greek Freak? has missed 14 of his 21 field-goal attempts (33 percent) while averaging just 10.5 points through two games against the Heat, by far his lowest-scoring output against any team. With Justise Winslow, Josh Richardson and Bam Adebayo now in the starting lineup together in a mix that has really worked well for Miami, Antetokounmpo will see a number of capable defenders who can make him work. Even with Dwyane Wade questionable with elbow soreness, this is a great chance for the Heat to prove to themselves that they can hang with the top seed if they?re to square off in a series in a month?s time.?

As Mejia mentioned, Milwaukee lost its last trip to South Florida and that?s been a common them for the club. Including that setback, it has dropped five straight games at American Airlines Arena with the last win coming in the 2016 regular season. The Bucks have been held under 100 points in all of those defeats and that?s led to an easy 4-1 ?under? mark. However, the Bucks showed their muscle in this series recently by blasting the Heat 124-86 on Jan. 15 as 8 ?-point home favorites. Prior to that victory, Miami had captured six straight between the pair.

As a home underdog this season, Miami has gone 6-4 SU and 7-3 ATS. The ?under? started 5-1 in those games but the last four have gone ?over? the number. The total on this game opened 221 and the early money pushed it down to 219 ?. Mejia explained his handicap on the move, ?With both teams likely to supply an honest effort on defense in order to send a message and keep negative plays off film that?s likely to be exhaustively reviewed, the ?under? is an interesting potential play. At 220, the total opened at a larger number than oddsmakers placed on the first two meetings, which were in the 215-218 range. Both easily remained below the posted number."

Out of Gas?

Detroit (34-33 SU, 33-32-2 ATS) came out of the All-Star break clicking on all cylinders, going 8-1 SU and 7-2 ATS. After that hot start, the Pistons have come back to earth with back-to-back losses and the offense was held to 74 and 75 points. The Los Angeles Lakers (31-37 SU, 26-40-2 ATS) visit Detroit tonight as heavy ?dogs (+11) with a short-handed squad and they?re playing on no rest, which seems like a ?get right? game for the Pistons.

Mejia provided his thoughts on the non-conference matchup. ?With LeBron James possibly sitting out, it will be interesting to see what the Lakers look like on the road after being completely overwhelmed with their best player on the floor for most of a 14-point fourth quarter. The Pistons come off an embarrassing loss in Miami and would normally be in bounce-back spot here but point guard Reggie Jackson turned his ankle late in the blowout loss and may require additional time before he can return. Blake Griffin struggled in Detroit?s 113-100 loss at Staples on Jan. 13, while Kyle Kuzma scored 41 points in one of the L.A.?s best performances without James. Before you get too excited about a potential trend, Brandon Ingram and Lonzo Ball started and combined for 15 points, 14 boards and 17 assists in that game prior to their season-ending injuries and Ivica Zubac and Michael Beasley combined for 30 points off the bench. Zubac is now with the Clippers. Beasley now plays in China. Griffin is in a 5-for-19 slump over the Pistons? current losing streak, so you may want to stay away from this rematch altogether given all the variables in play,? said Mejia.

Injuries aside, the home team has won four straight games in this series, which includes the 113-100 win by Los Angeles from the Staples Center on Jan. 9 as a 1 ?-point home favorite mentioned by Mejia. The Pistons have won and covered their last three home encounters against the Lakers and the ?over? is 3-0 in those games with Detroit averaging 114.6 PPG.

Also noted above, the Pistons may not have point guard Reggie Jackson (ankle) available for this game. He?s listed as ?questionable? and so is the Lakers? Josh Hart (knee), Lance Stephenson (toe) and Tyson Chandler (neck).

The Lakers are 6-4 overall this season on no rest but they limp into this game with losses in three of their last four back-to-back spots. Total bettors should note that the ?under? is an eye-opening 8-1-1 in those contests for Los Angeles.

Heavy Home Chalk

Along with the Pistons, we have four other teams laying nine points or more tonight and it could be hard to make a case for any underdogs pulling off the outright upsets.

Philadelphia (-9) vs. Sacramento: Of the heavy ?dogs listed on Friday, the Kings will likely get the most attention. Sacramento has won three straight and five of its last six encounters against Philadelphia, which includes a 115-108 win on Feb. 2 as a three-point home ?dog. The Kings are coming off a tough 126-120 loss at Boston last night in a game they led most of the way. The reason you might stay away from Sacramento comes to down to situations and the club is 1-7 SU and 0-8 ATS in its last eight games on no rest. Philadelphia has won two straight since All-Star Joel Embiid returned after missing the first eight gmes of the second-half and another win seems likely here. Total bettors should note that the 76ers are on an 8-0 ?under? run coming into this game.

Houston (-13) vs. Phoenix: The Suns have been decent for bettors (6-3 ATS) in the second-half but they finally had that clunker on Wednesday when they collapsed at home in a 114-97 loss. The Rockets have gone 6-1 SU and 5-2 ATS when listed as double-digit favorites this season and they?re coming off a humbling loss to Golden State on Wednesday. A bounce back win seems fitting but the Rockets have failed to cover big numbers in their last three wins over the Suns.

San Antonio (-13 ?) vs. New York: This is a revenge game for the Spurs, who were embarrassed by the Knicks 130-118 as nine-point road favorites on Feb. 24 from Madison Square Garden. San Antonio has only been a double-digit home favorite three times this season and it?s gone 3-0 SU and 1-2 ATS. New York has gone 1-7 SU and 3-5 ATS since beating San Antonio and the offense has been held under 100 points in its last four games, which has led to a 4-0 ?under? mark.

L.A. Clippers (-9) vs. Chicago: Seems like a high line for Los Angeles but it deserves the respect this season and it has had its way with Chicago, winning six straight games (4-2) in this series and that includes a 106-101 win at the Bulls on Jan. 25. Chicago enters this game in poor form too, going 1-5 both SU and ATS in its last six and that includes a run of three straight losses. L.A. was humbled at home by Portland on Tuesday and it hasn?t dropped back-to-back games since late January. The Clippers have gone 3-1 SU and 2-2 ATS when listed as a home favorite of nine points or more this season.

NBA Game Preview - Milwaukee Bucks at Miami Heat

If the playoffs started today, the top-seeded Milwaukee Bucks would face off with the No. 8 seed Miami Heat in the first round of the Eastern Conference postseason. The teams will play this week in a possible preview of that playoff showdown. Miami is at home, which could give it a chance to win this game, but Milwaukee is the vastly superior team and should still be favored.

The Bucks are three games ahead of the Raptors for the No. 1 seed in the East. Milwaukee has great odds of clinching not only that but also the best record in the NBA. Miami is the front-runner to claim the No. 8 seed but cannot relax because there are several teams on its tail.

This is a critical clash for the Heat, which would love to pull off the upset in NBA wagering.

This NBA basketball game between the Milwaukee Bucks and Miami Heat will be held at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, Ontario, Canada at 8 p.m. ET on Friday, March 15th, 2019. The game will be nationally televised on NBA TV.

We'll have NBA basketball odds at BookMaker.eu available for every game of the 2019 NBA season.

Odds Analysis

The Bucks have a record of 51-17 on the season, which is several games better than anyone else in the league. Milwaukee has won seven of its past 10 games and has been the model of consistency this year, rarely losing back-to-back games. The Bucks are an impressive 24-12 on the road this year, and will look to keep that up in this one.

Miami is 32-35 on the season. The Heat is two games ahead of the Magic and Hornets for the final postseason berth in the East. Miami has not been that good at home this year with a 16-16 mark and would really benefit from a win in this one in NBA odds.

Injury Report

Both teams are fairly healthy, but it seems like Milwaukee will likely be without point guard George Hill in this one. He is battling a groin injury that has kept him out for a significant stretch. George isn?t the most important player on the team but he is a nice complementary piece off the bench.

Hill is averaging 7.1 points, 2.4 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game. He is shooting 44.3 percent from the floor and 32.3 percent from three-point range. The Bucks aren?t going to be affected by his absence in this one, but they hope to be of full health when the playoffs come around because making it to the NBA Finals is a legitimate aspiration and it would be nice to have all hands on deck.

Player To Watch

Goran Dragic -- The Miami point guard is a talented player, but he has missed a big chunk of this season due to a knee injury. Dragic has returned to play the last three games, and while his minutes have been limited, it?s still been a welcome return.

Miami needs everyone on its roster to play well in order to knock off the Bucks, and Dragic is talented enough to have a big game. He is averaging 14.7 points and 4.1 assists per game on the year. In three games since returning to the floor, Dragic is averaging 10.7 points and 2.7 assists in about 19 minutes per game.

Miami may choose to keep him on the court longer in this one if Dragic is playing well, as he has been playing long enough to feel better about the knee.

Free NBA ATS Picks

The Heat gets this one at home and has the bigger ramifications from the result, so it will certainly play hard. However, the Bucks are just too talented and deep. Milwaukee is getting close to wrapping up the No. 1 seed in the East, and once it does that, the Bucks can rest a bit and get ready for what they hope to be a deep postseason run.

Look for Milwaukee to grab control of this game by early in the second half and hold off any run Miami might threaten with. The Bucks are the pick to not only win this game but also cover the spread in NBA gambling.

NBA ATS Pick: Milwaukee Bucks 112, Miami Heat 103

NBA Game Preview - Golden State Warriors at Oklahoma City Thunder

The Golden State Warriors broke out of a mini-funk last time out, beating the Rockets on the road even without Kevin Durant. It was a good reminder to a potential contender that the Warriors are still the top dog, and they will aim to flex that muscle once again against another foe that is aiming to knock them off the throne. The Warriors have another tough road game next time out when they travel to face off against the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Oklahoma City boasts a superstar duo in Russell Westbrook and Paul George, although Golden State still has the deeper and more well-rounded team. The home court advantage is a big plus for the Thunder in this one, which could make the oddsmakers set the spread quite small in NBA betting lines.

This NBA basketball game between the Golden State Warriors and Oklahoma City Thunder will be held at Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Canada at 8:30 p.m. ET on Saturday, March 16th, 2019. The game will be nationally televised on ABC.

We'll have NBA basketball odds at BookMaker.eu available for every game of the 2019 NBA season.

Odds Analysis

The Warriors have a record of 46-21 on the season. While the season has not gone as smoothly as expected, the team is still in first place in the Western Conference heading down the stretch. The two-point win over the Rockets last time out was critical to keep Golden State ahead of the hard-charging Nuggets. The Warriors are 22-11 on the road this season so they will be confident in the ability to come away with the victory here.

The Thunder has a mark of 42-27 overall, which is tied with the Rockets for third place in the West. Oklahoma City is just 4-6 in its past 10 games and blew a big lead to the Pacers last time out. The Thunder has gone 23-9 at home this year and will not be intimidated by the Warriors in NBA wagering.

Injury Report

Durant recently suffered an ankle injury that kept him out against Houston. Coach Steve Kerr said he expects Durant to return to the court sometime in the next few games, although that statement doesn?t seem to bode well for his availability in this one. There is no doubt Durant would love to play against his former team, but it may not happen.

If he is sidelined, it?s a monumental loss. Durant is averaging 27.4 points, 6.7 rebounds and 5.7 assists per game this season, shooting 51.3 percent from the field and 35.9 percent from three-point range. Few teams could adequately absorb the absence of a superstar like this, but the Warriors showed they could win without him against the Rockets.

Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson and DeMarcus Cousins are good enough offensively to pick up the slack once again if needed.

Player To Watch

Russell Westbrook -- The Thunder?s athletic point guard is almost guaranteed to get a triple-double in this game because he basically does it every other time out. However, the big key will be how efficiently he shoots the ball from the field. Oklahoma City will get some nice scoring numbers out of Paul George, but Westbrook has to be that second option.

He is connecting on only 43 percent of his shots from the floor and 28.9 percent of his three-point attempts. Westbrook has been better than that of late, hitting 51.2 percent of his shots and shooting 46.2 percent from downtown over his past five games. If he can keep that up, the Thunder has a great shot at winning.

Free NBA ATS Picks

The Warriors picked up one impressive road win this week but the second attempt will fall short. The absence of Durant will be too much to overcome in this one, as Oklahoma City is going to play at a feverish pace knowing what kind of statement it would be to get a win.

Westbrook is going to be the best player on a court full of superstars to help his team to the victory. If the Thunder is a slight underdog, take it on the moneyline. If it is the slight favorite, take Oklahoma City against the spread in NBA odds.

NBA ATS Pick: Oklahoma City Thunder 116, Golden State Warriors 112

Bulls at Clippers ATS Picks

The Los Angeles Clippers are favored at home on Friday night, as they host the Chicago Bulls in a game that can be seen on NBA TV. The Bulls come into this game having lost three straight but they are optimistic that Zach LaVine will return to the lineup after missing the last two games.

On the other side, the Clippers are battling with San Antonio and Utah for the 6th spot in the Western Conference. Let?s look at Friday?s game and NBA picks.

Chicago Bulls at Los Angeles Clippers
Date and Time: Friday, March 15, 2019, 10:30 p.m. ET
Location: Staples Center, Los Angeles, CA
NBA Odds at BetDSI: Clippers -9, O/U 228.5
Bulls at Clippers TV Coverage: NBA TV

The Bulls have not played well in their last three games, but part of the problem was that LaVine missed two of the three games. Chicago head coach Jim Boylen said that there is a good chance LaVine will play on Friday. LaVine went through a full practice on Wednesday, while Otto Porter Jr. didn?t practice due to a knee contusion. "We thought he was going to be limited and he felt good and got through the whole practice," Boylen said to the media about LaVine. "And we had contact today. Spent a lot of time on the defensive end of the floor, kind of filling our buckets there."

Boylen is also optimistic that Porter Jr. will play. "We'll see how Otto does tomorrow. But we're hoping to have both those guys for the start of the trip and see how it goes."

The Bulls are a much different team with LaVine in the lineup. He is averaging 23.8 points, 4.6 rebounds and 4.4 assists per game. Some people would prefer that the Bulls just shut down LaVine for the season since he is such an important player but that does not appear to be happening.

Boylen said he was not happy with his team?s performance in the last couple of games. "I talk about it. I told them this morning I'm not happy with our defense and our edge," Boylen said on Wednesday to the media, "You can't exhale in this league. We had a big home win against Philadelphia and then we've had some 20-point leads and I think we exhale sometimes. You can't do that.?

Chicago is 17-16-1 ATS on the road, with 17 games going over, 16 going under, with one push. They are averaging 105 points per game and giving up about 113 per contest.

The Clippers had their five-game winning streak come to an end with a thud on Tuesday at home, as they were blown out by Portland. The Clippers were without Danilo Gallinari and they missed his presence. It was the second game of a back-to-back and Gallinari was rested. He will be in the lineup on Friday night.

The Clippers are 19-14 ATS at home, with 20 games going over, 12 going under, with one push. They are averaging just over 114 points per game and giving up about 113 per contest.

Key Stats

The Clippers have dominated this series, winning 8 of the last 10 meetings, including the last six. It has also been a low scoring series, with eight of the last ten going under. The Clippers have won five of the last six at home in this series, with three of the last four going under.

Bulls at Clippers Free Picks

The Bulls had been playing pretty well until LaVine got hurt, but he is expected back on Friday night. There is no question that with LaVine and Porter both in the lineup that the Bulls can be competitive. The Clippers are coming off a bad loss to the Trail Blazers and you would expect them to bounce back, but I don?t think it will be easy.

I will take the points with the Bulls. I know the series trends point to a low scoring game, but the Clippers have been a good team to bet over the total at home. I will also play the over at BetDSI.

Bulls at Clippers ATS Pick: Bulls +9 and Over 228.5
Bulls at Clippers Score Prediction: Clippers 118, Bulls 114

Bucks come from 20 down at halftime to beat Heat 113-98
March 15, 2019
By The Associated Press

MIAMI (AP) Giannis Antetokounmpo scored 33 points, and the Milwaukee Bucks rallied from a 20-point halftime deficit to beat the Miami Heat 113-98 on Friday night.

Antetokounmpo also had 16 rebounds and nine assists for the Bucks, who became the first team in NBA history to trail by at least 20 points at the half and win by more than 11. Khris Middleton scored 21 and Eric Bledsoe had 17 for the NBA-best Bucks, who improved to 52-17.

Milwaukee outscored Miami 71-36 in the second half.

Justise Winslow had all of his 20 points in the first half for Miami, which had its lead over Orlando and Charlotte for the No. 8 spot in the Eastern Conference trimmed to just one game.

ROCKETS 108, SUNS 102

HOUSTON (AP) - James Harden had 41 points, 11 assists and nine rebounds, and Houston outlasted Phoenix.

The Rockets had trouble putting away the Suns, who have won just 16 games this season, and trailed for much of the night as they struggled from long-range, making just 11 of 40 3-pointers.

It's Houston's franchise-record 10th straight win over the Suns, and the Rockets have won 10 of their last 11 games overall.

Devin Booker had 29 points for the Suns, who lost their second in a row.

TRAIL BLAZERS 122, PELICANS 110

NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Damian Lillard scored 24 points and became the second-leading scorer in Trail Blazers history as Portland beat New Orleans.

Lillard passed LaMarcus Aldridge (12,562) on the team's list, giving him 12,584 and leaving only Clyde Drexler ahead of him with 18,040.

C.J. McCollum added 23 points, and Enes Kanter and Rodney Hood each had 17 points for the Trail Blazers, who improved to 8-3 since the All-Star break. Zach Collins scored 12 points and Jusuf Nurkic had 11 points and 12 rebounds as Portland handed New Orleans its fifth consecutive loss despite impressive performances by a couple of Pelicans.

New Orleans' Julius Randle had a career-high 45 points and 11 rebounds.

HORNETS 116, WIZARDS 110

WASHINGTON (AP) - Kemba Walker scored 28 points and Charlotte beat Washington in a matchup of teams chasing the final Eastern Conference playoff berth.

Jeremy Lamb added 18 points and eight rebounds, and Nicolas Batum and Tony Parker had 16 points apiece for Charlotte, which defeated Washington for the second time in eight days.

Bradley Beal, who had 15 points in a loss at Charlotte last Friday, had 23 by halftime Friday night and finished with 40 points on 15-of-29 shooting.

76ERS 123, KINGS 114

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Joel Embiid had 21 points and 17 rebounds and made some big plays on both ends of the court late in the fourth quarter, Jimmy Butler scored 22 points and Philadelphia beat Sacramento.

Tobias Harris and JJ Redick each added 19 points and Ben Simmons contributed 18 for the 76ers, who won their third in a row to pull even with idle Indiana for the No. 3 seed in the Eastern Conference. Philadelphia holds the tiebreaker with the Pacers and is trying to maintain hold of home court in a first-round playoff series, something coach Brett Brown said he coveted before the contest. Fifth-seeded Boston is two games behind the 76ers and Pacers.

Harrison Barnes and De'Aaron Fox had 16 points apiece for Sacramento, which lost its third in a row and seventh in the last nine to further hurt its playoff push.

SPURS 109, KNICKS 83

SAN ANTONIO (AP) - LaMarcus Aldridge had 18 points and 11 rebounds, and San Antonio beat New York to extend its season-best winning streak to seven games.

DeMar DeRozan and Bryn Forbes each had 13 points for San Antonio, whose previous season high was five straight victories.

New York, which was without injured point guard Dennis Smith Jr., lost its eighth straight.

PISTONS 111, LAKERS 97

DETROIT (AP) - Andre Drummond had 19 points and 23 rebounds, and Detroit took advantage of LeBron James' absence, beating Los Angeles.

The Lakers, who have fallen well off the pace in the Western Conference playoff race, have been managing James' minutes, and he sat out this game entirely. Los Angeles played at Toronto the previous night.

The Lakers were also without Lonzo Ball (left ankle), Tyson Chandler (neck), Brandon Ingram (right arm) and Lance Stephenson (toe).

CLIPPERS 128, BULLS 121

Saturday?s 6-pack

? Dolphins traded QB Ryan Tannehill to Tennessee, so they?re obviously trading for a QB, probably either Josh Rosen or a draft pick to take Kyler Murray.

? New Jersey Giants are going to sign WR Golden Tate, helping fill a big hole.

? Browns? RB Kareem Hunt got suspended eight games by the NFL.

? Raiders will now play the 2019 season in Oakland.

? Nationals? OF Michael Taylor is out for while with a sprained knee, hip.

? Utah Jazz G Dante Exum partially tore the patellar tendon in his right knee, is sidelined indefinitely.

Tweet of the Day
?The fact that he wanted to throw me out in a spring training game is pretty ridiculous. He?s known for overreaction a little bit.?
Astros? manager AJ Hinch, after Angel Hernandez threw him out of a spring training game

Saturday?s List of 13: Wrapping up a frenetic Friday?..

13) Duke 74, North Carolina 73? Tar Heels were 4-27 on the arc, and lost by a point.

12) Seton Hall 81, Marquette 79? Three players were ejected after a pushing/shoving thing early in second half. Seton Hall player also got a technical with 1:58 left; for the game, Pirates were 26-44 on foul line, Marquette 29-41. Tough game to officiate; very physical.

Markus Howard was shooting 90.7% on the foul line before this game; he was 18-24 here, and was 1-15 from the floor.

All in all, seven players either fouled out or were ejected.

11) Southern Miss basketball coach Doc Sadler coaches in sweats, which is a good thing, just a much different thing than most college coaches. I?m sitting on my couch Friday watching his team play, having lunch I bought at Wendy?s and I?m dressed better than he is, and I don?t dress well. Go figure.

10) Memphis 79, UCF 55? Its good to play the conference tournament on your home court. Tigers host top-seeded Houston today. Bubble teams are rooting for Houston.

9) Former NFL QB JP Losman is 38 now and is an assistant coach at Clemson; he threw the ball so well at the school?s Pro Day, throwing to WR?s/DB?s, that an NFL team asked Losman if he was interested in coming back to the NFL. Losman hasn?t played in the league since 2011- he declined.

8) Rhode Island 75, VCU 70? #1-seed goes down in the A-14; VCU?s best player Marcus Evans got hurt while VCU had a decent lead in the first half- they went in the dumper after that.

7) There was a clip on Twitter Friday of Rockies? 3B Nolan Arenado shooting hoops outside Colorado?s spring training facility, and his teammates react when he makes a couple of 3-pointers in a row, but the unusual thing is, Arenado shoots the ball left-handed. He plays baseball right-handed.

6) One of my favorite NBA players to watch is Montrezl Harrell of the Clippers; he works so hard, gives great effort. In four years in the NBA, he?s worked his way up from 3.6 ppg three years ago to 16.2 ppg this year. Not the most skilled player, but he works his butt off, and lot of time, great effort means more than skill.

Another player like that is Steven Adams of the Thunder; its fun to watch guys play hard.

5) Detroit Tigers met with Players? Union reps this week, but they insisted on having the meeting outside on a ballfield, instead of in the clubhouse. Players are apparently concerned that their clubhouse would be bugged for the meeting. Not a lot of trust for the front office there.

4) In case you were wondering (you weren?t), Jerry Blevins had 20 appearances LY where he faced only one batter, most in the major leagues. MLB-wide, only seven relievers had 15+ one-batter appearances.

3) Winner of the Home Run Derby gets $1 million now? No pressure on the guy who is throwing the pitches. Hopefully the pitcher will get at least 10% of the winner?s share.

2) Coaching carousel:
? George Washington fired coach Maurice Joseph.
? Appalachian State fired coach Jim Fox.
? Texas A&M fired Billy Kennedy; he was in Sweet 16 two years ago.
? UNLV fired Marvin Menzies; he really didn?t get a fair shake there. He inherited two players his first year, and this year, his 3rd year, their best player got hurt and didn?t play.

1) I respect the job ESPN?s Joe Lunardi does with Bracketology, but I try not to look at it that often, because he isn?t the committee. We?ll find out the brackets Sunday night. Until then, just need to sort out all the teams that are earning their way into the tournament.

Saturday's Tip Sheet
Kevin Rogers

Game of the Night: Warriors at Thunder ? 8:30 PM EST

There is no shortage of intrigue when these two Western Conference rivals get together. Golden State (46-21 SU, 27-39-1 ATS) has split the first two meetings with Oklahoma City (42-27 SU, 36-33 ATS) at Oracle Arena, while the two teams are even at 3-3 in six matchups since the start of the 2017-18 season.

Obviously, the storyline when these teams hook up is Kevin Durant facing his former team, but the Warriors? All-Star is back in Oklahoma City for the first time since last April when Golden State left Chesapeake Energy Arena with a 111-107 victory. Fast-forward to this season where the Warriors hoisted another championship banner in the opener and held off the Thunder, 108-100 as 12 ?-point favorites. OKC played without Durant?s frenemy Russell Westbrook, who sat out the first two games of the season following offseason knee surgery.

The Thunder grabbed revenge in the next matchup in Oakland on November 21 in a 123-95 blowout of the two-time defending champions. Golden State was without its star Stephen Curry, as OKC jumped out to a 14-point halftime lead and outscored the Warriors, 36-16 in the fourth quarter. Westbrook struggled from the floor (5-for-15), but compiled a triple-double, while Dennis Schroder provided a huge spark off the bench with 32 points.

Golden State continues a tough four-game road swing against Western Conference foes as the Warriors avoided a season sweep by beating Houston on Wednesday, 106-104 as four-point underdogs. The Warriors have alternated wins and losses in the past six games, while managing the victory with Durant sidelined. The duo of Curry and Klay Thompson combined to score 54 points, while DeMarcus Cousins posted 27 points as the trio was the only three Warriors to register double-figure scoring.

Oklahoma City squandered an 18-point lead in Thursday?s 108-106 defeat at Indiana. Paul George torched his former team for 36 points, but the Thunder was limited to 18 points in the fourth quarter to fall to 2-6 in the past eight road contests. OKC has seen the UNDER in cash in four consecutive games, while not topping the 110-point mark during this stretch.

Both these Western powers have struggled to cover numbers recently as the Warriors own a 4-13 ATS record in the past 17 games, while the Thunder have compiled a 3-10 ATS mark the last 13 contests.

Blazers at Spurs ? 8:35 PM EST

Portland (41-26 SU, 38-29 ATS)
concludes a difficult three-game road trip on Saturday looking for a perfect 3-0 mark. After pulling away from the Clippers on Tuesday in a 21-point rout at Staples Center, the Blazers outscored the Pelicans on Friday, 66-53 in the second half of a 122-110 triumph. Portland grabbed the cover as hefty nine-point favorites, while receiving 47 points from the backcourt duo of C.J. McCollum and Damian Lillard.

The toughest task for the Blazers will be to knock off the Spurs (39-29 SU, 37-30-1 ATS), who have lost only seven times in 33 tries at AT&T Center. San Antonio will also be playing with no rest after routing New York, 109-83 to avenge a road defeat to the Knicks last month. The Spurs rebounded nicely from the disastrous Rodeo Trip which saw them go 1-7 as San Antonio has run off seven straight victories.

This is the final regular season meeting between these Western squads as the home team has captured the first three contests. The OVER cashed all three times as the Blazers won the most recent matchup at the Moda Center, 127-118 last month. San Antonio dropped 131 points on Portland in the past hookup at AT&T Center in December, led by DeMar DeRozan?s 36 points, while LaMarcus Aldridge added 29 points.

Pacers at Nuggets ? 9:05 PM EST

No team will endure a tougher eight-game stretch this season than Indiana (44-25 SU, 35-34 ATS) is currently in the midst of. The Pacers rallied to shock the Thunder on Thursday, 108-106 on a tip-in by Wesley Matthews in the final seconds to improve to 27-9 at Bankers Life Fieldhouse. Now, Indiana starts a four-game road trip that begins in Denver, followed by a back-to-back set against the Blazers and Clippers, then closes out at Golden State. In case you?re wondering, the next three games after this brutal trip are against the Nuggets at home and visits to Oklahoma City and Boston.

The Nuggets (45-22 SU, 36-31 ATS) bounced back from a 17-point defeat at Golden State to knock off Minnesota and Dallas at home. Although they failed to cover as 11 ?-point favorites on Thursday, the Nuggets still managed their 29th home win of the season on a Nikola Jokic buzzer-beater to edge the Mavericks, 100-99. The Nuggets remain one game behind the Warriors for the top seed in the Western Conference and home-court advantage throughout the first three rounds.

Denver is riding an incredible 9-1 UNDER run since the All-Star break, including five UNDERS at Pepsi Center. The Pacers have dropped eight consecutive visits to Pepsi Center since 2009, but each of the past three losses in Denver have come by three points each. Indiana will be looking to snap a four-game road skid, while suffering double-digits defeats most recently at Milwaukee and Philadelphia.

Nets at Jazz ? 9:05 PM EST

Both these squads enter Saturday?s action as the seventh seed in their respective conferences with less than a month remaining in the regular season. Brooklyn (36-34 SU, 37-33 ATS) saw its four-game winning streak come to an abrupt halt on Wednesday at Oklahoma City in a 108-96 setback. The Nets built a 10-point halftime lead, but were outscored, 66-44 in the second half as Brooklyn failed to cash seven-point underdogs.

The Jazz (39-29 SU, 35-31-2 ATS) are on their way to their fourth consecutive season with at least 40 wins, as Utah hasn?t reached this milestone since 2007-10. Utah cruised past Minnesota on Friday, 120-100 to cash as nine-point home favorites, led by Donovan Mitchell?s 24 points. The Jazz have won nine of 12 home games against Eastern Conference foes, including eight of the past 10 games overall against teams from the East.

Utah won at Barclays Center in late November, 101-91 as 3 ?-point favorites to grab its fourth win in the past five matchups. The Nets have cashed in six of their last nine games in the role of a road underdog, while riding a six-game UNDER streak in the past six games overall.

Saturday's Tip Sheet
March 16, 2019
By Kevin Rogers

8:35 PM EST

Portland (41-26 SU, 38-29 ATS) concludes a difficult three-game road trip on Saturday looking for a perfect 3-0 mark.

Spurs' win streak at 8; Blazers lose McCollum to leg injury
March 16, 2019
By The Associated Press

SAN ANTONIO (AP) DeMar DeRozan scored 21 points and the San Antonio Spurs extended their winning streak to eight games with a 108-103 victory Saturday night over the Portland Trail Blazers, who lost C.J. McCollum to a left leg injury.

Damian Lillard scored 34 points for Portland, which had won three straight.

McCollum exited under assistance with 7:03 remaining in the third quarter. He remained on the court for a few minutes clutching his left leg in great pain after tumbling out of bounds when his driving layup was blocked by Jakob Poeltl. McCollum appeared to roll his left ankle but was clutching his shin. There was no word on his status.

WARRIORS 110, THUNDER 88

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - Stephen Curry scored 33 points to help Golden State roll past Oklahoma City and clinch a playoff berth.

Klay Thompson scored 23 points and DeMarcus Cousins added 12 points, eight rebounds and six assists for the Warriors, who played without Kevin Durant for a second straight game because of a sprained right ankle.

Paul George had 29 points and 13 rebounds, and Dennis Schroder added 15 points for the Thunder. Russell Westbrook scored just seven points on 2-for-16 shooting and missed all seven of his 3-point attempts. He had nine assists and eight rebounds.

SUNS 138, PELICANS 136

NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Josh Jackson hit a tying 3-pointer with 2 seconds left in overtime, the Pelicans were assessed a technical foul when they called a timeout they didn't have and Devin Booker hit the free throw to give Phoenix the lead for good.

Booker finished with 40 points to go with 13 assists, and Jackson, who had 19 points, scored the game's final point on a free throw after he was fouled on an inbound pass with less than a second on the clock.

Elfrid Payton had 16 points, 16 assists and 13 rebounds in his fourth straight triple-double - all coming in the midst of New Orleans' six-game losing streak.

MAVERICKS 121, CAVALIERS 116

DALLAS (AP) -Tim Hardaway Jr. scored 22 points, Dirk Nowitzki closed within three points of Wilt Chamberlain on the NBA scoring list and Dallas ended a seven-game losing streak.

Nowitzki got hot early in the fourth quarter and finished with 14 points to bring him to the cusp of Chamberlain for sixth place on the career scoring list. He has another home game on Monday before the team leaves on a three-game road trip.

With leading scorer Luka Doncic out with a right knee contusion, Hardaway led a balanced Dallas attack with seven Mavs scoring in double figures.

Collin Sexton scored 28 for the Cavaliers, the rookie's fifth straight game above 20. Kevin Love and Cedi Osman each had 22 for Cleveland, which has lost three in a row.

NUGGETS 102, PACERS 100

DENVER (AP) - Paul Millsap hit a left-handed layup with 7 seconds remaining, Nikola Jokic scored 26 points before being ejected in the fourth quarter for arguing and Denver moved to the verge of its first playoff spot since 2012-13.

The magic number for the Nuggets dropped to one as they remained in the No. 2 spot behind Golden State. Denver ran its home record to a Western Conference-leading 30-6.

Millsap finished with 15 points and 13 rebounds for Denver, which overcame an 18-point, first-half deficit.

Thaddeus Young led Indiana with 18 points and 10 boards.

JAZZ 114, NETS 98

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Donovan Mitchell scored 24 points, Rudy Gobert added 23 points and 17 rebounds, and Utah beat Brooklyn.

Derrick Favors had 13 points and 12 rebounds for the Jazz. Jae Crowder and Ricky Rubio added 12 points apiece as Utah won its third straight game, holding Brooklyn to 35 percent shooting and finishing with a 65-44 advantage on rebounds.

Spencer Dinwiddie scored 22 points and D'Angelo Russell added 20 for Brooklyn. The Nets dropped their second in a row after winning four straight.

CELTICS 129, HAWKS 120

BOSTON (AP) - Kyrie Irving just missed his second straight triple-double with 30 points, 11 rebounds and nine assists, Jaylen Brown scored 23 points with a key 3-pointer and Boston held off Atlanta after blowing a 25-point, second-half lead.
